Emma had gone to the Grill for lunch that day. With her mother at work, and her own cooking skills putting their house at risk of burning doing, getting some fries from the local hang-out spot seemed like the best option for everyone. And while she'd finished her food long ago, Emma found herself unable to leave. The show was just too good to miss out on.

"Well if it isn't the ballsy wacko." The greeting made Emma give a small eye roll as her eyes peeled away from the scene of Klaus delivering the newest threat to Elena and Damon. Instead, she looked to Tony who approached her table from the bar, a smile on his face as he invited himself to sit down with her.

"Well if it isn't the rude hybrid." She retorted back, making him send her a pointed look.

"As I said, ballsy wacko." He stated, his point only proven by her teasing words. Emma shook her head at him with an amused smile as he continued. "So what brings you here? Hiding away as you pretend to write something?" He asked, nodding towards the pen she held in her hand while not actually writing anything on the blank page of a notebook in front of her.

"Oh, no special reason. Just enjoying the invisibility being human provides you with in this town." Emma said with what could only be described as a proud smirk. Tony arched an eyebrow in a questioning manner prompting the brunette to elaborate. "Everyone around here is worried about supernatural hearing, no one even bothers to think about a human not being deaf."

"Ah, so you're spying." Tony summed it up into simpler terms, and Emma shamelessly nodded her head. When she first walked into the Grill, she really didn't expect for everyone to just go on about their private conversations, but soon enough she suspected they really didn't expect her to listen in. And so she did.

"Exactly. So far, I know Bonnie's having weird dreams, Elena is done with Stefan, Damon is day drunk, although you don't have to hear that, you can just see it, and Jeremy failed his midterm and got fired." Emma shared, finding all the information just a tad bit meaningless in the whole grand scheme of things. "And Klaus seems pissed off, still. Is that his permanent setting?" She added on as she turned her head to see Klaus and Damon getting in each other's faces.

"It is, but today's special. Stefan stole the coffins." Tony whispered, Emma turning back to him with wide eyes as she heard the words. "Yeah, I'd be a bit less ballsy today if I were you." He added warningly.

"Well, fuck. So he got his freedom and used it to screw Klaus over. Figures." She shook her head in annoyance.

"Something he'll soon come to regret. I assure you." Klaus suddenly walked over to the table, his little throwdown with Damon and Elena obviously over. "Enjoying the show, love?"

"A little. Probably would have been better if it yielded results." Emma said honestly, taking the last sip of her soda as she ignored Tony pace palming once he heard her speak. So much for his warning...

"It would seem Elena and her friends are less forthcoming for the big bad villain in their fairy tale." Klaus' voice seeped with sarcasm as he took a seat. Emma sent him an unimpressed look.

"Exactly. You're the villain, so be the villain. Give them more than 'I'm broadening the scope' as an incentive." Emma suggested, her imitation of Klaus' accent sounding almost like a crime to humanity. Of course, Emma was sure he already had ideas of his own. Whether he was trying to take a pacifist route (for the first time in his life probably) or just building up to something, it still needed to be said so he'd get on with it.

"And what would you suggest?" Klaus questioned, sounding as if he were actually interested in what she'd do in his shoes. Emma doubted he was, but nonetheless she answered. With Klaus she was never sure what was a test and what wasn't. Best be honest with it all.

"Put someone Elena cares about in danger. Don't kill someone right away, just make it seem like you would." Emma said with a shrug of her shoulders as if it were the most normal thing to talk about. Noting Klaus' silence, she realized he wanted her to go on. "Damon with his pathological puppy love will do anything to keep her happy and safe, including helping you find Stefan. Considering they are claiming to be done with him, I think it won't be too hard to get them to turn. All the while, Elena will tell you what she knows to protect whoever you put in danger."

"And what makes you think Elena knows anything?" Klaus questioned. He, of course, was aware of the fact that Elena knew something and was continuing to hide it from him. What he wanted to know was how Emma was so sure of it.

"Because she panicked." Yes, during her little 007 act, Emma overhead things, but she wasn't stupid enough to only use her ears while watching the show.

"Everyone panics around him. Except you. I'm losing adjectives for that." Tony commented, making both Klaus and Emma turn to him with unimpressed looks.

"Maybe read a book or two, Tony." Emma mocked, the quip making Tony laugh while even Klaus couldn't keep the smirk off his face before she turned back to him. "And sure, there's panic when you're just around, but then there's Elena when you mentioned Rebekah. She knows something, something she doesn't want to share with you."

"Nothing gets past you, love, does it?" Klaus truly was intrigued by Emma. Were she a vampire or werewolf he believed she would make for quite a good soldier. Even as a human she was proving she had a mind that served her well. She only lacked the strength.

"I spent my whole life on the outside looking in, watching people; how they act and behave, what makes them tick, what they try to hide. So, no, nothing gets past me." Emma explained before adding on. "Including the fact that you let me say all of this, even though you already had a plan of your own. So may I ask why?"

"Just trying to see if you have as much potential as you let on love." Klaus said vaguely. Emma couldn't help but roll her eyes as she started to pack her notebook and pen back in their bag.

"And did I pass the test?" She asked. Of course, it was a test. Emma was starting to suspect every question he'd ever ask her would be some kind of test. He was paranoid enough."

"For now." Klaus nodded his head, his words being the only form of approval Emma thought she'd get.

"How did I know you'd say that? Maybe you should read a book too, Klaus." Emma smiled his way innocently as she jumped out of her seat. "I'm sad to bring this to an end, truly, but while you all parade around town with your fangs, I'm gonna go be in the safety of my own home and do my homework."

"And then you suddenly become so boring." Tony shook his head in disappointment and Emma sent him an annoyed glare. In less than seven months she'd be graduating, possibly going to college somewhere far away from Mystic Falls. She thought it best to keep that option open. And hope she doesn't die until then.

"I'll see you later, boys. Have fun on your little adventure."

Emma moved around the kitchen as she pulled a bowl out of the cupboards, preparing herself to take the popcorn out of the microwave as she and her mother got all of their food ready to watch a movie that night. Her movements ceased as she felt her phone vibrating in her back pocket.

Pulling it out, her brow furrowed as she read over the unknown number flashing across her screen. However, she'd never been one of those people who ignores calls from unknown numbers. Changing addresses as frequently as she did, makes one accustomed to lacking some numbers in her contacts list.

"Hello?" Emma answered the phone, sending her mother a brief smile before focusing on the voice on the other end of the line as it spoke up.

"I thought you might be dying to know that our plan went well, love." It wasn't hard for Emma to recognize the accented voice as it reached her ears. Her brows furrowed in slight surprise. She definitely didn't remember giving Klaus her number at any point.

"First, I'm not sure I even want to know how you managed to get my number. Secondly, our plan?" She questioned, curious to know why he titled it that.

"Come on, I'm trying to be nice, to give you some credit." Emma could practically hear the smirk in his voice and was able to visualize it even if she wasn't speaking with the hybrid face to face.

"You and nice, sounds like an oxymoron." Emma poked, a small laugh escaping her before she turned serious again as she asked her next question. "And it yielded the results you wanted?" She chose her words carefully, eyes shortly turning to her mother as the woman flipped through the movie options, searching for something they could watch.

"Partly. Not all is in place just yet." Klaus said mysteriously. A part of Emma wanted to ask what exactly that meant, but her mother's questioning voice calling out to her, asking if she was coming, told Emma now was neither the time to ask nor could she be certain Klaus would even answer.

"Well at least it's a step in the right direction." Emma said optimistically. Whatever kind of victory he had over Elena and her group; it was a victory. That should matter for something, right? "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have plans with my mother. I'm sure you don't need me for whatever you're planning now."

"I'll call you if I do." Klaus said, his voice coming off a certain way that made it clear to Emma he wasn't asking if she'd help should he need it.

"And I'll come running." Emma still made sure to say it before hanging up the call and finally finishing getting the popcorn before she joined her mother.

"Who was that? I can't tell if you like them or not?" Marissa asked in a slight teasing tone, making Emma chuckle in amusement as she herself wasn't sure what the answer to that would be. Certainly not the truth though.

"Just a partner for a school project." Emma said simply before stealing the remote from Marissa's hands and taking control over the movie choice for the night. "What should we watch? Romantic comedy? Horror? Something supernatural?" Emma questioned, acting completely innocent as she threw in a small trap in there.

"Oh you know how much I hate the last option." Marissa frowned in displeasure at the thought of watching something about vampires, werewolves and similar creatures. Of course, Emma knew that.

"Yeah, I do." She muttered; her eyes peeled to the screen. But as she thought about it, Emma couldn't help but wonder why. She couldn't stop herself from wondering how much her mother truly knew. And so a plan began to form, a plan that would help her get the answers to the questions roaming around her head. It might take a bit of time, and some calculated steps, but Emma was determined to find out the truth about her family sooner or later.
