《Fire and Ice》Chapter 33: Snitches

The following morning Rosalie was quick to kidnap Renesmee and take her outside. Of course Emmett tasted me and Paul about what they could hear coming from our room that night but it was way more funny teasing Edward and Bella when they finally rejoined us.
"Wow, done already?" He teased.
I laughed, "Damn Edward, not even Paul is that fast." Emmet started dying of laughter and Paul looked at me shocked before giving him a noogie to shut up.
"Where's Renesmee?" Bella asked covering her mouth from laughing.
Jacob stood by the window watching them whilst eating a sandwich, "Blondie stole her," he answered bitterly.
"Did ya break a lot of stuff?" Emmett asked.
"Emmett," Bella eyed him before shaking her head unamused, "No," she whispered. The phone ringing ruined our mood, we knew who it was without even looking at the caller ID, "Charlie?" Bella guessed.
"He's been calling twice a day," Edward told her.
Jacob nodded, "He's in pretty rough shape."
"I don't think we can put it off much longer," I agreed.
"Eventually we'll have to tell him you didn't make it," Carlisle reminded her.
"He needs to mourn, Bella," Edward told her, we all agreed.
She nodded, "Okay. We'll do it tomorrow."
Emmett sighed, "I'm gonna miss this place."
"We'll come back, we always do," Carlisle breathed.
Jake looked around at us confused, "No one said anything about leaving!"
I sighed, "If Bella's supposed to be dead, we can't exactly have people see her walking around town."
"So you just...dissappear?"
"Jacob we don't have another choice," Edward explained.
Jake looked over at me and Paul who looked at the ground sadly, "What about you two?"
We exchanged glances, "I'm not staying behind again Jake."
"And I'm not letting her leave me," Paul determined.
I saw the wheels turning in Jake's head. Lord only knows what he was going to do then.
~
Ever seen the movie Fight Club? Well the number one rule is don't talk about fight club. The same rule applies to the supernatural. You aren't supposed to expose your species to humans. Yet, that's the very thing Jacob did. He really drove over to Charlie's and phased in front of him, exposing not only himself but the whole pack.
"I solved a problem! You were leaving!" He defended when he showed up again.
"You have no idea the danger you've put him in," Bella told him, "The Volturi will kill anyone who knows about us!"
Jake shook his head, "I didn't tell him about you. Just me. I only said you were different."
"And we have a niece who we adopted," Edward finished.
I groaned, Paul shook his head disapprovingly "You not only exposed yourself, but me and the whole pack!"
"Seriously Jake he's not just gonna let that go," Bella snapped.
Edward looked between me and his wife, "Did you consider the physical pain he'll put Bella through? It'll be like sticking a hot branding iron down her throat."

I put my hand up, "Well I'm not that extreme but it's still annoying."
"Look, Charlie's been in hell," He looked at Bella with his doe eyes, "And I know you'll be much happier with him in your life."
Edward was having none of it, "Jacob don't pretend you're doing this for anyone but yourself."
"I'm sorry you feel that way...because he'll be here in ten minutes."
"What?" Bella and I snapped.
Immediately we gave Bella a crash course in how to act human. She needed it more than I did. They gave her some brown contacts and I laughed when she squirmed.
"I know right," I agreed, "Imagine how I felt when we first met."
"These will irritate your eyes at first," Alice told her as she put the other one on.
"The main thing is not to move too fast," Carlisle educated.
Esme smiled, "Try taking a seat, and crossing your legs," Bella got to her feet and zoomed to the chair in the corner, her force pushing the chair more than humanly possible, she uncomfortably crossed her leg, "Maybe a tad slower," she recommended.
"And blink at least three times a minute," Bella started blinking like someone who's drank too much coffee, "Good," Alice lied.
"For a looney toon character," Paul smirked causing Jacob to chuckle.
"Hold your breath. It'll help with the thirst," Carlisle recommended.
I joined in, "But it still has to look like your breathing," we demonstrated.
"And don't sit so straight," Rosalie added, "Humans don't do that."
Bella tried to follow our instructions but it seemed that forcing yourself to be flawed was deeming a challenge for her, "I got it," she assured, "Move around, blink, slouch."
We heard the car pull in, "Showtime," I joked. When Carlisle led Charlie up the stairs he saw me and Paul standing with Jacob to greet him, he looked at us terrified now that he was aware of what we were.
"Bella," he greeted.
Her voice was like a whisper, "Hi Dad," it was like she was scared he'd notice just based on her voice and not the fact that she was as pale as a sheet now.
"Are you okay?" He asked, his voice cracking with concern.
She smiled, "Never better. I'm as healthy as a horse."
Charlie looked back at us wolf-folk before awkwardly asking, "You don't turn into an animal too, do you?"
The three of us laughed, I bumped Charlie with my elbow, "Nah, she's not that cool."
"Let's give them some privacy," Edward suggested, ushering us out of the room to let them talk alone.
Once we'd left the room Paul and I zeroed in on Jacob, "Don't think you're off the hook for outing us to Charlie."
He chuckled, "C'mon, you know you'd miss me if you had to leave."
Paul shook his head, "Oh more than anything, dear Alpha."

A few minutes later Jasper and Emmett joined us, without a word they grabbed my arm and dragged me after them, "What's going on?" I huffed as Paul followed confused.
"Arm wrestling," Emmett whispered as we stood at the doorway watching Charlie pull away in his cruiser.
"Nice job Bella," Jasper praised, "I've never seen a newborn show that kind of restraint... except Cate here," I smiled.
Emmett smirked, "I'm not sure she is a newborn. She's so...tame," Bella scowled easily annoyed now we've noticed.
"Emmett, don't antagonize her. She's the strongest one in the house," Edward told him.
Emmett and I took offense to that, "Oh really?" I raised my eyebrow.
"Please," Emmett scoffed cracking his knuckles.
We all gathered in the backyard, Emmett grabbing a boulder and setting it between him and Bella. I laughed as he squared off against Bella.
"Don't hurt yourself Emmett," Edward teased, but our brother simply smirked as they grabbed hands and proceeded to arm-wrestle.
The confidence quickly melted away on his face as he strained against Bella's newborn strength. We all knew Bella was gonna win, and when she did she broke off some of the boulder. She was beaming with pride and started boasting a bit, everyone encouraged her but it was my turn. That was when I took a few steps forward, my arms crossed. Her smiled faltered.
"Me next," I smirked.
"You're on."
We squared off gripping each other's hand as Jasper counted us off. She was strong, no doubt about that. I could feel her putting effort into it. But I was stronger. I let her squirm for a bit, her face furrowed in concentration as she realized I was harder to beat than Emmett. Playfully I yawned before finally lowering my hand onto her side winning the game.
She frowned, but I patted her back, "You're good though. Definitely the strongest vampire in the house." I emphasized.
"Thanks Cate," she smiled, and we both laughed knowing it was all in good fun. Bella looked behind me in curiosity. Turning I saw the ray of sunlight. We all let her pass and bask in the warmth. She admired her new sparkles which I was glad didn't pass on to me when I turned.
~
Things finally seemed to calm down, Sam had ceased the hostility with the Cullens and Jacob. He welcomed me back with open arms. Being able to hang with Quill and Embry again was so much fun. Their teasing about my relationship was annoying but I missed those guys.
The Volturi caught wind of Bella's transformation and sent a gift for her, cause that's not creepy at all. Thankfully we were still able to hide my transformation from them, knowing that would only bring more conflict.
As Bella said, it seemed time was our only enemy. Renesmee was going at an abnormally fast rate. She looked like a five year old and it hadn't even been a few months yet. The winter snow was light and fluffy as it fell.
Bella and I chatted with Jake who was in his wolf form while Renesmee caught snowflakes, "Look!" She gushed when she'd caught on in her hand.
"It's beautiful!" Bella praised.
I took her free hand happily, "Let's go catch more, yeah?" I suggested. She nodded and the two of us ran and jumped a good twenty feet in the air to catch some more. My head snapped in the direction of the mountains when I smelled it. Then I saw Irina watching us with hurt and disapproval in her eyes.
Protectively I grabbed Renesmee and we sped back to Bella, "Who was that?" Nessie asked.
"It was Irina," I whispered, "She's family," I stated but the look on her face was not a happy one.
Nessie clutched Jacob frightened. Bella called her over to us but instead Irina sped off. I didn't like that, and I'm pretty sure my jumping at an abnormally high altitude was not something she should've seen.
Bella and I exchanged glances before speeding after her, We made it to the edge of a cliff only to see ripples in the water below, "We gotta go back," I grabbed her and ran back to get Jake and Nessie.
"Tanya convinced Irina to come reconcile with us," Carlisle explained when we got home.
Edward sat at the piano with Nessie, Bella standing by their side, while I had my head in my hands Paul rubbing my back trying to soothe me.
"Seeing Jacob and Cate must have been too much for her," Esme wondered.
Bella looked at me sadly, "We could've spoken to her."
"She's family," Carlisle smiled reassuringly, "She'll come around."
Edward, trying to ease the tension started playing the piano with his daughter, for someone so young she caught on quickly, she eventually took over playing completely on her own. I lifted my head and smiled. It was a beautiful song...until Alice came in and ruined the moment. She was holding a vase of flowers but froze, dropping them and the glass shattered on the floor. Immediately we all snapped to look at her, I never saw her more terrified.
Jasper put down his book and sped to her side, "What is it Alice?"
"The Volturi," she looked over at us, "They're coming for us. Aro, Caius, Marcus, the Guard...and Irina."
I felt myself getting anxious, my leg shaking, "Why?" Carlisle wondered.
"What did Irina see in the woods?" Edward asked us.
"W-we were just walking," I stuttered replaying the whole time we were outside in my head.
"Ness was catching snowflakes with Cate."
Looking through our minds Edward understood, "Irina found out Cate's a hybrid...." when he saw me and Nessie jumping, "And she thinks Renesmee is an Immortal Child."
