《Fire and Ice》Chapter 28: Hitched

The morning of the wedding was pretty hectic. Alice had everyone running around doing last minute chores while she and I got Bella groomed and ready.

"What did I say about beauty sleep?" Alice teased as I started covering up the circles under her eyes from exhaustion.

Bella shook her head, "Sorry, bad dream."

"Oh no! You're not going to go through with it? Can I still eat the cake?" I smirked as I kept working.

"Haha, so funny Cate," she told me, "It was wedding jitters."

At that, Rosalie walking in. Graceful as ever, she smiled, "Need some help? I could do her hair," she offered.

Bella looked genuinely surprised, "Really?"

"Please," she gave a light smile before walking over and fiddling with Bella's hair, looking at her through the mirror, "I'm not offended by your choice of groom."

"Just my blatant lack of respect for mortality."

I snorted as I put away the concealer, "Wow you're so smart."

Alice looked so pleased, "Weddings, they bring everyone together!" She beamed hugging Rosalie who sent me a side eye which only made me hold in more laughter as I put a subtle pink lipstick to her lips.

Just as her hair and makeup were done we heard Renée and Charlie talking in the hall, "Alice? Bella?" Renée called out.

"In here Mom!" Bella responded.

Renée came in and the moment she saw her daughter her eyes teared up, "You look so beautiful! Crap my mascara!" She gushed. Alice swiftly handed her a handkerchief, "Charlie get in here!"

"You sure?" He asked wearily, "I don't wanna-"

"No one's naked Charlie. You're fine!" I reassured.

He peeked his head in and Bella stood up impressed when she saw him in his suit, "I know. I look hot."

In his hand was a black velvet box, "We thought you needed something blue," Renée explained.

"And something old, besides your mother," Charlie finished as he opened it and showed us a beautiful hair clip with blue sapphires on it, "It was grandma Swans."

She thanked her parents and passed the clip to Rose who put it in her hair, Renée started gushing again, "It's your first family heirloom. You can pass it on to your daughter, and her daughter..."

There was a brief silence that was sad for those who knew there would never be any daughters or children in general for any of us. Wanting to break the tension I walked over to my station, "Now time for your something borrowed!" I smiled reaching into the drawer where I kept the arm band. It was the same one that I was given on my birthday by Alice and Jasper, as I passed it to Bella I reminded her, "Remember, I want this back!" I said as I handed it to her.

Bella immediately enveloped me in a hug, "Thank you so much Cate."

"Anything for my new sister."

Alice went over to the rack and pulled out two hangers, "Dress time!" She bid.

Bella's color scheme was a light lavender with white. However Alice told me with my olive complexion, the dress color wouldn't look right so she got me a sweetheart dress in more of a royal purple color. It stood out against the light purple of my siblings, but after seeing Bella's dress I knew no one would be watching me.

In the end the venue was immaculate, everything was very earthy and natural. We made everything by hand which wasn't hard considering we could bend everything like clay. The chairs, the pews, the arch were all made using branches with beautiful flowers decorating the backyard.

"Cate!" I whipped around and saw the familiar platinum blonde hair.

"Kate!" I smiled as she ran into my arms, "It's been a while huh?"

Tanya approached, "It has been," she agreed.

The two of them embraced me warmly. Carmen and Eleazar joined and we all caught up, "Where's Irina?" I wondered looking around.

Kate looked toward the corner, where no one else stood. Irina was watching me with a murderous look, she sighed before looking back at me, "She and Laurent were...close."

My eyes widened, "Oh...And now she's mad at me?"

"Well it's not as if you personally-" I gave her a side eye, "You did?" I nodded, "Well, ever since she found out, she's been holding a grudge against your whole species."

I sighed, "Of course," I hadn't told them about my recent change.

Carmen wrapped her arm around me, "Well we don't blame you cariña. But it might be best to keep your distance."

"Let's just hope no more wolves show their faces tonight," Kate muttered.

I looked over at them, "a few members of my pack are coming tonight."

Eleazar, "Well we will try our best to make sure she doesn't make a fool of herself."

A few minutes later we all started getting into our seats for the ceremony to begin. I sat in the front next to Carlisle and Esme, looking to the back and saw Billy rolling in with Seth, Sue, and Paul. Paul send me a wink and I felt myself blushing. Turning back I realized Jacob wasn't among them.

Once Edward made it to the alter we all got to our feet as the light music started for Bella's entrance. Watching her walk down with Charlie I felt an overwhelming sense of pride. She looked beautiful and the smile on my brother's face was priceless. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here on this glorious day to witness the union of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan," the ceremony went on and what felt like a blink of an eye we had made it to the vows.

During that time, the looks in their eyes were that of utter love and devotion. Watching them exchange their everlasting promises I couldn't help turning to catch a glimpse of Paul. He was already looking at me, a knowing smile on his face. For that moment I pictured the two of us on that alter, with the promise of forever.

I was brought out of my thoughts when the applause erupted as the newlyweds kissed, making them officially husband and wife. I quickly joined in and we all stood beaming up at them.

We quickly moved everyone to the reception area where we had light music playing from the band and everyone who ate actual food was stuffing their faces.

I was just finished introducing myself to some of Bella's extended family when Paul snuck up behind me, kissing my neck sweetly. I excused myself and he led me over to Billy and Seth who wanted to go congratulate Bella and Edward.

"I'm happy for you!" He praised beaming like the child he was.

They thanked him as Billy gave them a guarded smile, "I hope you'll be happy Bella."

"Thank you, Billy," she smiled respectfully, she leaned forward cautiously, "Have you heard from him?"

He frowned, "I'm sure Jake wishes you the best."

Edward, who was trying hard to make this a happy night turned to us, "Guess now we're just waiting on you, huh little sister?"

I laughed as Paul smiled down at me, clearly felling more comfortable now that we were side by side, "Guess it's just a matter of when," I shrugged.

Charlie joined us, fixing his cufflinks, "Well I plan on getting drunk," we all laughed, "They're serving up some pretty fancy champagne. Sue, would you care to join me?" He offered and I beamed. They would make the cutest couple!

Billy, however seemed to not like that idea as he practically rolled his chair over Charlie's foot insisting on sparkling water and rolling off with them leaving me and Paul with the newlyweds.

"Bella!" Carmen greeted as she kissed Bella on both cheeks.

Eleazar congratulated Edward while Bella officially introduced herself.

I smiled at them as Kate and Tanya joined, "These people are the best," I praised as Kate hugged me, pulling me slightly away from Paul much to his distaste.

Irina somewhat reluctantly joined, giving Paul, Seth, and me the dirtiest look, she walked over to her sisters and whispered, "I can't do this."

"You promised!" Carmen hissed.

"But she's here, and she invited more!"

Edward looked at me sadly as he read Irina's thoughts, "Cate's our family too. And they're our friends."

"They killed Laurent!" She snapped.

I stepped forward, "I killed him. To stop him from killing Bella. He wasn't clean."

She looked at me with a deadly glint in her eye, "I don't believe you. He wanted to be like us. To live in peace with humans," she looked like she was going to cry, "With me," a protective grunt came from Paul as he tried to pull me closer to him. She sent him a glare before simply walking away. Tanya apologized to us and Eleazar congratulated Bella and Edward once again before leaving us.

"Well what's a wedding without some family drama?" Edward joked.

I watched Irina's retreating figure sadly, she hated my kind and now she hated me. Edward looked at me sadly just as Emmett walked on stage to start the toasts.

"I'll come get you after," Paul whispered, kissing my temple before joining Seth at their table.

I sat with my family at our table as my idiot brother kicked off the speeches;

"I'd like to propose a toast! To my new sister! Bella, I hope you've gotten enough sleep these past eighteen years, cause you won't be getting any more for a while!" He laughed. I snorted at his clearly inappropriate joke. His speech was full of them and it cracked everyone up, except for Charlie who didn't stop chugging his champagne the whole time.

After Emmett was actually Jessica. I don't know who's idea it was to let her go but it was hilarious watching her be so passive aggressive, "Well Bella was just like everybody else, totally mesmerized by Edward. Or 'The Hair' as I call him. And then, suddenly, Edward is all about Bella! Even though she's not the...captain of the volleyball team," she laughed, "I'm just kidding- or the president of the student council."

"Edward will be a good husband," Charlie stated factually as he took the mic, "And I know this because I'm a cop. I know things. Like how to hunt somebody to the ends of the Earth. And I know how to use a gun," his attempt at intimidation was just comical to everyone but I knew he was being completely serious.

Alice was more than excited to start her speech, "Now that you're my sister, you'll have to get over your aversion to fashion. I've already given up on Cate," I rolled my eyes, "I'm talking skirts, heels, handbags."

Renée was amazing, she went off on a rendition of some lullaby she used to sing to Bella when she was a baby. It was adorable!

I took a breath as it was my turn, "To the bride and groom! I may have only been a part of the family for a few years but the amount of love and devotion I've seen since coming here is overwhelming. Bella, welcome. Lord knows I've saved your ass more times than I can count. Thankfully now you're all Edwards problem," I got some laughter, "I'm so grateful to officially add you to my family."

"I'd like to thank Renée and Charlie for bringing such a wonderful person into the world and into our lives," Esme smiled at Bella's parents, "We will cherish and protect her forever."

The last person to make a speech was the groom himself, "It's an extraordinary thing, to meet someone you can bare your soul to. And who will accept you for who you are," I turned and saw Paul already smiling at me, "I've been waiting, what seems like a very long time, to get beyond what I am. And with Bella, I feel like I can finally begin. So I'd like to propose a toast, to my beautiful bride! No measure of time with you will be long enough. But let's start with forever." We all toasted and I sipped my drink as people watched them have their first dance and I rejoined my imprint.

When everyone joined the dance floor I was surprised when Paul offered me his hand, "May I?" I didn't even get to answer before he grabbed me and brought me to the edge of the dance floor where he brought me close, his hands on my hips and mine wrapped around his neck, "You alright?" He asked.

I nodded, "Just thinking."

"About?"

"When it'll be our wedding," I smiled.

He licked his bottom lip, his eyes were twinkling, "Just say the word."

"I love you," I pecked his lips, as I pulled away he groaned bringing me back, we both smiled into it.

"Hey guy- sorry to interrupt!" Seth bounced over quickly covering his eyes.

I chuckled as we broke apart, "What is it Seth?"

"Jake's here, we should probably keep an eye on him," he told us.

Paul and I exchanged worried looks before nodding, it wasn't a bad idea. At first everything was fine, they were catching up. Edward knew we were listening in on their conversation incase something took a turn. Which of course it did. And for the most stupid reason; Jacob got mad when he found out Bella was planning on having sex with Edward while she was still human.

"Jacob, calm down," Edward told him.

"Are you outta your mind? Huh? You'll kill her!"

That was our cue, Paul and Seth grabbed onto him trying to separate him from them, "Walk away Jake!" Seth pleaded, Jake shoved them both away from him. I once again stood between him and them, but this time I was a lot stronger.

"Enough Jacob!" Sam emerged from the trees with the others.

"Stay out of this Sam!" He yelled.

Sam was clearly aggravated by these turn of events, "You're not gonna start something that we'll have to finish."

"But she'll die!"

"She's not our concern anymore!" He snapped.

Angrily, Jacob shoved past Sam and ran off into the woods. Embry and Quill followed. Sam shook his head as he turned to leave before looking back, "Seth! Paul!" He snapped.

Seth looked ready to cry before sending us an apologetic look and following his alpha. Paul, however huffed before looking back at me, "Come by my place later?" He asked, I nodded and he kissed my temple before sending an aggravated look to Edward and ran off with the others.

I huffed, it got on my nerves too. Ever since I turned Sam removed me from any responsibilities I'd had. I wasn't an enemy, and he knew that but he wasn't sure how to lead me, I'd embraced my pack's destiny, meaning he couldn't order me around anymore. It was as if I was without a pack again. And Bella was still making problems that would separate me from Paul, but the two of us kept coming back to each other. I walked away, Edward eyeing me sadly before reassuring Bella everything was alright and they rejoined their party.

I was grateful when it was time for them to go. I participated in throwing rice at them before scurrying inside to change into something more comfortable for Paul's. It almost felt like it was our honeymoon by the end of the night. And man did it feel good, I almost didn't notice the wolf howling.
