《Fire and Ice》Chapter 24: The night before

After a few more days of training we decided to scout the field we were going to use for battle. Alice saw we were actually using the clearing where we would play baseball in during thunderstorms. That's mighty convenient for us, having the home-field advantage.
Jasper and I met up with Edward and Bella, who decided that they were going to hide away in the mountain while the fight was happening. Kinda sucked, Edward missing out on the action. But it was also smart in a way, keeping Bella away. Jacob however found this annoying.
"You're not fighting?" He asked when he joined us in the clearing, "What, did you pull a muscle or something?"
Bella rolled her eyes, "He's doing it for me, okay?"
"Whatever. Just tell me the plan."
Jasper jumped into his explanation, "This field will give us an advantage in battle."
"Newborns are naturally more thirsty. So if we use Bella's scent, we can herd them in like a pack of hungry lions, but the trail has to end here," I continued, "They'll be so blinded by thirst we can intercept them and take them by surprise."
"Edward and I are going to a campsite. Even if he carries me, they'll still pick up on our scents," Bella told him.
I could see the look on Edward's face, he didn't like this part of the plan, "Your stench, however is revolting," he eyed Jake.
"Dude you really don't wanna start comparing stinks."
I butted in again, "I can't carry her because my scent has been numbed by vampires, it would be pointless. So you have to carry her."
He nodded, "Done."
"This is not a good idea," Edward shook his head clearly not liking the plan.
I shrugged, "Well unless you come up with a better one, this is what's going to happen."
"They won't want to go anywhere near his..." Jasper looked at me trying to find a less-derogatory term to use, "odor."
Bella was clearly trying to get it over with as she walked over and let Jacob pick her up into his arms, "Eau de wolf coming up," he nodded.
"Run," Edward ordered, and with that they were disappearing into the woods.
When they were gone the tension in the air dissipated. We gave them a head start before trying to track the scent. Jasper looked over at me, reading me, "You're nervous," he noticed. I nodded.
"This fight is going to be bad. I can feel it."
He sighed, "Everything is going to be fine Cate," He promised as we walked back into the clearing, "All we picked up was wolf stench. No Bella," He praised as Edward watched us like an angsty teen, "This is going to work," Jasper was probably the most optimistic one out of all of us at the moment.

The night before the fight, Alice picked me up in her yellow Camaro and took me to Bella's where we convinced Charlie that we were having a sleepover with Bella at our house. Bella pulled up just as we were leaving, I smiled at Charlie, he was always so nice to me.
"Don't be a stranger girls!" He waved.
I nodded, "Bye Charlie!" I bid as we walked down the front steps meeting Bella.
Bella looked between the two of us confused, "Your alibi for the battle is all arranged," Alice told her.
"Really?"
"Yup, girl's night!" I cheered dramatically before stopping, "I got Billy and Sue to take Charlie fishing, so they won't be anywhere near town either."
She raised an eyebrow at me, "You guys are on a first name basis?"
"He likes us!" I shrugged.
"Actually you and Edward will have the house to yourself," Alice confessed.
"Like alone?"
I smirked, "They're going hunting. I'm staying with Paul."
She looked at me shocked, "Like at his place?"
"Yeah his dad's out of town on business...so I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity," I unintentionally fiddled with the pendant on my neck.
Alice laughed, "Yes you're going to have an eventful night now let's go!" She dragged me back into the car so I could help with some last minute arrangements before heading over to La Push.
~
Edward was rushing the shit outta me so I could get going. I was looking through my drawers trying to find something to wear. That's when Alice walked in with a little black bag.
"You can thank me later!" She smiled.
That's when Emmett stormed in, "Don't tell me you're going to that mutts house!" He looked so disrespected.
I rolled my eyes, "I'll let Paul know you say hi!" I joked as I walked into my private bathroom to put on the lace set.
"Ugh it's just so gross! You going over there and-"
"Don't act like we don't hear you and Rosalie practically banging like bunnies every night!" I shouted putting my tank top back on and zipping my shorts before leaving the bathroom.
Jasper laughed, "She's got you there."
I didn't need to bring anything with me so I gave each of my siblings a hug, knowing I wouldn't see them until the fight and by then we'd be a little preoccupied. I walked out and took my time getting to La Push. Which was actually the wrong move to make.
By the time I'd made it to Paul's and let myself in he barely let the door close before pinning me against the wall, "Took you long enough," he breathed as he attacked my lips with a carnivorous hunger.
The response was instinctual, grabbing the back of his head and gripping his hair made him moan in my mouth. He grabbed the back of my thighs and lifted me up, never breaking the kiss and wrapping my legs around him. He walked me blindly into his room and dropping me lightly onto his bed. He lifted his shirt over his head and I slowly copied him, leaving me in the black lace bra. His face was priceless. He laid himself on me, putting small kisses from my lips to my neck, my collarbone, down to my stomach until he made it to my shorts.

He looked up, as if asking for permission. When I nodded, he unzipped the shorts and discarded them on the floor with the rest of our clothes. His eyes darkened, he looked hungry.
Instead, however, he brought himself back up to my face, kissing me to the point I thought my lips were going to bruise. My nails scratched his back, and I knew they were going to leave marks by the end of the night. He unzipped his own shorts and I could feel his member pressed against my thigh. The thin layers rubbing against each other were making it harder to contain ourselves. They were discarded soon after.
I watched as he reached over into a drawer and pulled out a whole roll of rubbers, I raised my eyebrow at him playfully.
"You can never be too prepared," He breathed slipping one on before climbing on top of me.
At first the pressure was uncomfortable, foreign. He gave me a second to adjust before it went away. Before me, Paul had a reputation of being a ladies man. But you wouldn't know it the way we were, with me he was gentle; his lips soft on mine. Until we started getting carried away.
As he sped up, I realized it was a good thing no one else was home. With the amount of noise coming from the two of us, any supernatural would be able to hear easily what we were doing. But we didn't care. In that moment, we were one being, the same organism breathing in unison. He was mine and I was his. His hands were gripping the headboard as he slid in and out. I could hear the creaking of the bed but I was more focused on the house of his breaths, deep and quick.
He was becoming sloppy, my own climax building in my abdomen. I wrapped my legs around him, bringing him closer. My hands slid from his back slowly to his neck, forcing his lips on mine roughly as I felt myself releasing. Finally he shivered above me, and he struggled, trying not to overwhelm me with his bodyweight as he got off me and threw away the rubber.
He climbed back into bed and wrapped his arms around me. I wrapped my legs around him and laid my head on his chest, he traced my tattoo with his finger and the two of us just laid there. The silence was soothing until Paul said;
"I hate that you're fighting tomorrow," he told me.
I looked up at him, "I feel the same way about you."
He planted a kiss on my forehead, "I just don't want anything to happen to you."
"Jasper says everything will be fine. I'm meeting Seth in the morning to take him to the campsite where Bella and Edward are staying. Then Jake and I will meet you guys in the woods for the interception."
Paul sighed, "Just promise you won't leave me again."
"I promise."
~
The following morning it too every ounce of my being not to just blow it off and stay in bed with Paul. He slept like a baby, keeping a firm grip on me as if he was afraid I was going to disappear. I, however didn't sleep a wink. I was too wound up on the events that would occur the following day. When the sun rose I knew I needed to head out so I pried myself from his hold and started putting my clothes on.
"Leaving already?" He asked, a frown on his face.
I pulled my shirt over my head and pecked his lips, "I'll see you soon stud," I smiled sadly before walking to the door.
He grabbed my hand before I could leave and brought me closer. I could feel the heat radiating off of his bare chest, "I love you," He whispered, his eyes glued to mine.
I felt a lump forming in my throat as I got on my toes to kiss him, "I love you too."
He watched me as I walked down the road and out of sight.
~
Seth was very punctual, he was waiting for me at the rendezvous point. I tied my clothes around my ankle before phasing.
"Morning Seth!"
He tilted his head at me, "You're awfully chipper today, considering we're about to fight a bunch of vampires."
I started leading the way to the mountain, as snow slowly fell on my fur I was reminded of back home. With Seth in my head I was doing everything possible not to basically replay last nights events in my head.
"Just trying to stay positive," I lied before adding, "And you aren't fighting anyone remember? You're staying at the camp with Edward and Bella so they can have a connection to the pack."
He groaned, "Yeah, yeah. I know."
The snow got thicker under our paws as we climbed up the mountain. I could hear the others and called out to Edward as we approached the tent.
