《Alpha Caine》Chapter XXV

Caine
"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!" Tyson's voice is strained as he curses at me in pain. I just glance at him, unimpressed.
"If you think that hurt, you're in for a real surprise. One of your brother's talents is a lethal bite, or so it's rumored. Of course," I wipe my hand on a rag to clear some of the dirt from it, "he'd have to change for it to work."
I throw Tyson a rag and some gym shorts and he dabs the small nip that I left in his shoulder, his crimson blood barely staining the rag.
"How is us fighting going to help me defeat my brother?" his breathing is still slightly heavy as he speaks through his teeth, clearly annoyed with me biting him.
"This is the best training you're going to get. I'm the Moon Goddess's Hunter; one of the best trackers and best fighter you're going to find. Training with me is your best chance of survival when it comes to killing your brother."
"Why do I have to kill him? I may not know him and he maybe tried to kill me, but he's still my brother. He's he only family I have. Do you know what it's like, for someone like me, to find out I have family? I can't just kill him," Tyson finally cracks and throws the rag to the ground. I watch him in silence for a moment. After he sits and I hear his heart rate start to decelerate, I speak again.
"Follow me," I motion with my head and walk deeper into the woods that we are currently in.
"Why?"
"There's something you need to see."
*******************************
I push through the last bit of brush with Tyson right behind me into the clearing that we've designated to one sole purpose: to bury the bodies of our victims of war.
Small white crosses are neatly organized in rows upon rows, already almost three hundred of them forming a corn row pattern on the groomed lawn. The sun shines behind them, casting their shadows on the grass.
"What is this?" Tyson glances around, reading some of the names on the crosses, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. I cross my arms and stand in place as I watch him walk amongst them.

"This is where we bury your brother's victims." I hear him gulp, even from my distance.
"What do you mean?"
"For years Alpha Trenton has snatched border control, solo omegas, children, fathers, mothers, soldiers.... and killed them, tortured them to show us what his intentions are. He intends to take over our pack, and if that means killing innocent victims one by one to weaken us, then that's what he will do."
I walk past him and begin to read the crosses as well, my hands entwined behind my back. Tyson follows close behind me.
"Matthew Tanner," I read out loud, "loyal elder soldier of my pack. More importantly, father of two children, seven and ten, who's mother died only two months before him of cancer. Trenton stole their only parent left, without even caring." I continued to walk, Tyson's quiet but heavy breathing evident behind me.
"Isabella Daniels," I read another, "an omega. Only twelve years old when one of Trenton's men sliced her throat on her walk home from a friend's house," again I continue walking, Tyson still not saying anything behind me.
"Maria Christen, wife of one of my royal guards. Nine months pregnant with their first child when we found her dead, her stomach ripped open and the fetus decapitated next to her. She died from blood loss."
"Why is he doing this?" Tyson's voice is strained, upset.
"He wants power, and he'll stop for nothing to get it. Not even for family," I turn to face him. "You say he's the only family you have left. You know what my father always told me?" He doesn't answer.
"Family doesn't end with blood, kid. Me, Brayden, Logan.... we're more your brothers then he will ever be, and we only want what's right. So do you see why this needs to happen now?" He glances around at the graves again before gazing to the endless rows of crosses in the distance.
"Yes."

Amira
I watch the suds roll down my body as I rinse my hair in the warm water coming from the shower head. I take a deep breath as I try to process everything that's happening.
We only have a week left before we start a war. Only a week until Tyson changes and tries to take his pack from his brother. The days are ticking by faster and faster and the more they do, the more I think of how unprepared we are. We don't even have a plan.

Granted, we probably won't invade the Malignity Pack with Tyson the day after his changing, but it won't take long for word of him to reach Trenton, especially with his Delta missing now, too.
And we don't even have a plan.
I reach for the conditioner to apply it to my hair but as I do I'm jolted to a stop by a sudden headache. The tiles on the shower begin to morph to pure black and dizziness takes over me.
"Caine!" I scream, on the verge of passing out as I try to grasp the curtain for support.
"CAINE!"
I hear the door hit the wall as it bangs open.
"Amira? What's wrong?"
"Something's happening," I mumble as the shower curtain is ripped open and Caine reaches for a towel before wrapping it around my body. He wraps an arm around my back and supports me as his other hand grabs mine.
I grasp his hand tightly as he helps me out of the shower but before we exit the bathroom, I freeze, my attention distracted as I go off into my own world.
"Amira? Amira what's happening?"
I run through the trees, my legs moving faster with every step as I try to escape him. When I no longer hear footsteps behind me, I stop to take a breath, resting my hands on my knees.
When I look up again, I jolt back and scream in surprise.
Somehow he's in front of me, eyes like I've never seen before, rainbow orbs pierce my soul. The moonlight bounces off of them, making the colors sparkle like prisms of broken glass.
The wound from the bullet that I just shot at him is completely gone, only seconds after I watched the bullet push itself out of his chest.
"What do you want from me?" I back away from him, nothing but the sense of danger fills my mind.
He raises his hands, trying to reassure me that he won't hurt me, but I don't trust him.
"I just need answers, and I hear you're the person who can give them to me," his deep voice echoes through my mind.
"What answers? Who are you?" Still I back away as he inches forward.
"My name is Clayton."
I snap back to the present and collapse against Caine.
"Amira?! What happened?" He picks me up and sets me on the bed. I sit up and hold a hand to my head. His arm is still wrapped around me, holding me up as I try to explain what just occurred.
"I just... I just had a dream?"
"Like a prophet dream?" I nod at his question. "So you're having visions now? What was it about?" I don't answer right away.
"Him..."
"Him who?"
"Him," realization hits me, "I need to call Alpha Daniel."
I grasp the towel around my body and quickly get up to exit the room. I rush down the stairs with Caine close behind me. Water drips off of me and pools on the wooden floors of Caine's office when I reach for the phone on his desk.
"Why?"
"I need to talk to Robert," my voice is frantic as I dial Daniel's number, reading it off a slip of paper that Caine has taped next to the phone.
"Wait, Robert? From Hawaii? Why? Amira!" I raise a finger to shut him up.
"Daniel, this is Amira, I need you to transfer me to Robert right away. It's important."
"Umm-okay. Why?"
"Just do it!" Daniel doesn't hesitate because of my stern voice and soon I hear a rattle on the other end of the phone.
"Amira?"
"Robert! I saw him.... I saw the man with the rainbow eyes."
"You did? Do you know who he is?"
"Not yet," I gaze at Caine, who is watching me with a concerned but confused expression, "but something tells me I'm about to find out."
