《Alpha Caine》Chapter XXIII

Caine

I run my hands through my hair in frustration before aggressively pushing the large steel door to the containing room back open. It slams loudly against the wall behind it. Brayden gives me a questioning look, but I ignore it.

"Alright, you son of a bitch," I growl at Trenton's delta. I sigh in exhaustion, "Unchain him."

"Wait, wha-" Brayden interrupts but I cut him off with a look and the officers uncuff the man that Tyson called Logan. His arms fall and he rubs his wrists.

"Why did you do that? I thought mercy wasn't in your vocabulary," he still sounds exhausted because of the energy that I stole from him.

"Keep talking and you'll find out it isn't," I growl. "I believe you. You don't know if Trenton did it or not. But my question to you is: Do you know who he is? Actually know who he is?" I point towards Tyson, who looks from me to Logan with a serious face.

"Yeah," he lazily pushes himself off the ground and walks closer to Tyson, who squares his shoulders in caution.

"Hey, Tyson," Logan gives Tyson a sincere smile, and because of my talents I can tell he isn't lying. Tyson looks towards me and I nod, signifying the truth behind Logan's minute confession.

Tyson pulls Logan in for a hug and I would've made fun of him for his sudden feelings if it wasn't so damn touching. Amira is making me soft. Speaking of Amira...

"Logan, right? Are we allowed to call you that?" I ask.

"Please do."

"What is your first name?" Brayden asks in curiosity. Logan cringes.

"Perdu," I furrow my brows in confusion and he continues, "My talent was known since I was a baby. I turned invisible while still in the hospital. The nurses thought they lost me."

"So you're a spy wolf?" Brayden asks.

"A highly advanced one, yes."

"Useful," I mumble.

"Look, this doesn't mean I'm part of your pack," Logan makes himself clear, "I'm loyal to Tyson. If what you guys are telling me is true and he's the rightful Alpha of the Malignity Pack, then my service belongs to him."

"Calm down, buddy, I got it. You can have a room in the mansion next to Tyson's. You'll be able to shower and change there, we aren't letting you go back to the Malignity Pack, for obvious reasons. Any funny business and I'll finish you off in a heartbeat, got it?" He nods and I place my hand on his shoulder, giving back the energy that I took from him earlier.

"Thank you," he says, standing up straighter, and I nod to acknowledge his gratitude.

"Let's go, I have an angry mate to face," I mumble and Brayden quietly chuckles, earning a glare from me, as we exit the penitentiary.

Amira

I shove another shirt into the suitcase. Good thing I hadn't completely unpacked it yet. As I try to zip it shut I hear a voice behind me.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm staying at Jade's for a little while," I respond without looking at Caine.

"No you aren't," I can hear him approaching and I pull my bag away when he tries to grab it before going back to trying to get it to close. "Amira," his voice is tense, but I don't say anything back to him.

"Amira, stop," I continue to tug on the zipper.

"Amira!"

"Fuck you, Caine!" I quickly turn around and poke him in the chest, "You don't own me! You can't keep telling me what to do!" He loudly growls and rips the suitcase out of my hands before throwing it on the ground and pushing me up against the nearest wall.

"You're mine, Amira," his eyes grow dark as I glare at him.

"Not yet," I spit at him and push him off of me. I grab my suitcase and head towards the door. Just as I pull it open, Caine slams it shut again and I turn to him ready to blow up only to quickly back away.

Caine's breathing is heavy and his eyes are dark with anger. His teeth are starting to elongate and poke out of his ajared mouth. He growls.

"Son of a bitch," he shakes his head and growls again. "Brayden!" he yells and I back even further away from him. Brayden barges into the room, followed by Tyson and the man from the penitentiary. Caine's body has started to spasm and I can tell he's about to transform.

"What happened?" Brayden looks at me wide eyed. I just look at him in fear.

"Logan, take.. Amira," Caine growls again, not quite finishing his sentence.

"Logan, take Amira somewhere else, quickly. Tyson and I will handle him." The man from earlier, who is obviously Logan, grabs my arm and pulls me out of the room just before I hear Caine bark, which is followed by a fit of growls from multiple wolves, indicating that Brayden and Tyson have changed as well.

"What just- who are-?"

"He's just pissed off. Newly changed alphas don't have good tempers, especially him, considering he's basically the alpha of vengeance. And it doesn't help that he's the Moon Goddess's Hunter since that just intensifies his heartless nat-"

"I'm sorry, who are you?" I freeze in place in the middle of the hallway and the prisoner from earlier turns to look at me.

"I'm Logan. I'm Tyson's best friend."

"Then why did Caine have you chained? And if he had you chained before then why are you in his mansion?"

"Well, I'm also Trenton's delta. That's why Alpha Caine had me chained. Honestly, I don't know why he let me go, I probably wouldn't have if I were him, but I guess he trusts me," Logan shrugs.

"Consider yourself damn lucky then," I mumble and push past him. He chuckles. "You're doing pretty well for having half your energy stolen."

"Alpha Caine gave it back," Logan says and I turn to him, assuming I've heard him wrong.

"He what?"

"He gave it back," he shrugs. "Why are you making that face?"

"I'm just surprised he gave it back," I make my way to the library. I would've left but my bag is still in Caine and I's room, and that's currently preoccupied by three wolves. Also, I don't know how Caine would react if I actually left, so maybe hiding out in the mansion would be a safer option right now.

"Me too," Logan says, "I thought I was dead for sure. I'm still not sure why he just believed me so easily." I fight the urge to tell Logan that Caine can detect lies, knowing how he is about his secrets.

We enter the library and Logan lowly whistles.

"Impressive," he says, referring to the many shelves of books that surround us.

"You read?" I ask, slightly surprised.

"Well you don't need to say it like that," he sounds offended as he grabs a book and sits down in a nearby chair to read it. I do the same.

After about an hour or so of reading, the door creaks open, but I don't raise my head from the book, already knowing who it is.

"Logan, could you give us a minute?" Caine's voice echoes through the empty library. Before I can beg Logan to stay, he closes his book and stands up.

"Yes, sir." Shortly after I hear the door close.

"Amira, can we talk?"

"I have nothing to say to you, Caine."

"Well then you can just listen," I can tell from his tone that he's still frustrated.

"I don't want to listen." I guess I don't care that he's angry. That or I have a death wish.

"Amira, you-"

"Actually, you know what, Caine. I do have something to say to you," I close my book and stand up, puffing my chest boldly out at him with a surprising amount of confidence. I roughly poke his chest as he stands there with his arms crossed. "Let's get one thing straight. You don't own me, so don't act like you do. I'm not yours until I say so, so if you want that to happen I suggest you ease up. I'm independent, I can do whatever I want whenever I want. Got it?" He raises his eyebrows at me and follows it with a smirk.

"You're going to talk to your Alpha like that?"

"You're going to treat your Luna like this?"

"You're not my Luna until you say you're mine, sweetheart, so looks like we both have a problem with the situation here."

"If you seriously think you're marking me after today you're delusional," I hit his shoulder on my way out the door. To my disappointment he follows me.

"Well aren't I eventually?" I stop walking.

"Caine. You stole his energy. You just took it!"

"I gave it back."

"How many wolves have you not given it back to?" He pauses in hesitation.

"The Moon Goddess wouldn't have given me the gift if she didn't want me to use it, Amira," he growls at me.

"Just because you have it doesn't mean you have to use it!" I turn to walk to our room again.

"Like your talent to inflict pain?" I freeze at his words. "Whether you like it or not, the Moon Goddess gave us those talents and paired us up for a reason. We're supposed to rule like that, Amira. That's how the Obsidian Pack is supposed to be."

"Being heartless isn't just something you're supposed to be, Caine. It's a choice," I push our bedroom door open and he closes it behind us.

"This is how I am, Amira. I'm sorry if I'm not exactly perfect, but someone has to be the insensitive one or nothing would get done."

"You don't need to be insensitive to get things done," I groan. "You're so-"

"Inhuman?" he raises an eyebrow at me, "That's because I'm not human."

"Just because we're not human doesn't mean you have to be so cold. No one is going to want you to lead if they feel like they can't talk to you."

"Then you'll have to be the one they talk to," his voice is stern. "How I lead my pack isn't any of your business."

"If I'm your Luna then it's my pack, too. So how you lead it is my business," I cross my arms to match his stance. He looks me up and down before breaking his ascetic face and smirking. "What?"

Instead of answering, he moves towards me, pulls my face towards his, and kisses me, and for some reason I don't pull away but kiss him back instead. Our anger towards each other intensifies into sexual tension.

"Then be my Luna," he growls seductively after he pulls away, his forehead still resting on mine.

I pull his face back to mine and he freezes for a split second in shock before taking control and tangling his hands in my hair. Our anger and frustration with each other add to the intensity of the heated kiss.

He throws me on the bed and quickly crawls over me to kiss me again, and again I return it as I wrap my hands eagerly around his neck. My actions even surprise myself, so I can't imagine what he's thinking right now. Though he's obviously not hating it....

He pulls his lips from mine. His voice is raspy and his breathing is heavy as he speaks.

"Can I-"

"No," i interrupt, my breathing heavy as well, "Not yet, I'm still pissed at you." He smirks, but it looks slightly forced.

"Then I better stop myself before I can't anymore," he crawls off the bed.

"Caine-"

"It's okay, Amira. I understand," he gives me a small smile. "It can wait. I don't want it to happen like this anyways. I'm just going to go take a cold shower."

I stay silent as he walks to the bathroom and closes the door.
