《Alpha Caine》Chapter XVII

Amira

"How do we know if this is the right island?" I ask Daniel as we step off of the jet. My jaw drops in awe at the beauty of the island around us. Warm air blows through my hair and the salty smell of the ocean as well as those of the multiple flowers and plants surrounding us fills my nose. The sun setting on the horizon gives the whole island an orange glow.

"Those plants in your drawing were yellow hibiscus flowers, a plant indigenous to Hawaii. So if your dream was correct, then it is most likely that Tyson is here. Or at the very least on one of the neighboring islands." I nod as I turn to my right and a patch of the flowers that Daniel was talking about mixed with a bunch of red flowers of the same kind. I point them out to Caine and he reaches over to pick a red hibiscus and tuck it behind my ear.

"Now remember, the islands of Hawaii are populated by humans, so no transforming of any kind. They know me well here, but none of them know what I am. Don't mess up my years of hard work." Daniel looks sternly at Caine.

"What are you looking at me for?"

"I'm not worried about Amira. You're the one that can't control your temper." Caine scoffs and rolls his eyes before grabbing my hand and dragging me next to him as he follows Daniel.

"So where do we start?" he asks.

"We'll start tomorrow with some research and then tomorrow night we'll look for him. It'll be less troublesome for us if we search at night, when the humans are asleep. For tonight we'll just get settled in." Daniel leads us to a jeep that brought us to a large building off of the coast. When we enter, a man calls out to Daniel.

"Amira, Caine, this is Pekelo. He's a good friend of mine and who I was talking to on the phone when you came into my office the other day, Amira."

"It's very nice to meet you two," he displays a large smile that shows off his pointy canines and sticks his hand out for us to shake.

"You're not human," Caine squints his eyes suspiciously, "I smell Whitefire Pack on you."

"Yes, Pekelo is a member of my pack. I transferred him here for help with some of the business deals we make with the humans," Daniel confirms Caine's suspicion.

"I'm actually surprised you can still smell my pack on me. I've been away from them for some time now," his heavy accent makes it clear that he's been here awhile. His tanned skinned and dark hair make it obvious as to why Daniel sent him here, he blends in with the local people.

"Caine is the Moon Goddess's hunter. His sense of smell is much stronger than most," Daniel explains, and Pekelo nods in understanding.

"Are you Hawaiian?" my curiosity brings out my somewhat intrusive question.

"Yes, my ancestors were Hawaiian, so this is my homeland," he smiles again. "Can I show you to your rooms?" I nod and he leads us to an elevator which takes us to the twelfth and topmost floor.

"I gave you three the best two rooms we have," he opens up the massive double doors in front of us and my jaw drops for the second time today as Caine finally releases my hand and I venture into the large room.

The suite was completely open, with some plush sofas surrounding a large flat screen tv, a luxurious kitchen with more than enough appliances filling it, and a massive bed with curtains surrounded by windows overlooking the ocean.

"Daniel is in the suite to your right," Pekelo interrupts my gawking, "my employees will bring your luggage up for you a soon as it arrives. I hope you enjoy the room," and with that he smiles and exits with Daniel. The large door clicks shut behind him.

I walk out the glass French doors to the balcony and gawk at the view. Caine walks up behind me and places his hands on either side of me on the fence, his chin resting on my shoulder.

"It's almost as beautiful as you," he said and held back a scoff.

"That was cheesy."

"I know, but I tried," I can feel the smirk in his words as he pulls away and stands next to me, leaning his elbows on the fence. "So, where do we start with this whole Tyson thing?"

"I don't know," I sigh. "Don't wolves as powerful as him have a certain sense of smell? Shouldn't you be able to find him if he is on this island?"

"Normally, yes. But I'm being overwhelmed by new smells right now, and I don't know if he would have a smell on him. He's been rogue for awhile," Caine says, clearly frustrated.

"Is it ever too much?" I ask and he looks at confused.

"What?"

"Being able to smell everything like that?"

"Yes," a few seconds of silence pass, "like your body soap."

"What's wrong with my soap?"

"It's unnecessary. Your natural wolf smell is much better, I don't know why you try to cover it up. Plus it's way too strong, and makes you super easy to find," he looks back out to the ocean.

"I'm sorry?"

"Just stop wearing it. Your smell is more desirable anyways," he gives me a small, sincere smile and I feel slight tingles in my stomach.

"Okay, I guess I can try that. Since you're trying everything new for me, too."

"Thank you," he says quietly. "I appreciate that."

"Wait, did the Alpha Caine just thank someone?" I put my hand over my heart in mock shock. He smirks.

"Don't push it, sweetheart. Come on, let's go to bed. We have a long day tomorrow." He opens the door for me and the crashing waves are the last thing I hear before they're drowned out for the night by the closing door behind us.

Caine kept his distance during the night, and I woke up without his arm around my waist. In fact, he wasn't even in the bed at all.

I sit up and stretch before looking around the suite, wondering where Caine went. As if on queue, the door opens and he walks in with a tray of breakfast food in his hands.

"Morning sunshine, I got some breakfast for us," he smiles brightly at me.

"You didn't have to do that," I say as I get out of bed and walk to the table in the room.

"Of course I did. Can't have my mate going hungry," he winks and sets a plate of scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast in front of me along with a glass of orange juice.

"Eat up, Daniel wants to meet us at 8."

I greedily took a bite of my scrambled eggs followed by a few more large spoonfuls. Caine watches me with an amused smile.

"What?" I say through the food in my mouth. He just chuckles.

"You're cute. Did you have any dreams last night?" I shook my head.

"Do you think we'll actually be able to find him? What if he's not here?"

"We'll find him. I think those specific flowers were in your dream for a reason. And I'm the best tracker in the world, I'm The Moon Goddess's Hunter. If I can't find him, no one will be able to."

"Can I ask a question that I mean in no way to be offensive?" I ask and he nods.

"How come you haven't found him yet?" He freezes and a slight look of panic crosses his eyes for a split second. Then he sighs and relaxes again.

"I don't know," he mumbles, and I feel a pang of sympathy for him. I can hear his own disappointment in his voice.

I reach a cross the table and lightly grab his hand, "We'll find him, don't worry." He gives me a small smile in return.

"I hope so."
