《The Three WolfMates》Chapter 42 - Battlefield

Nathan POV
It was now Tuesday morning around 9 o'clock and we are still trying to discover the City of Athens. Starstruck with the help of his brothers has been pushing to the limit to find the temple as quickly as possible so we can return home. While we were here Starstruck, Strom, and Spirit have been assisting us with controlling our powers and how to best utilize them. Starstruck has been teaching me how to teleport to long distances and how many people I can teleport in one move.
"Everyone is expecting us to be back by tomorrow and our flight is tonight. We need to find this sword now." Dethan announced as all sat around the room trying to get our plan together.
"Agreed. It's best if we get a move on it immediately." Ethan expressed.
"There are only 3 more areas we haven't looked. Hopefully, it's in one of those places." I explained to them as we all stood up to leave our suite.
We got in the car and were off to the first stop. It was about an hour and a half from the hotel so it took us a while to get there. As Ethan is driving I spotted this van in the rearview mirror trailing behind us but I didn't think much of it. Maybe I was just being paranoid.
Ethan pulled up to the area and knew right away this wasn't the pathway to the City of Athen. So we stayed in the car and continued our way to the next location. This one was two hours away so we have quite a long journey on our hands.
"Speed up a little bit Ethan," I said.
"Why?" Ethan asked confused.
"Just do it I need to see if my eyes are playing tricks on me" I confessed
"Okay I guess"
He began to speed up and just like I thought the van in the next lane did the same.
"We're being followed" I declared to the others as I look into the rearview mirror.
"How do you know that?" Ethan questioned glancing across at me.
"That white van behind us has been following us since we were on our way to the first location. I thought it was just going in the same direction to go somewhere else but it's here again." I described it to them.
"We need to get them off of us before we head to the next site." Dethan acknowledged Ethan
"I know"
He took us through a back street and when we saw they were nowhere in sight all of us got out of the car. We hide in the alleys covered by tall buildings that weren't heavily lit and waited for the van to pull up.

When it did; at least 5 guys got out looking around for us.
"Where did they go?" One of the men asked the others.
"The boss is not going to like that we lost them" This one seemed concerned.
"Continue to look around they couldn't have gone far." The same guy told the others.
Ethan and Dethan summoned their swords as soon as we heard footsteps getting closer to us. We can't shift out in the open in case someone pops up so Ethan suggests I should stay here since we're not sure what kind of weapons they may have. They rushed toward the empty street to attack the ones that were following us.
I teleported to the top of a building to oversee what was going on. As suspected the underworld creatures had swords as well. But their weapons were no match to my brothers' own. When Dethan finished off the last one I teleported back down. This is how every encounter with the underworld has turned out for the past few days since we found the swords of Poseidon and Zeus.
We got back in the car and continue on our way to the second location. After about an hour we arrived at the place. All of us got out of the car and began to look around for the gateway. After some time I stumbled upon a stone with writing.
"Look guys I found something over here" I shouted to my brothers as they came over.
"What is it, Nathan?" Ethan asked I pointed at the stone with the writing.
"You can't see the writing on the stone?" I questioned glimpsing at both of them.
"Nope, nothing it's just a normal stone." Dethan let out as Ethan agree with him.
'
"Do you know where it is Nathan?" Dethan asked
"I may have an idea where the gateway is and I'm sure it's the right place"
"Starstruck has an indication of where the location might be" I informed the others
"Okay then let's go," Ethan spoke up then we began our way to the car.
"Not so quick boys," someone said from behind us.
We turned around to find a guy with at least 15 more men and women behind him. They were carrying the same scent from the other underworld. Seems like we can never get a break.
"Who are you and how did you find us?" Ethan furiously questioned the guy.
"I'm Lilin the son of Orobas and your scent is not quite lowkey." He responded.

The potion to block our scents must've worn off.
"Good to meet you or whatever but we have somewhere to be so just save us the trouble and run along to the caves you came from," I muttered to him.
"Nice try but I was sent to end all of you and I will succeed in that mission" Lilin confessed.
"Only a few of you? Well, give it your best shot" Dethan chuckled.
They all rushed toward us as Dethan and Ethan conjured up their swords and I transformed into my wolf. Lilin stood back watching as his men attacked us. They were putting up a much stronger fight than the others who came before. After a few moments, they were only 5 men left along with Lilin. I attacked the woman that was closest to me as I sunk my canines into her neck and snap it apart from her body.
I looked in the direction of Lilin with her head hanging from my jaws. I sprinted towards him as he changed into his supernatural form; a hellhound. I teleported and before he knew it I attacked him from the side knocking him to the floor. He stood up growling as we began to circle each other.
He breathe fire towards me but I teleported to dodge it and tackled him from the same side again this time with much more force. As he hit the ground he whimpered and crawled back away from me. Lilin got up and limped away as he signal the others who were still alive to follow him.
After they were gone I walked over to the car. I shifted back and cleaned myself up. Then I got fresh clothes out of my bag and threw them on.
"That was eventful." I indicated.
"I don't think I could handle another fight today" Dethan declared with a laugh.
"Hopefully we don't run into any more of them" Ethan replied putting on a clean set of clothes.
I got into the driver's seat and begin our 5-hour journey to the north of Greece where the gateway is. After many pit stops and complaints about my driving, we were only a few minutes away.
"What did that stone mean when it said 'Where it all began'" Dethan asked
"This was the first battlefield Ares had entered as the God of War" I explained to them what Starstruck had told me.
We pulled up to the location and it was overlooking a huge open field. Upon first glance, I saw the stone in which to open the gateway to the City of Athens. I slice my palm and watch as the blood pours into the seal. When the seal was covered the temple began to appear down the hill in the field. It must've been cloaked all these years. My brothers and I strolled down to the temple as the doors began to open. We got inside and were shocked at what we found.
"How the hell are you still alive?" Strom remarked looking at the creature they left here many years ago.
"You guys never killed me being immortal and all" Cacus replied.
He looked dried out and very sickly. Must be from being locked in here for so long.
"Uncle Cacus is that really you" screamed a voice from behind us. We took a glance and saw this woman with at least 50 others behind her.
When we thought this day couldn't get any worst.
"Now who the hell are you?" Spirit harshly questioned.
"I'm Lilith the daughter of Orobas, King of The Underworld," she answered proudly.
"So you came to take a beating like your brother dearest" Starstruck implied with a chuckled.
"Let's just grab the sword and go. Ethan and I are quite tired from all the fighting today. We can't take on all of them right now. I will freeze time and while I do that get the Sword and teleport us out of here." Dethan explained to me through the mind link.
"I will end you" Lilith venomously declared as she ran towards us with her army.
"Well nice knowing ya bye" I answered back and glimpse at Dethan.
As he froze time I teleported over to The Flaming Sword and pulled it from the stone it was buried into.
"Hurry Nathan I can't hold for much longer," Dethan uttered.
I teleported over to my brothers, grabbed their hands, and teleported to the gateway to close it. When the doors were shut we ran over to the car and were on our way to the airport to catch the first flight out of here.
"At last we have The Flaming Sword of Ares. Now our mission can finally begin" Starstruck announced.

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have. The Great Erectus and Faun
The Great Erectus, otherwise known as "The Big Guy" is NOT a god. Don't call him that. It will tick him off. He and his newfound apprentice/sidekick the definitely not a creation goddess Faun have a little problem. The Big Guy's universe is blowing up. Faun might have had something to do with that. (She feels awful about it BTW) They must rush about the unraveling universe saving (or judging) worlds as the end of all things is bearing down upon them at the speed of light, so they have a bit of time but really can't mess about. Along the way they will encounter Lovecraftian horrors, divine ex-girlfriends, surly AI's and a host of other hassles. Enjoy such delights as the complete destruction of the universe, a children's "Christmas pageant" except where "the greatest story ever told" involves an eldritch horror from another universe, and an innocent misunderstanding concerning the exact definition of a "red dwarf". Existential dread! Lovecraftian comedy! It's as much madness as can be shoved into a single work and still remotely make sense! If you enjoy completely off the hook lunacy, this one is for you!
