Red finally felt his soft small pillow press up against his face. The sun shining through from his tiny window. Red sat up from his bed, looking outside to see all the other small buildings laying peacefully beside him. He was finally back home.
When Red finally arrived back, everyone was so happy to see him as well as the net of eggs that came with him. They all had cheered for him and even the judge formally apologized to Red. He finally felt like he was a part of the community again and walking back into the village felt like old nostalgia. Everything was just as Red remembered it, except for a new home that stood in the middle of the village. It was his home. He looked at it with astonishment and his heart filled with emotions. Chuck and Bomb hugged him tightly as he was able to finally go into his simple little home.
Red stared outside his window, amazed by the view of other happy people when a knock came from his door.
"Red, you awake?"
A cheery voice echoed through the door. Red smiled as he hopped out of his bed and went to open the door. Seeing Chuck and Bomb standing outside.
"Yep! did you guys come up with a fun day for today already?"
"Yeah! of course, there is so much to do!"
Red quickly changed into his usual red jacket before joining Chuck and Bomb on a fun trip around the island collecting seashells. Red always enjoyed their peaceful activities and Chuck loved the adventure of finding unique and cool looking shells while Bomb just loved hanging out with his two friends. Red enjoyed hanging out with them too.
"Oh! hello from down there!"
a voice greeted, flying from high up. Everyone looked up to see Mighty Eagle descend down to the sand, standing in front of them with a warm smile.

"Hi Mighty Eagle!"
Red greeted still amazed to see Mighty Eagle in person. Before they landed back at the beach, Chuck was able to quickly explain everything and how Mighty Eagle actually was real. Red couldn't stand admiring Mighty Eagles feathers and wings.
"Looking for seashells hey?"
"Yeah, wanna see what I found?"
Chuck asked, holding open a bag filled with different shapes and sizes of colourful shells.
"Woah, those are amazing."
Mighty Eagle looked with amazed, proud to see how happy Chuck was around him. He also looked around the ground in hopes to be able to add to his collection. Quickly finding a small rosy sort of shell with what sort of resembled a heart on top of it.
"Oh look! here's another one."
Mighty Eagle added, reaching down for the shell but struggled to grab the shell with his feathered wings. Red noticed his struggles and reached down to grab it for him, handing it to Mighty Eagle with a smile.
"Oh! thank you..."
Mighty Eagle handed the shell to Chuck who inspected the shell with starry eyes.
"thank you!"
Chuck skipped away, continuing to look for more shells. Both Red and Mighty Eagle smiled with delight to see Chuck so happy.
"Enjoying being back at Bird Island?"
Mighty Eagle asked, facing over to the calm Red.
"Yeah... I did miss the view and the sounds of the beach."
Red responded, enjoying the feeling of the sound under his feet and the fun to be with his friends.
"Yeah it is truly a lovely view."
Mighty Eagle also relished in the sight, standing beside Red as they both watched the sea and Chuck look for shells. That's when Red noticed he couldn't see Bomb.
"Wait... where's Bomb?"
"Bomb? Oh! the huggable dude."
Red walked around, wondering if he just went around a corner or behind a giant rock.

"Chuck!"
Red shouted, grabbing Chucks attention, racing over to Red.
"Do you know where Bomb is?"
Red asked with Chuck looking up to dive into his previous memories with Bomb.
"I think he went further that way to look for shells."
Chuck speculated, pointing north of their location, and right as they looked over to that direction out walked Bomb, who seemed rather tense. Red raced over to Bomb with Chuck and Mighty Eagle following behind.
"Hey Bomb, you okay?"
Red asked, walking closer to him. Bomb looked over at them and quickly changed his shifty eyes to a calmer and happier expression.
"Oh! haha yeah, I'm okay, was just looking for more shells but uuh But I only found... worms so why don't we go look somewhere else for shells?"
Chuck glanced over at Red to catch his suspicion but Red just agreed, walking with Bomb the opposite direction. Chuck just let go of it and went with them to another location.
"Wait why don't we go uum rock hunting- I mean, look for ants!"
Bomb then suggested, gesturing to inside the forest near the village.
"Wait hunt for rocks or ants?"
Chuck questioned, genuinely losing brain cells thinking over Bombs suggestion.
"Um actually its been a long day why don't we just go do something inside, we could have... a sleepover at Mighty Eagles cave!"
"Sleepover?"
Red queried.
"At my cave?"
Mighty Eagle exclaimed, surprised.
"Yeah! It'd be fun to see all your trophies and hear about how you won all of them, wouldn't it?"
Mighty Eagle was intrigued by the offer, loving the idea of going off about how great he is. But Red thought that was a bit too tiring for him.
"That does sound fun, really, but I think I might just head home since it is getting dark."
"Wait! you sure you wouldn't want to stay with us?"
Bomb asked with the most forced smile ever.
"Uum well I guess you could all come with me back to my house and we can maybe do something more interesting than hearing about Mighty Eagles trophies."
Red suggested, curious about Bombs sudden determination to stick together.
"Aaaw i think hearing about my heroic missions would be very much interesting."
Mighty Eagle moped.
"Heh well then we'll stay at your place then, it is getting dark now so lets go!"
Bomb exclaimed, leading the way back to Reds place. Chuck was extremely sus of Bomb and quickly distracted Red and Mighty Eagle and speed up to him and get him to talk.
"OK, spill the beans big man!"
"What?"
Bomb asked, his eyes bouncing from Chuck to in front of him.
"You have been acting super weird lately and you're terrible with hiding things, so spill it! what's wrong?"
Bomb let out a disappointed sigh.
"I can't tell you, I don't want to worry you or Red."
"You keeping us in the dark will only make us worry more. We're a team, no matter what the problem is we're in this together."
Chuck promised, making Bomb rethink his choices and taking a deep breath as he prepared to tell Chuck.
"I saw a ship and i think that it might of been from Piggy Island, it probably sounds stupid but i don't know... it just seemed suspicious to me."
"Well if it is those mischievous little runts- we will be prepared this time and give them all we got!"
Chuck threw fake punches at the air, giving Bomb a good laugh.
"Yeah, i just hope that they aren't going to try and hurt Red..."
Bomb looked behind him at the joyful Red, converting with the giant eagle-human. Chuck looked back as well, sharing Bombs worries.
"We'll make sure, they never even touch him ever again."
Chuck promised, Bomb slowly nodding his head as they got closer to Reds home.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!
