《Vanilla Smoke (Blue Exorcist)》Chapter 38

Shima had laughed at Amaimon. Possibly the one thing you should never do, laugh at an extremely powerful demon who was obviously self-conscious of his broccoli head. With his demonic speed, Amaimon had flashed down in front of Shima, and kicked him in the gut, sending a shocked Shima into a tree. An audible bang could be hard at the impact before Shima fell to the ground.
"Shima!" "Shima!" Bon and Konekomaru cried. Amaimon turned towards Bon. In every aspect of it, Bon was terrified, and he had the right to be.
In an out-of-character act of bravery, Konekomaru stood in front of Bon protectively, and then with a simple touch, Amaimon broke his elbow, reversing the joint completely from the force, then proceeded to grab Ryuji by the throat.
Shuku then decided it was her time to intervene. Shuku flowed her power through her blade, and threw it, just as Bon finished saying something to Rin, and Amaimon grip tightened, ready to crush his throat. The blade whistled through the air, the wire, light and untouchable behind it, and the blade hit it's mark, into Amaimon's hand.
Amaimon's eyes widened in confusion, then let go of Bon, him falling to a heap on the ground, coughing. Steam rose from the cut of Amaimon's hand, then the blade rushed back to Shuku and quickly, she moved from her spot, into a new position. Amaimon's eyes scanned the area the knife had come from, narrowed. He dropped Shiemi, and onto Konekomaru. Rin held a nearly nonexistent smirk, Shuku the Ninja had come to the rescue.
"Oh, it looks like you finally decided to play Princess. I wondered when we would play." Amaimon said into the air. Bon's eyes filled with confusion, and so did the injured Konekomaru and Shima's. Rin had paid no mind to it as he struggled to his feet while Amaimon was distracted.
"Hear my plea and gather oh celestial light. Act as my bow and light the darkness with your holy light. Let me pierce the dark with the arrows and bow of Artemis!"
An arrow shot out from the tree line, and headed straight for Amaimon, an arrow made of pure light. Amaimon step sided and the arrow sunk into a bolder behind him, and the bolder shattered into pieces. A second arrow flew from the tree line, and Amaimon barley had time to dodge, the arrow flew past him, not even a centimeter away from his head. He reached up, and felt the line of blood seeping from the burning cut on his cheek.
"M'lady, I appreciate it that you want to play with me. But big brother said I shouldn't do that. I'm only supposed to play with Rin." Amaimon said, a slight look of discontent on his face.

A third arrow whistled by, and hit with a loud thud. That arrow had landed firmly into his shoulder. Amaimon had a look of shock on his face, he had been hit. After a moment, the arrow disappeared, but the wound remained. After overcoming his initial shock, Amaimon looked seriously pissed rather than hurt.
Shuku launched herself from the treetops where she'd been hidden, then shot three beaming arrows simultaneously from a bow that seemed to light the night just like the arrows, made of silver light. Shuku landed into a role onto the ground, and firing another from a kneeling position. Amaimon started walking towards Shuku, barely dodging the arrows, the first three went one above Amaimon, one to the left of his head, and one aimed perfectly at his stomach, that was until he turned, and the arrow exploded behind him. He caught the finial arrow on centimeters away from his face. Exposed skin on his hand started smoking from the contact, but with a tightened grip the arrow shattered into fractured pieces of light.
Amaimon was about 10 meter away from Shuku now, who was quickly running out of arrows, and the energy to maintain the incantation. 2 shots were left. Shuku took those two arrows and shot them. At this distance, they would be near impossible to dodge. The two arrows shot off at near impossible speed and hit. One had sunk itself into Amaimon's leg, the other, into the same shoulder as she'd hit earlier. Shuku could catch a brief moment on Amaimon's face in a mixture of pain and shock, and it filled Shuku with satisfaction.
In a blind rage, Amaimon flashed in front of Shuku and picked her up by the throat, rage clear in both of their eyes. Shuku's hands went to her throat as Amaimon's grip tightened crushing her airways. Shuku lifted one foot and attempted to kick Amaimon in the side with it. Her leg was brought to a halt by his hand, then Shuku used her other. Before she could him, a sharp pain spread up from her leg that Amaimon held. He'd broken it. Shuku let out a choked scream in pain. She was helpless here. She couldn't speak to perform incantation or move to reach her blades.
Rin watched as Shuku was held up by Amaimon, then screamed as he broke her leg. Rage filled his entire being. Shuku had been trying to protect him, and everyone else. An image flashed before his eyes, Shuku, her smile, it had seemed so sad. She has a dream, and if she'd died, her dream would die with her, and he couldn't let that happened. Somehow, curiosity nibbled a Rin as he wondered what Shuku would look like with a joyful smile on her face. The red bag that usually covered his sword fell to the ground. A determined look crossed his face as Amaimon looked up at Rin, still crushing Shuku's throat.

"Rin! It's a trap! Don't fall for it!" Yukio shouted panting afterwards. His gaze fell on a injured Shuku in Amaimon's grasp.
"Yukio. I'm sorry. I... I guess I just don't got it in me to keep lying to everyone. So I decided, I want to use my power, to do something good. For everyone!" Rin said down to Yukio before tightening his grip on his sword and unsheathing it.
Blue flames engulfed Rin, and his tail showed itself, his ears pointed out and the blade of the Koma sword gleamed in Rin's blue flames. Amaimon dropped Shuku, and she fell to the ground in a disoriented heap, her breath no more than struggling rasps, stakes of red covered her throat from where Amaimon's sharpened nails had dug into her skin. An overjoyed grin filled Amaimon's face, and the proof of broccoli disappeared from the top of his head. Laugher came next.
Bon, Konekomaru and Shima looked up at Rin in shock. The blue flames that had ruined their temple engulfed Rin, but never harmed him.
"Well! You want me here I am!" Rin shouted.
With an excited jump, Amaimon ran up after Rin, "Yay!"
Shuku let out a ragged cough and struggled to push herself to her feet. She had to. She could let this happen. She still had some fight in her, even though the incantation had taken a lot out of her, she could still do this, she could still fight.
Shuku pushed herself up into a standing position, and squinted up at Rin. The sound of clashing metal rang through the air, along with Rin's blue flames. Shuku limped over to the three boys, who watched in a mixture of fear and awe up at Rin.
"Holy Crap." Shuku caught Shima say.
"I-is Okumura... what I think he is?" Konekomaru asked, his gaze not parting from Rin as he held an unconscious Shiemi.
"If it's an idiot. Then right on." Shuku rasped as she got closer to the four.
"The sword." Was all Bon said, staring as well.
"Huh?" A weak question came from Nerd.
"Kutikata."
A large wave of blue flames was sent after the swing of Rin's sword. Amaimon looked dow at them from just above them, until Rin gained the upperhand, and managed to jap his blazing sword into Amaimon's back, burning him.
"What about it?" Shuku asked. Her fire still burned, and the pain behind her eyes was really starting to bug her.
"Shuku... you seem awfully calm in this situation since we just found out that Rin's a demon!" Shima shouted, his gaze brought to Shuku, then he stopped. He noticed the look in Shuku's eyes. He remembered it from the day at the coffee shop so long ago, the look of wanting to kill something. A killer's instincts and bloodlust, but this was aimed at Amaimon, not them.
"I don't see anything different in Rin. No matter what he is, or who I am, he's still Rin. And I'm still me"
Before anyone could question it, Yukio made his way over to them, and immediately to the unconscious Shiemi. He knew Shuku could hold for a little longer, she was stronger that Shiemi. He crouched down and made a small incision in the back of her neck and carefully removed the parasite. Once the parasite was safely removed Shura ran out of the tree line.
"Hey is everyone ok?!" She shouted, and Shuku narrowed her eyes.
"Where've you been all this time?!" Yukio asked back. Other than a few bruses and minor cuts, the only one majorly injured was Shuku and Konekomaru's elbow.
"Well I wasn't fartin' around that's for sure! I was fightin' Amaimon's pet! We've go to bail now, it's not safe here. Oh, and Shuku. You and I are going to have a long chat about that light show of yours." Shura ordered. Shuku scoffed loudly in response, earning a serious glare from Shura.
Everyone began picking themselves up and moving back towards where they had first bee dropped of at this dreaded forest. But Shuku had no true intention of leaving, she had to protect Rin with whatever power she had left. But why? She should leave, some part of her still wanted to, but a stronger part wanted to stay as long as she could.
The burning sensation in her eye grew and Shuku winced, gripping it, it was her left.
"Shuku? Come one." Yukio urged, Shuku nodded before limping along with them.

From the Final World
I have lived a long, long time. Longer than the universe knows; longer than any star has seen or traveling light records. My memories; that is all that is left that knows that length, and that which was seen within it. Then again, that is all that ever did. When I am gone, it will be forgotten, a truth and a history lost forever no matter who or what tries to find it. I think that is why I write this now. A record, or a lament, of the most significant being of all time. It is a prideful exaltation of endless triumph, or the dread condemnation of infinite evil. I don’t know which; I shall leave it for others to judge. I could explain further, of course. I could list the sins that have been committed, the deeds that have been done. Yet for now, I believe this is enough. Her story will speak for itself. About the good, and evil, in the heart of a single girl burdened with more than her fair share. And how she reacted to it. So, I will tell her story. Of gods and devils, mortals and monsters, of legends long forgotten and civilizations long turned to dust. And in the end, I hope she knows herself, whether it is salvation, or destruction, she should receive.
