《Vanilla Smoke (Blue Exorcist)》Chapter 35

Shuku jogged through the forest, flashlight away. She had no need to use it. Her right eye glowed in the dark it's bright purple, iris slitted and Shuku's senses reaching out in every direction for anyone, and anything. Shuku bound over a small barricade of bushes and slowed to a stop on the other side. Her head whipped around at a sudden flash of blue light, from the direction she had just came from, near the opposite side of camp. Rin.
Quickly, Shuku resummoned Hebimaru, and the serpent appeared in a cloud of black smoke, a small amount of lightning coming off of it before disappearing before revealing her 8 foot summons.
"Master Shuku." Hebimaru dipped his head in greeting. "How can I be of use?"
"I need your help locating something. A lantern, though I don't think the obvious kind. It should be somewhere within 100 meters of our location. Do you think you could locate one for me?" Shuku asked Hebimaru.
"Of course M'Lady." And at that Hebimaru dispersed into thunder clouds.
Shuku sighed and walked up to a close tree, and leaned on it before taking out the can of stolen beer and popping it open. The cool, adult beverage ran down her throat and Shuku sighed, the alcohol soothing her nerves better than her vapor pen would. She needed to find a lantern, but the kind unknown. This drill seems like there's no doubt more to it, but what?
Shuku looked up at the moon glowing above her head and pressed her hands together and intertwined her fingers in prayer.
"Great Dragon of the Moon. Please help me know what lies ahead and be able to have the knowledge to do the correct thing." Shuku whispered, then opened her eyes.
"Huh, I found one." A vaguely familiar voice said from behind Shuku. Whipping around at a blinding speed, Shuku slipped out a kunai and slashed blindly. A green head pulled back just narrowly dodging Shuku's knife.
"Wow, you're fast, any closer and I wouldn've been hit." The green eyed demon stated, looking at Shuku with observing eyes.
Shuku growled at Amaimon, deep and inhuman. Her eyes narrowed as she clasped her kunai to her fingers and prepared for a full scale battle. He blinked at cocked his head at her response. He raised his hands and Shuku glared at him.
"I just need to borrow something that you have. Can I please have it?" Amaimon asked.
"Oh yeah, and what is that?" Shuku growled in response, poised to attack, right eye glowing brightly under her messy bangs.

"The rocket used to signal in case you wanted to quit. You probably won't need it anyways, so can I have it? I'll give you some candy as a trade." Amaimon cocked his head to the side like a small child and held out a lollipop in one hand and his palm facing up in the other.
"What are you going to do with the rocket." Shuku had relaxed her stance slightly, but her guard was still up.
"Make some fireworks. Please!" Amaimon looked up at Shuku expectantly, and Shuku slid her hand into her sholder bag, and set the rocket in his open hand, and took the pop in return. He smiled at her and waved before disappearing up into the trees.
Shuku slipped her knife away a few moments later, as clear as it was to make sure Amaimon wasn't coming back. Unwrapping the pop, Shuku sniffed it. Vanilla, vanilla cupcake flavor. Deeming it safe enough, Shuku popped the loli in her mouth. Leaning back up against the tree, Shuku closed her eyes again, and sighed. Something bad was going to happen, soon. She wished she'd just fought Amaimon, but that wasn't something she could've done easily, not without exposing herself or nearly dieing. It was better to just comply... for now.
Five minutes late, a cloud of black smoke materialized in front of Shuku, and she cracked her right eye open. Hebimaru appeared in front of her and bowed his head in greeting.
"Master Shuku, I have found what I believe it is you're looking for. But, it's going to take quite a plan to get it back to the exorcist base camp. I have found the purple haired girl at a different one. Follow me to it's location." At that Hebimaru slithered off into the forest, and Shuku jogged behind.

Shuku stared blankly at the 'lantern' before her. It was clearly larger than Shuku, and not a lantern. But a peg lantern. A demon that looks like a giant stone lantern, and uses living things for food. It was her job to get it back to camp, by herself. Shuku let out a loud, audible sigh, and looked up when a rocket was triggered. Was someone giving up already? Or was that her rocket being used by Amaimon. Shuku shifted the pop in her mouth to the other side.
The vanilla in the pop had been helpful. Much more effective than her vapor pen. Shuku recalled what she knew of Peg lanterns. They used living things for food. And they like women. They moved and would give chase, and weren't the smartest of demons. Now, the moths in the forest were attracted to light, and could be used as a food source. In front of the peg lantern, there were several sealing talismans, and a cart. But where was the fun in that? Why pull a heavy cart when the thing could walk, and run on it's own?

Shuku was now sprinting through the forest as fast as she possibly could without losing the lantern. The brush scratched her bare legs and stomach. The lantern, not too far behind was the Peg Lantern, it's stone eyes only focused on Shuku as it bulldozed through the trees. Despite being chased by a demon through the forest at night.
The plan Shuku had created had been simple, at least in theory, but wasn't everything easier in theory? First, Shuku would have to look like a girl. Shuku had changed her clothes, and into her bikini that she had slipped into her pack. It showed off the curves in her body, but her scars also. But no one was around so it was cool. Next, Shuku had to use her one and only match, not like it mattered though, to light the lantern. Finally, the last part was to get the awakened lantern's attention and run like hell back to base camp. And that leads to what Shuku was currently doing, running from a peg lantern.
Shuku veered off to the side, to avoid a thick group of trees. Her feet, covered in her boots still, pounded against the ground. Yet again, Shuku's head snapped up at shouting and a bright burst of light. Running in that direction, the lantern followed Shuku as some of the demon mothes few into it's mouth. Shuku pulled out the gun, and jumped over another set of bushes.
At the sight of a giant moth chasing something, Shuku open fired, hitting it with several bullets. The thing screeched in pain before disapperaring, and Shuku continued her sprint in a bikini in the dead of night all the way to camp.

Shuku burst through the final row of trees and into a clearing, where three people sat. The two teachers and the puppet guy who sat in front of a stone lantern. As the lantern that had been pursuing Shuku burst through the tree line, she whipped around and slapped the sealing talisman onto it and it stopped dead in its tracks. Puppet was the same as ever but Shura was wide eyed and Yukio just the same.
Shuku put her hands on her bare knees and tried to catch her breath.
"Ha.... ha... You.... ha should... see the.... looks on...ha... your faces." Shuku panted, but let out a weak laugh as well.
"Shuku.... "Yukio said through his shock.
"What?"
"Put some clothes on."
"... Oh. Yeah." Shuku blinked and remembered she was in her bikini still.
Shuku rummaged through her bag, and pulled out her clothes and her hoodie along with her weapons and such, but hiding the gun from Yukio, and the beer too. Going behind some bushes, Shuku started wiping off the dirt along her stomach and legs. Wiping the dirt off, her white scars, some still slightly pink, could be seen reflecting off the silver moonlight dappling the forest. Shuku paused for a moment, glancing around nervously, before changing back into her bra and underwear quickly. Shuku zipped up her pants and sweep them off with her hands. From the direction of the camp, a loud group of voices joined the mix. Throwing on her shirt and hoodie, Shuku walked out into the open once more.
"What the hell! How'd you guy's finish the mission on your own?!" Shuku returned to Bon shouting.
Dragging her pack behind her, Shuku plopped on the ground next to Izumo. When'd she get here?
"I just made my familiars drag the lantern back. Takura and Shuku got here before I did though." Izumo said, staring at the fire.
"It took them that long with that much help! Wow, what a bunch of losers!" Puppet said.
"Agreed. I didn't even need the cart." Shuku nodded, a smile on her lips as she finished off the pop from Amaimon.
"Shuku! How'd you do it?!" Bon shouted pointing an accusing finger at her. Shuku pointed at herself innocently.
"Oh. Well, I just lit the thing then ran like hell. Do you guys have anything to do with the giant moth I shot at?" Shuku said, her fake face of innocence morphed to her usual smirk.
"Oh, yeah. That was an accident." Rin said guiltily like he had something to do with its appearance. Probably did.
Shuku closed her eyes for a moment, but they quickly flashed back open with a quick vision. Amaimon. He was coming.
Shuku said ominously, catching everyone's attention in an unbreakable silence.
Shiemi winced in pain and grabbed the back of her neck, catching Rin's attention quickly.
"What, that's it? Everyone's back? So none of you gave up? Then who set off that bottle rocket?" Shura asked quietly, eyes still focused on Shuku though.
Shuku internally sighed. Of course, Amaimon was back.

Every sailor knows the tale of Davy Jones' Locker. That place drowned sailors are sent to, ever resting on sea's bed. Some tales recount of a ghostly ship, the Flying Dutchman. Many a story has spawned from these two tales. Countless retellings mixing in their own fictions. But all stories spawn with a kernel of truth to them, and the story of Davy Jones is no exception. Those who've met the legendary seaman and his ghostly ship might call him a ferryman, escorting the drowned to their respective afterlives. Others might call him a devil, meting punishment on those deserving. The true story is always slightly different. Davy Jones is a ferryman, but not one for the afterlife, as Walter finds out. No, Davy Jones manages those who die at sea while in debt, and Walter died with a lot of debt. Unable to pay, Davy puts Walter to work. The specter has just the job for the dead college graduate. Another god, Sod, needs an afterlife for his new world. Davy tasks Walter with the job. Suddenly, Walter finds himself having to run a fledgling underworld with little instruction from Sod.
