《Vanilla Smoke (Blue Exorcist)》Chapter 28

Shuku strolled around the park with a bored expression, Hebimaru acting like a scarf. It was hot, quiet, and boring. She just wandered around aimlessly, following where her feet took her. Honestly, she was lost in the maze of vendor booths, though she would never admit it, her pride refused. Shuku wanted to find the place with all the big rides. Climbing that roller coaster that said "GO TO HELL" on it sounded like a great idea at that moment in time.
Shuku popped her head around the corner, and saw an exit, then sighed in relief. Walking out of the vendor section Shuku looked up at the Ferris wheel off in the distance, and the roller coaster just across the opening. Shuku smiled mischievously, an excuse forming in her head to as why she would be up there if she was caught. Hebimaru glanced at Shuku, realizing what his master was about to do, and looked up at her.
"Master Shuku. As much as I know it would please you to climb the amusement park rides please re-... You don't even care." Hebimaru deadpanned in his snake-like way as Shuku gripped onto the maintenance ladder of the ride, and started climbing up to the peak of the coaster.
Shuku had thrown caution to the wind, not giving a crap if she fell, cause she wouldn't. Up at the top, she could get a clear view of the entire park, and keep watch from up there. And Shuku just wanted to see the whole park as well. She'd never been to an amusement park, or anything close to the matter. It was always training and her duties as the priestess. No one gave two shits to what she thought or wanted, other than the handmaid, which always used to pester over her when she got back from training bruised and cut, with a side of exhausted.
At the top of the ride, Shuku would never admit it, but her eyes lit up. The view from the top was phenomenal. She could see all of the rides over the whole park, and the maze of vendor booths, and the beginning of the park. Shuku deadpanned as she realized that all she had to do was go straight, and she would've gotten to the same location, in less time. Damn it...
Shuku's gaze focused as she mentally zoomed in on the small figure below her, near a giant Clown statue. She was absolutely positive that Mephisto had the world's biggest ego right now. She pushed her hair out of her scarred eye and her vision seemed to zoom in. It was Rin. From the looks of it, he was on his phone, but then, Shuku froze. There, above Rin, there was a demon. Definitely not the ghost they had been sent to find, no. There, above Rin, was Amaimon, the Demon King of Earth. A high-class demon and a son of Satan.
Hebimaru spotted him as well and hissed. Shuku was frozen. This. Was. Bad. It was obvious he was focused on Rin, but Shuku knew, if she was found, she'd be in for a whole lot of bullshit. If she was discovered, then he probably wouldn't keep quiet about her, and then she would have to leave, go find another safe place to hide and get stronger. But inside, she doubted she would be that lucky to strike gold twice. She just prayed that he held no concern for her and her own ego was getting in the way. After all, why exactly would a demon king be interested in her, let alone notice her?

Shuku watched in both fascination and fear as Amaimon took Rin sword, so effortlessly, away from him and inspected it, tossing the bag Rin kept it in down to Rin with disregard. Shuku could hear Rin shouting in protest, but couldn't make out the words. She should leave, she shouldn't give a fuck about anyone and save herself, keep herself safe, not sit there like fucking pigeon.
Amaimon repeated sheathed, and unsheathed Rin's sword, causing him to go back and forth between demon mode and normal Rin. If not for the potential danger to her existence, she would've been highly amused, having to want to do that herself, just to piss Rin off to get him to fight her. Rin wasn't very fond of sparing with Shuku, so she had to piss him off the point where he wanted to fight her.
As she watched, Shuku came to a conclusion on how exactly Rin's powers were linked to the sword, even though Yukio had explained it to her... She really hadn't been paying attention. The blade itself was a gateway to Gehenna, the demon realm, where Rin's abilities were. The scabbard acted as its door. But what if the gate was broken? What would happen then? Shuku snapped out of her thoughts when Rin smashed the head off clowns statue, and Amaimon jumped onto the roller coaster supports. Shuku then decided, Rin could handle himself, and to fuck all the shit and leave. That would've been a wonderful thing to do too, except, she was stuck at the top of a Roller Coaster, and going down meant either death or getting spotted.
Apparently, Shuku didn't have a saying the matter, and the King of Earth jumped up high, and closer to Shuku, then snapped his fingers, and the ride burst to life, along with the rest of the park. Shuku didn't have time to be amazed, or jealous of the demon's power when the carts for the coaster came up the ramp at a slow pace. A way out, and a way down without dying, hopefully.
Shuku jumped into the back cart, and apparently, Hebimaru doesn't like high speed, and ditched her, much to Shuku's displeasure. But what was worse was when Amaimon and Rin brought their fight directly in front of Shuku, Fuck! The coaster crept up right behind him and Amaimon jumped up onto the very front cart of the roller coaster, while Rin was climbing up from where the carts were going to go down. That IDIOT!
Shuku refrained herself from yelling at Rin and sunk into the floor of the cart, hiding her presence as much as possible. Rin jumped up into the air, no doubt spotting Shuku, and Amaimon followed him, continuing his casual, one-sided chat with Rin. The carts sped under then and just as they passed, Amaimon flicked Rin into the track, not only destroying it but sending Rin through it as well. One the way down, they destroyed another track and Amaimon continuously punch Rin in the face.
That was it, Shuku decided. She was going to get off the coaster, and help. Shuku quickly clasped her kunai to her fingers and threw them, the wire running after the blades. The blades managed to wrap around one of the sturdier sports. Wrapping the wire around her hand, Shuku jumped. Eyes wide and teeth clench in both pain and determination as the wire started to cut her skin, and from basically free falling. She swung as the wires maxed out, and the wire sunk deeper into her hand. As she reached the bottom, Shuku saw she was still about 10 feet from the ground. Calling back her kunai, she fell down to the ground below. Landing in a role, she quickly hid before Amaimon could spot her.

Behind one of the poles, Shuku assessed the damage to her hands. It was bad, to say the least, the flesh had been cut a good centimeter in on the sides of her hands, and seeped blood that fell onto the ground below. It stung like a paper cut, and she had trouble moving her fingers.
"This is so disappointing, and here I was hoping you would help kill my boredom." Amaimon said. His tone confused Shuku, that was his purpose, he was bored? And the boys said Shuku liked to fight when unentertained.
Rin suddenly grabbed Amaimon's face, and Shuku jumped when Rin power flared, and he lost it. Rin sent Amaimon through a solid concrete wall, glaring at Rin. No, that wasn't Rin, that was the true demon inside Rin. He picked up two of the metal beams and threw them at the other demon, who narrowly dodged one. It would've hit if he didn't have unbelievable demonic speed and flexibility.
But Rin caught Amaimon and held him down by his throat, growling. It was more human sounding than Shuku's, but he was definitely pissed. Amaimon slammed his fist into the ground, a long crack spread across the ground, and the earth shuddered, causing an earthquake that shook the whole park. The metal fell from the top of the Roller Coaster, and stabbed an inflatable ball pit and bounce house. Amaimon kicked Rin off of him, and Rin gave a loud shout, his blue flames responding. He started making his way back to beating Amaimon up when Moriyama screamed.
Shuku's head snapped over to the direction of the shy girl's scream, to find Shimei under a small branch barrier by her small green familiar, as the inflatable bounce house collapsed and was about to consume her. Rin seemed to come back to his senses just in time to attempt to save her. When he seemed to realize he couldn't make it, he sent the most epic, and terrifying blast of blue fire just over top the poor blonde's head, and burned away the threat.
Rin fell hard on his hands and knees, panting, his injuries taking their toll. Amaimon walked over to Rin and slammed him to the ground using his foot. Shuku winced, getting ready to perform an offensive incantation.
"Is that it? Are you done with you're show? How boring for me. My brother didn't want me to do this but the fun's over so I guess I can break this now. " Amaimon said, and Shuku growled, deciding which incarnation she was going to use.
That's when a new voice beat Shuku to making her entrance.
"Devour the eight princesses. Slay the serpent!" Shuku couldn't hide her shock, it was Hoodie. He had summoned a demon sword and was now attacking Amaimon. Shuku cursed and continued to watch waiting to see what would happen.
Hoodie clashed with Amaimon using her own demon sword and sent him away from Rin. That was another thing that didn't make sense. Why was he protecting Rin, no one else knew other than the staff, Yukio, and Shuku, and a few demons?
"Oo, and who might you be?" The green haired demon asked. Hoodie roughly picked up Rin and made him sit next to them.
"You're Amaimon, King of Earth, aren't you?" He, which Shuku now realized sounded more like she, said. "I wonder how a big shot demon like you got into the academy? What? Did Mephisto summon you?"
Shuku decided against her previous idea and took out her vapor pen, but quickly put it away when Amaimon ran off, sheathing Rin's sword and tossing it back to him.
"The others will be here soon, hide the tail will ya?!" Hoodie ordered, before pursuing Amaimon.
Shuku jumped out of hiding and went to Rin's side. He definitely seemed upset, she would be if a demon like that had kicked her ass. Shuku squatted down beside Rin and lightly touched his shoulder. He seemed to be taken out of his thoughts at the contact and met Shuku's gaze, which had softened at the sight of him. Shuku and Rin had become close as friends, in fact, it was closer than Shuku had ever been to anyone, and she felt bad even though she wasn't physically hurt at all. It was... odd.
"Well don't you look like shit?" Shuku said softly and Rin looked at her, the tone she was using was a foreign one. It was soft and caring, but that layer of sarcasm was still there, just not as harsh as it usually was.
"Just so you know, healing's never been my strong suite, and I know you heal fast. I'm just going to ease the pain and stop some of the blood flow. But after that, I'm honestly not sure if I'm surprised that you're not dead." Shuku said honestly.
Rin looked at her in confusion as she muttered a brief incantation and a golden light enveloped her hand, but when her hand got close he smacked it away.
"Don't touch me!" Rin shouted, then blinked. He didn't mean to yell at her, but he had just lost control and hadn't fully recovered. "Sorry... I didn't mean to." When Rin looked at Shuku again, she didn't seem affected by his outburst at all, if anything, she'd completely ignored it and went to heal his wounds like she said she would,
He'd never see her act like this, and she seemed confused to why she was doing it as well.
"You watched the fight? Where from?" Rin asked, keeping his eyes on Shuku as she healed his wounds with a blank expression.
"I was kinda caught in the middle. I was up top the roller coaster and couldn't find a way down when Amaimon showed up without being discovered. Then when the ride started I climbed in and hid in the back, which was way too close for comfort, you idiot. Then in order to keep myself from dying, I managed to get the ground but got hurt in the process," Rin gave a slightly concerned look at Shuku's hand, it still bleeding slightly. She would take care of them in a minute.
"I watched from a hiding spot nearby. I was actually pretty sure you spotted me on the coaster," Shuku explained, and Rin blinked. He wasn't sure what she should do now. She didn't help him to keep herself safe, but now she was helping him. Why did Shuku have to be so confusing?
"Thanks, for healing me." Rin thanked as he got up and Shiemi came running over. He still looked like he'd gotten out of a fight, but he wasn't in pain anymore. He picked up his sword and held it in his hands.
"Rin!" She shouted as she saw how hurt he was.
"Hi, Shiemi. I'm okay. I didn't find the ghost but I found Shuku instead. Does that count?" Rin said, trying not to get to the subject of how he looked like hell. "What happened to that little brat?" Rin asked.
Huh, they must've found the ghost, and from the look of sadness on Shiemi's face, it was gone. "He just disappeared. He called me big sis then said thanks." Moriyama responded, yup, Shuku was right.
"Oh, good." Both Rin and Shiemi were staring at each other. Shuku internally smiled. They definitely liked each other, no doubt about it.
"Rin, we should definitely come back here someday!" Blondie said with a closed eye smile, and Shuku walked over to a pole and leaned up against it, her eyes hooded as she smirked.
"Shiemi!" Shuku looked up and saw Glasses running over. "You alright?" Yukio asked, and Shuku scoffed. Rin still looked like crap, yet Yukio asks Shiemi if she's alright first.
"I am but I think Rin got hurt and he's going to need some treatment." Shiemi mentioned and Glasses turned to Rin.
"Rin, Are you a-" "What took you so long?" Shuku's head snapped to the new voice, it was the person in the hoodie, walking towards them. Shuku had a creeping suspicion and was resisting the urge to hide or runaway, but that would look even more suspicious. To hide her nervousness, Shuku borrowed some bandages from Shiemi to help her hands, as well as a few medicinal herbs.
"Seriously Yukio. It was taking you forever to get here, so I had to make a move." She smirked and Shuku glared at them. Shuku hoped she hadn't done anything too suspicious. She had seen her use one of her incantations before, which if they correctly connected the dots, things could end badly. But who was she, and how did she know Glasses.
"It can't be..." Glasses said in disbelief, but his face remained stoic.
"Yukio? What the hell's going on around here?" Rin asked his twin, voicing Shuku's concerns.
"I can't go another day in this damn hoodie anyway." She said more to herself, as she pulled off her hoodie.
Shuku did a double take of her, face stoic but eyes narrowed. She had pulled off exactly what Shuku had but was better at keeping it secret. She had two toned, wild red and blonde hair pulled into a ponytail. As a top, she wore a red bikini top. But what had caught Shuku's attention was the purple markings, a summoning or storage incantation, going from her lower collar bone between her breasts, then stopping around her belly button. Shuku glared at her.
"Sorry kids, I'm not your classmate. I'm an inspector with the Knights of the True Cross. HQ sent me to inspect a dangerous element, and then a runaway in the Japan branch. I'm a senor exorcist, 1st class, Shuku Kirigakure." She introduced herself, and Shuku sent her a premium death glare.
Everyone else seemed surprised but Shuku growled deeply and inhumanly. If she came near her, then Shuku was gone. If she was an inspector for the Knights of the True Cross, who no doubt wanted their hands on the priestess, Shuku's cover might've been blown. And that meant, Shuku's time here at True Cross was coming to a close.
