《Vanilla Smoke (Blue Exorcist)》Chapter 7

"Now, Shuku. Answer honestly here. Would you care to explain just how long and how you found out that you dorm and classmate here is the son of Satan?" Mephisto asked, a smirk playing his lips.
The room fell silent as the two shocked brothers looked at a wide-eyed and aghast Shuku. He seriously had not expected the Clown to expose him Just. Like. That. He had expected Mephisto to just leave him be. But this?! No way in hell. His usual stoic look had vanished and was replaced by shock, that slowly started to shift to guilt against his will from not telling Rin he knew who he really was. Shuku usually did very well at hiding his emotions, but after the clown subtility, Shuku was left unguarded.
"Wait. Shuku? You knew?" Rin asked, his eyes wide as coins. After a moment, Shuku slowly nodded and Rin hooded his eyes.
"How long?" Rin's eyes were serious, and Shuku now seemed very uncomfortable in being exposed. Rin was never serious.
"The first day. After school..." Shuku responded, his voice was low but still steady. His grip tightened on the handles of things that could only make such a circumstance worse to the point where his knuckles would turn white.
"Now, now. Shuku, before this escalates, you are going to hand over all of your weapons and set them on the table here in front of me. And I mean all of them." Mephisto chided with a shake of his finger, he had caught onto the vibe Shuku was giving off and wanted to prevent the worse outcome. Shuku felt threatened.
The two Okumura brother gave Shuku a bewildered look as he slowly, and stiffly nodded, not wanting to hand over his weapons, knowing that the clown knew he was armed.
Slowly, Shuku put his other hand in his jacket pocket, he gripped the other handle and pulled out the two things that had saved his life on more than one occasion. The two blades were flat but no doubt sharp and strong. They were each maybe just over a foot long and gleamed a polished silver. Etched into the blades were two serpentine dragons. The cloth handles were worn down from frequent use for all situations. At the end of each blade, there was a small hole. Shuku also set his vapor pen on the table. Then went inside his bag, and slowly dragged out a loaded gun and several sets of bullets on the table.

Yukio looked at Shuku confused and shocked. A Page definitely shouldn't possess weapons of that level or a demon killing gun. Was Shuku lying all along?! But more importantly, was he sent to kill Rin?!
"I'm quite impressed you possess two holy silver kunai blades as high quality as these. I bet these themselves are very valuable." Mephisto picked up one of the knives and held it, examining it closely.
"Sir Pheles, I don't believe I've heard of that type of weapon before," Yukio managed to get out of his tense position, staring between a silent Shuku and the dangerous, yet elegant blade.
"Ah, they're the perfect weapon for assassinations. Quick, light, and most importantly, silent. Easily concealed in hidden sheaths, like the ones Shuku here has in his hoodie pockets. Holy Silver, though, is a specific and valuable metal used by the Hunters. I haven't seen it in quite a while" Mephisto explained. Shuku clenched his fist, nails digging into the flesh of his palms, drawing blood. He not liking how close this was hitting to home.
"Holy silver is blessed silver formed into weapons of high quality. Perfect for killing demons due to its qualities similar to that of holy water. It's very expensive and extremely hard to get. These blades here might be the only Holy silver weapons you may ever see. Now Shuku, mind explaining where you came to possess such weapons?" The clown continued then asked Shuku.
Rin stole a sideways glance at Shuku. Although he knew, Shuku didn't treat him any differently than anyone else would. For that in itself Rin was thankful, but Shuku still had too many secrets, probably more than Rin. Yukio told himself to keep a close eye on Shuku from now on, to protect Rin from their possibly dangerous update.
"Alright," Sir Pheles sighed once he realized Shuku clearly wasn't going to answer that question.
"Now, I'm going to guess you assumed training from the Hunters and have a history with them which will be talked about at a later date. Now, how exactly did you discover Rin's identity?" He asked instead.

Shuku hooded his eyes, avoiding anyone's gaze, this was way too close for comfort. Shuku wanted his knives back.
"I...I followed him after the tour of True Cross. After I eavesdropped on your conversation with him and discovered it then, then... I left." Shuku answered, his voice merely a whisper as he avoided Rin's burning gaze.
"Ah, yes I remember. You would make an excellent spy for someone, I never even noticed. But you should know eavesdropping on someone's private conversation is quite rude. But none the less you found out and now here we are. Now, as it is only fair that you found out his secret, in return he should know one of yours." Shuku's head shoot up at this so fast he almost received whiplash, startling both Yukio and Rin.
In that moment, 'uncomfortable and threatened' had made a quick turn left to 'Fucked' street. Shuku's eyes widened as he realized his secret was already out. He had been caught, and now, he was being exposed. Shuku went to object but Mephisto cut him off.
"And because I was the one whom you heard it from, they shall hear it from me. After all, how could I not know someone as important as you were staying here? Not only are they looking for you, but other power hungry demons and people are as well." The clown said to a still and silent Shuku. Yukio and Rin cast Shuku confused looks at both Mephisto and Shuku, what had that meant? Why would demons be after Shuku as well?
"H... how?" That Shuku said all he could. 'Fucked' had turned to 'bullshit'. He'd been caught red-handed, and now had to pay the fiddler's bill.
"Ah, my dear. If you are going to run away and make yourself a disguise, make sure no one knows it's you. That scar of your's is also quite a giveaway, it's your trademark. A fair group of higher ups and exorcists have been given a description of you and to return you back. They're offering quite the reward for your safe return as well, so high even I might be tempted to take it."The director commented thoughtfully.
Shuku's eyes widened even more. He wasn't safe, even if didn't look the same as he had previously. If they had a description of him and knew who he was, there had been no point in a disguise at all. Slowly the panic started to settle in. The man before him now held his life. What he did would make, break, or end Shuku. Kill him, imprison him, or let him be with the knowledge that there were people who knew what he looked like now. That nowhere was safe from their peering eyes.
"Don't. Please don't. I-i can't... not yet. I'm... I can't. Not yet. Not now. No... please." Shuku begged, cutting himself off in fragments as he thought of the future actions that were the most likely to happen.
His shoulders were shaking and his eyes seemed filled with uncertainty and fear of what this person held over him. Honestly, Shuku was about to have a panic attack. The man in front of him, he could kill everything Shuku had worked years for, in less than a minute.
Rin got a dark look in his eye and stood up, then grabbed Shuku by the collar. "Rin!" Yukio shouted, but right now he wanted answers.
"Who the hell are you?!" He demanded holding a now crying and shaking Shuku, "Whoever you are, you're not Shuku. He would never lose his cool like that!" Shuku shut up and stared at Rin with wide eyes, but his breathing didn't get any more even.
"Rin, hate to inform you, but Shuku Murasaki does not exist," Mephisto stated, making Shuku snap as Rin's eyes widen.

8 129NEWDIE STEADSLAW Part I
NEWDIE STEADSLAW is a randomized array of Chekhov's red herrings, non sequitors ex machina, run-on sentences, and em dashes—so many em dashes. It's like if the Bible and Shakespeare had a baby that they surrendered to foster care, then it got adopted by Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss—the books, not the people—and then the baby fell down the stairs. In this metaphor, the stairs wrote the story. Part I is the tale of the adventures of Traycup and Roby as they try to hold down a job inside the hollow Earth—a place made possible thanks to the secret science of embargoed relativity—and they get distracted by dancing foxes, a giant's record collection, and something with a train, I think. It's a work of fiction—although to call it work seems insulting to, y'know, actual work—but the fiction label is apt, so, y'know, that's a win. Half the words are made up, and the other half are embarrassed to be seen with them. Part I is complete.
