{Epilouge} ♔ Kenzie the Queen ♔ Mackenzie's Perspective ✧

So now it's a year after Gavin was killed, and here's what's going on: I'm not sure why you guys like reading about my life, but here it is.

I dress myself into the white dress of my twentieth birthday party, the day Gavin and I first met. It surprisingly still fits. The weather is way too cold for me to be wearing this; it's the middle of fall. I'll let myself get frost bite.

Then my mother walks in dressed in black with my three-month-old daughter on her hip. Yeah, daughter. I was throwing up before and after Gavin's funeral, I only thought of it as a reaction from crying so much. Turns out I was pregnant.

Little Carter has Gavin's smile and nose, but my eyes. She's dressed in a cute little fall outfit that is obviously too big for her body. I take her in my arms and wrap a jacket around me.

"...and let you rest peacefully. Amen." Says Gavin's dad. Our family all says goodbye to his grave but I stay back with Carter. I want to say something, anything, but I can't bring myself to even say a word.

I cry silent tears and one drops onto Carter's chin. Her brown eyes open and look at me before crying along with me. I rock her back and forth and kiss her cheek.

"You would've been a great dad." I finally tell Gavin. "I'm so sorry this happened to you." I look at the sky full of clouds and take in a breath.

"H-hey, remember when you grabbed my ass when we first met? Yeah well... I don't know how I was gonna end that; I just wanted to bring it up." I laugh. I swear I could hear the trees laughing along, but it sounded like His. I then force myself to leave, I can't take this much longer.

I place the orange rose on the ground and walk away with my baby girl in my arms. I pass the garden where Sam used to work. After searching through security camera footage, I saw that he was the one who shot my husband... or fiancé.

He kissed me before he died, does that count? Sam, who I thought was my friend, is now locked up in jail for the rest of his days. Though it will never mend the missing piece of my heart.
