"Let's go" Rowan and Vivienne grab Leo's arm pulling him towards the giant stairs.
"Why do we have to go on the sky train" Leo rips his arm away from Rowan stops abruptly.
"It'll be fun, trust me."
Leo shakes his head "we're going on the sky train , in the middle of the night."
"Yeah," Rowan and Vivienne walk upstairs, I look over at Luca and Leo, and they both shrug, but we all follow Rowan.
"What the fuck are you doing " Leo yells, a little too loudly for my liking.
I move further up to see what he's talking about.
Oh fuck.
Rowan's talking to some random man who's sitting on one of the benches.
Rowan turns his head and looks at us; he then turns back to the man and shakes his hand.
I walk towards Rowan, and he walks towards me as well. I look rowan in the eyes. "Rowan, who is that"
He looks confused but soon realizes who I'm talking about "that's Mike."
"Who?"
"Mike"
"Never mind " I look away with wide eyes and lean against the wall.
A loud noise of metal screeching makes me look up.
The train.
"The trains here, "Rowan says while looking at me.
"Really?" I respond, shaking my head with wide eyes.
Rowan looks at me and then looks towards the others, completely ignoring my comment, " let's go."
Soon enough, we all make it onto the train. Blake sits down beside
Rowan.
Luca sits on the opposite side beside Vivienne. She looks up at him with an annoyed look before looking back down and going on her phone.
I look around, trying to find an open seat but only see one. I walk towards it, but before I can get there, Leo sits down in it.
I Watch him as He leans back in the seat and pulls out his phone from his pocket "did you want to sit?
I slowly walk over to the side and hold onto the metal pole "it doesn't matter."
"Okay," he looks back down at his phone, texting someone.
"Can you tell us where we're going" Blake speaks up, causing everyone to look at her
"I don't know, " Rowan says.

I look at Rowan with wide eyes "what do you mean? You don't know."
"It means that I don't know."
Leo looks at Rowan and sets his phone down "so you forced all of us here, but you don't know where you're taking us."
"Well yeah," Rowan shrugs.
I let go of the pole to grab something from my pocket, but the subway comes to a quick stop. I stumble over a bit until someone grabs my waist to keep me from falling
"Are you okay" Leo questions as he looks straight into my eyes, I cough a bit before I lean back up "yeah."
Leo coughs as well while he stands up from the seat "when you were about to fall, your face looked like you were a deer about to get hit."
"Why are you standing up," I ask, completely ignoring his previous comment. a deer? seriously?
He looks over to the empty seat. "I want to, and so you can sit down." I stare into his eyes for a second, trying to see if he's joking or not.
"I don't want you to fall because then I'll have to catch you again; it's annoying," he adds.
I nod and sit down.
-
"Why the fuck are we breaking into an art gallery at-" I look down at my phone to check the time "1 am".
Rowan looks up from the keypad. "Calm down; it's my moms."
"How does that make it any better."
Rowan ignores me and turns back to the lock pressing different numbers. The lock sends out noise, and a green light flickers on, "it's done."
Rowan walks in with Luca and Blake while; Vivienne and Leo follow behind.
It's pitch black.
I grab my phone out of my pocket and turn on the flash; the second I do, the lights turn on.
We're standing in front of a large staircase.
"Let's do something," Rowan responds, walking up the large stairs.
We all follow behind him, but he stops abruptly and turns around "don't break anything; my mom will kill me."
Rowan turns on the lights
There's painting along the walls and different statues in front of them.
I walk over to one of the paintings making sure to keep my distance; I look over it, noticing the fine details; I look in the corner of it and see numbers on it.

Holy shit.
It's over 300 years old.
I hear the sound of a door closing, but I ignore it. Instead, I walk over to each panting in the room, looking at them individually, noticing all the fine details.
God, I wish I could paint.
I feel someone tap my shoulder; I look over and see Leo staring at me
"You've been staring at the paintings for over half an hour."
My eyes widen.
"Yeah," he responds.
I look around and notice Rowan sleeping on one of the couches "why is Rowan sleeping."
Leo looks over to the couch and looks back at me. "Oh, he's done this before; it's normal."
"Won't his-" I get cut off.
"Mom yell at him?"
I nod.
Leo shakes his head "there's a penthouse above the gallery; as long as he goes up there before opening, she doesn't care."
"Oh, okay"
I look around once again and notice that it's just us in here plus Rowan.
"Where are the others" I question.
Leo moves over to one of the empty walls and leans on it "they're already at the penthouse."
"so are we supposed to-"
Leo lets out a laugh "go up there?".
"Yeah," I move beside him, leaning against the wall.
"We can, but we don't have to" he looks at me.
His eyes linger on me for a second, but he looks away as I turn to look at him.
Leo leans off the wall "let's go somewhere."
I smile and lean off the wall as well "okay."
-
"What are we doing here" I question as Leo grabs my arm, pulling me onto a bridge.
"Just follow me," Leo says.
He lets go of my arm and hops over the bridge's railing sitting over the ledge while his legs dangle off.
Leo looks at me and uses his hand to signal me to go over to him.
I look at Leo with wide eyes. "I'm not going there; I'll die"
He shakes his head and laughs, "you won't die, trust me."
"If I do, it's your fault," I respond while carefully jumping over the railing.
Leo puts out his hand and grabs mine, helping me sit down "see, you didn't die."
I ignore his comment and lookup. "Holy shit."
Leo laughs. "I know."
Just from sitting here, I can see thousands of lights, streets, and buildings, yet it's surprisingly quiet.
No sound of cars, no people honking, no yelling
Nothing.
I look at Leo "how'd you find this place."
"I was drunk, decided to go on a walk, and found this place," Leo let's out, but it almost sounds like it hurts for him him to say.
"What's your favorite color "I decide to change the topic
He looks at me with a small smile "what."
"I've been at the school for more than a month, and we've hung out multiple times, yet I don't know the basics about you."
He sighs "purple, I guess; what's yours."
"Red or white; what's your favorite food."
"Pasta, what's yours."
"Same," I respond
"What's your favorite drink" he questions.
"Tea, what's your favorite book."
"Don't have one; why did you move to Vancouver."
I look at him with wide eyes
"I'm sorry-"
I cut him off. "it's fine, and I don't know why; it was my dad who forced me to come here."
Leo stares into my eyes "do you miss Toronto."
"not as much as I thought I would" I force myself to look away from Leo and back to the lights
Leo nods in understanding.
"When did you get sent to boarding school" I question
He tenses up beside me, "9th grade."
"what's your dream job" he aman
"I don't know, what about you."
"I don't know " he lets out a low laugh and moves closer to me.
Our arms are touching.
"What's your favourite ice cream flavour, this one's important" I ask and turn to look at him.
"Chocolate, what's yours" he smiles
"cookies and cream, chocolate ice cream is disgusting."
I feel Leo inch a little closer to me by the second.
Our thighs are now touching.
suddenly a phone rings
I glance down at my phone and see it's not mine "it's yours"
Leo checks his phone and holds it up "it's Rowan; we should go back."

A companion book to Instrumental, can be read as its own story but I think really works best after reading the first book.
