The year is 2030, the date being June 18th and the time being 5:40 PM. Technology and science have changed dramatically over the last ten years, with humanity recently being very willing to try and experiment with new and exciting things and helping create breakthroughs, and not to mention, humanity has also just fully recovered and gotten over a horrible pandemic that started in early 2020. We're basically living in a decade of great and tremendous curiosity and excitement. It may not seem like it, but we're (kinda) willing to see what treasures and breakthroughs are in stock for us in the near and even far future.

And there I was, patiently waiting in the lobby for my name to be called, along with a few other people.

Wait a minute...

I forgot the backstory.

Shit. How am I going to explain this?

*Sigh*

Well, here we go.

About a year and a half ago I signed up for this group called "The Experimental Service." It's a group where you are basically a test subject (horrible, I know) and you can attend and participate in any new experiments. It's basically just civilians helping out the scientists via participating in experiments to help speed up research and stuff like that in a nutshell. But signing up for this group isn't in ANY way shape or form an easy task. You can't be on any medication, you can't be allergic to anything, you can't have any medical conditions (this also includes certain past medical events), you have to be in a certain age group (a minimum of 21 and a maximum of 45 years of age to be exact), you can't have a criminal record, all of your five senses have to be in tip-top condition, you have to be willing to partake in these experiments, you probably get the gist. And if you are somehow able to get accepted into the "Experimental Service," you would have to answer a truckload of questions; approximately one hundred seventy-nine questions to be exact. And if you thought that being eligible for the Experimental Service background-wise was hard enough, those 179 questions aren't in any way less forgiving, as they also determine if you are eligible for the Experimental Service or not. AND if you thought that answering nearly two hundred questions was excruciating enough, it takes up to three months to receive that anticipating email saying that if you are verified or not for the Experimental Service. Finally, to top it all off, you would have to sign a contract saying that you would not share online any sensitive information that has to do with the Experimental Service, as doing so could cause you to get into some pretty bad and serious trouble. Oh, and did I mention that participating in experiments for the Experimental Service is very risky? Well no der it's risky; you don't know if the experiment you're partaking in could have an unwanted result, or worse, mess up your body in a certain way big time. But guess fricking what? I'm doing it because I know I'm helping out humanity.

Time for some more recent backstory.

About a month ago I received an email from the Experimental Service saying that there is a new experiment that required ten people to partake in. The experiment in question was to test an experimental serum that can (possibly) transform a human into either a cat or a dog. Me along with five hundred other members volunteered to participate in this experiment. A week later ten out of the five hundred that volunteered were chosen. I was given number seven as my test subject number. The ten of us were then informed via email saying that this experiment would last for a few days at maximum, so it is required to bring some clothes and other overnight necessities. We were also given the date of the experiment, not to mention.

I believe that's everything I have to say.

Now back to reality.

Hold on a second, where were we?

Oh yeah.

I was in the lobby, waiting for either my name or test subject number to be called. While I was waiting, I was playing an offline racing game on my phone, not paying more attention to anything else other than the game I was playing. I was both nervous and kinda hyped-up at the same time about this experiment. Being both nervous and hyped-up at the same time is such a surreal feeling, and there are only a few things and experiences on planet Earth that give you those two feelings simultaneously. Suddenly, the lobby door opens. It was one of the scientists working at the Experimental Service.

"Test subject number seven, please follow me." The scientist said.

"Ah shit. Here we go." I softly sighed to myself as I grabbed my stuff and followed the scientist towards the room where they'll inject the experimental serum.

A little while later, I arrived at the room where I'll be injected. The room had dead, boring white walls, a chair for doing injections, a table beside the chair, and a few other scientists who were waiting for me. They all were talking their heads off about science stuff and other future experiments, in which I didn't bother to make out and make sense of. I then sat down in the chair provided. The scientists then asked me which arm I wanted the serum to be injected into. I chose my left arm since that is the arm I always chose for bloodwork in the past when I was younger. I saw the syringe on the table beside me, and the serum inside had a bluish tinge to it. The scientists then tied some sort of bluish-grey rubber thing on my arm that is used for locating a vein, located a vein on my arm, and rubbed an alcohol prep pad on the spot where they will put the needle in, which made the area have that weird cooling sensation. The scientists then picked up the syringe filled with the serum, and slowly inserted the needle into my vein, with me wincing a little when the needle poked into my skin. Then they started to inject the serum into my vein, the pale blue serum slowly exiting the syringe and into my bloodstream.

"Um... If I ever start turning into a cat or dog, is the transformation painless?" I asked one of the scientists.

"It should be." One of the scientists replied.

"Should be."

Well hopefully I'm not in for a world of pain if I ever start transforming.

After a few seconds, all the pale blue serum in the syringe has now been injected into my bloodstream. They then removed the rubber thing off my arm, took out the needle and put a bandage on the injection site so no blood would leak from me and onto the floor. I was then lead by the scientist who called my test subject number to where I will be staying for a few days.

A few moments of walking later I have arrived at where I will be staying so the scientists can monitor me. The place in question looked like something designed for a human to stay for a few days, pretty much like a hotel room. The place had white walls, white LED lights for lighting, soft beige carpeting for floors, a luxurious living room with a big 4K curved widescreen TV and a plush looking couch with a black wooden table, a very small yet futuristic kitchen, a very nice looking bathroom, and a very comfy bedroom with a king-sized white bed, complete with a modern nightstand and a medium-sized 4K flatscreen TV, also complete with a PlayStation, an Xbox, and a DVR. The place was also complete with that pleasant new house smell. The scientist then informed me that there was wifi if I ever needed to use the internet and that there was a menu if I ever needed a bite to eat or a drink to sip. He also informed me that there are a few cameras present so they can monitor me for safety reasons, which was perfectly ay-ok with me. He lastly informed me that if I was ever awake when the transformation happens, there was no need to freak out.

The scientist then wished me luck and even wished me for my safety and well-being before he then left to go call the other participants. I then went to the bedroom, put down my stuff next to the comfy bed, laid down on the plush bed on my back, and then just blankly stared at the lifeless white ceiling for what felt like an eternity slowly yet painfully crawling by. Just as I was about to question my existence hardcore, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket repeatedly. I got my phone out of my pocket to see what was going on.

My mom was calling.

I'm guessing she's a little worried about me.

You know how mothers can be.

I answered the phone.

Me > "Hello?"

Mom > "Hi son! How's the experiment going for you?"

Me > "I just got the serum injected into me a few minutes ago."

Mom > "Oh ok. I called because I wanted to talk to you before anything happened to you."

Me > "Fair enough."

Mom > "How are you feeling currently?"

Me > "I'm feeling normal so far. I, of course, didn't get any side effects just yet, it doesn't happen that fast."

Mom > "I'm glad to hear."

Me > "I figured that you called because you probably were a little worried about me."

Mom > "I am a little worried also; you know how I get sometimes."

Me > "That is perfectly understandable. By the way, how are things going on your end?"

Mom > "I'm doing just fine, thanks for asking."

Me > "I'm very thankful to hear that."

Mom > "You should be. Anyways, I gotta go, I have a doctor's appointment soon."

Me > "It was nice talking with you."

Mom > "Love you little munchkin."

Me > " Love you too. Bye."

I then hung up the phone, and put my phone back into my pocket. I then decided to play some Xbox to pass the time. I started up the Xbox, turned on the TV, grabbed a controller, and started looking for a game to play. When I checked to see what games were available, I was shocked to see that there were a whole plethora of games to choose from. Games like Roblox, Forza, Minecraft, Fortnite, WWE, Rocket League, you name it. I decided to play some Forza as my game of choice since I'm a huge car buff and I'm really into racing games. Forza is one of those game franchises that not too many people play nor have heard or let alone know about. It's a bit of a shame that it's the unfortunate reality of Forza, but Forza has an amazing community to make up for that. I continued to play some Forza until bedtime rolls around.

~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------
It was now nighttime, and I was still playing Forza, not giving a single care in the world. I paused my game to check the time, and it was now 9:35 PM. I decided to take a break from playing so much Xbox and to go get ready for bed for when bedtime arrives. I put on some comfy nightclothes, plugged in my phone, went to the bathroom, and brushed my teeth.
But as I was brushing my teeth, I started to feel very tired and drowsy for some odd reason. I ignored it thinking it was probably because I had such a long day and I did a lot of other stuff before I went to the Experimental Service for the experiment I was attending.
Once I finished brushing my teeth, I then went to the bedroom and laid back down on the hyper-plush bed to play some more Xbox, but something in me just said "No, no more. I'm done." I don't blame myself; I'm getting pretty damn tired. I decided to just sleep the night away while I was still tired so I can get a good night's sleep since I didn't have a very good sleep in a few days. I slowly got out of my bed, tiredly went over to the Xbox, turned off the Xbox console, put the Xbox controller back onto its charging stand, lazily turned off the TV, and got my slumberous self back onto my snow-white bed. But I forgot something.
I forgot to turn off the lights.
I was already laying down and I was too lazy and lethargic to get back up, so I tried something that I had no idea would work.
"Turn off all the lights, please?" I said aloud in a sluggish and lifeless voice as I got myself comfy and cozy under the cloud-like sheets, not knowing if there were any voice-activated things let alone any voice-activation.
To my surprise, all the lights turned off, followed by a robotic voice saying "As you wish."
"Thank you." I heavily sighed a massive sigh as I closed my eyes and immediately began to drift off.
"Anytime." The robotic voice replied.
It didn't take very long for me to fall asleep and catch those much wanted Z's. To be honest, I never in such a long time fell into a slumber that quickly.
But hey, at the end of the day, it's just another night of sleep.
~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------

I slowly yet surely began to wake up, but I still felt very tired and languorous. My body felt very limp and not willing to move for some abnormal reason. I attempted to stretch, but my body refused, so I kept on working my muscles, and after a while or two I finally felt my limbs begin to move more and more willingly.

After what felt like an hour slowly drifting by, I can now move my limbs freely but in a somewhat drowsy fashion. I then stretched an extremely powerful and much-needed stretch, groaning a little as I vigorously stretched. I lazily grabbed my phone on my nightstand, almost dropping it (that wouldn't have been very good would it?) and drowsily looked at the time.

12:30 PM the time showed.

"Was I THAT freaking tired?" I spoke to myself with my head tilted in confusion.

"I do not like waking up this late," I slowly said as I left the nice warm comfort of my bed, and got dressed in some daytime clothes.

I went to the bathroom, the off-white tiles making the bottom of my feet feel colder, and blankly looked into the mirror, seeing my reflection. My hair was in a bit of a mess I gotta say. I wetted my hair a little and got it all shaped and tidied back up. Back into the bedroom I went to go order something to eat since I was getting pretty hungry and a little thirsty.

The menu looked very and I mean VERY appetizing. The hash browns and bacon caught my eye, so I decided to order a dish of it. Now for a drink. I don't really like coffee as something to wake me up, so I decided to order an iced sweet tea instead.

A little while later, my food and drink arrived. It came through a slot in the door, which kinda reminded me a bit like how they would in prison, but hey, it didn't bother me. I then slowly ate the bacon and hash browns and chugged on my iced tea.

Finished in a matter of a minute.

"That iced tea should wake me up..." I slowly thought to myself.

I was now no longer hungry or thirsty. I then decided to see what television channels there were, so I turned on the living room TV and started looking for a channel to watch whilst looking at the TV channel sheet that had all the numbers for the channels provided. I chose the Science Channel since my favorite program on that channel was How It's Made. Its basically just a program showing the watcher, well, how things are made. I find it entertaining yet very educational. I continued to watch the Science Channel until I decided that I had enough. Keep in mind I was still feeling tired and sluggish, but expect the iced tea to help wake me up more and make me more alert sometime soon.

~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------~~~~~~~~~---------
It has been at least five to six hours since I turned on the television to watch the Science Channel, taking breaks that lasted for a few minutes every once in a while. I was still feeling tired and lethargic, which surprised me because I always become more awake whenever I have iced tea. Strange huh?
Suddenly, while I continued watching television, I started to feel burning hot, and I began sweating bullets. I figured that it was just the room becoming hot. But wait, how would a room all of a sudden start feeling super hot within a matter of seconds? I didn't bother to think that thought through and went to the bathroom to go splash some cold water onto my face. I turned on the bathroom faucet and started splashing cold water onto my sweaty face.
It felt really refreshing and comforting, and my body started feeling back to normal temperatures, but then I started to feel very dizzy and my head began to feel lighter than a feather.
What the hell is going on?!
I decided that I had splashed enough water onto my face, so I turned off the faucet and dried my face off with the soft white bathroom towels.
"I'm such a fucking mess," I softly said to myself with my hands on my face as I attempted to make my way back to the living room couch with my head feeling as if it was spinning like a top.
As I made my way back to the living room, my legs began to buckle as they became weak and I, unfortunately, began to become more tired and drowsy, and my hands started to feel somewhat numb. I started to internally panic as I did not know a single thing that was going on with myself nor what's causing this to happen. I stumbled my way to the TV and turned it off, and clumsily stumbled to my bedroom like a drunken person who had too much vodka on a Friday night, in which I almost tripped on myself and nearly fell forwards onto the soft beige carpet. I felt as if I was going to pass out at any given moment as I began to feel scalding hot again.
After a little while I made it to my bedroom, with my entire body feeling a little limp and ready to give out. I climbed onto the soft white bed and rolled over onto my back while breathing pretty heavily. I was hot and sweaty, I felt extremely tired and not willing to move, I was lightheaded and dizzy, and I felt as if I was going to pass out hard.
Yup, I'm a disaster.
My heart sunk as the thought of me possibly dying crossed my mind. There was nothing I could do in this scary yet troublesome situation except to just lay down and wait for myself to either slowly die or pass out. I was so scared that something bad was going to happen to me, and I started to heavily regret participating in this experiment.
This is what I was talking about earlier.
