Marty anxiously watched as the penguins filled a cannon with dynamite and Stefano prepared to get inside.
"Come on, Maurice, give it to me! More boomstick, Rico! I really want to fly!" Stefano exclaimed.
"Are you really going to shoot yourself out of that thing?" Marty asked.
"I've always dreamed of doing this, from time I was a little pup, to be a human cannonball!" Stefano said, got in the cannon, then corrected, "Except, you know, a sea lion cannonball."
"Is it dangerous?" Marty wondered.
"'Is it dangerous?' Yes, of course it's dangerous!" Stefano answered then Rico put a stick of dynamite in his mouth.
"Now, are you sure about this?" Marty double-checked.
"I'm sure," Stefano nodded as the cannon was being aimed.
"'Cause if blowing up is your thing, then you in the right place," Marty pointed out.
"Sí. That's means yes!" Stefano said again.
"Ready for launch?" Skipper asked.
"Ready for launch!" Stefano answered.
"Fire in the hole!" Skipper called, striking a match on Private's butt.
They lit the fuse and Stefano, realizing the dangers, spit the dynamite out of his mouth.
"Wait!" Stefano exclaimed.
But it fired and he sailed past the cushioned target into the side of a cliff. He ended up dangling from it and held on for dear life.
"Mamma mia! Help me!" Stefano cried.
In response, Marty quickly grabbed a helmet and some rope.
"Rico! Get the cannon ready! Same charge!" Marty said.
It was done and Marty was ready to be launched.
"Fire in the hole!" Skipper called, lighting the match on Private's bottom again then lit the fuse.
Marty was then fired through the air and sailed through the clouds.
"All right! Yeah!" Marty cheered.

He made his outline, a heart, and a smiley face before crashing onto the side of the mountain.
"Marty! I'm so glad you're here," Stefano said.
"I was flying! I was effin'-L-Y-in'!" Marty exclaimed excitedly.
"I'm proud of you, but I don't think I can hold on much longer!" Stefano replied, struggling to hold on.
"Oh, yeah, right. Sorry about my enthusiasm," Marty apologized, put his hoof in a crack in the cliff, then hung upside down as he instructed, "Here, wrap this around you."
He lowered some rope to him and Stefano wrapped himself in a loop. Then Marty slowly lowered him to the ground.
"All right, I got you! I got you!" Marty assured.
Once Stefano was safely down, Marty used the rope to run down the side of the mountain to join him.
"Forget about being part of the herd! I'm gonna be part of the flock! I'm going to fly, baby!" Marty cheered.
"Oh, yes! What a triumph!" Stefano did the same as they hugged then headed back.

Tales from the Triverse
Tales from the Triverse is part detective drama, part fantasy adventure and part space opera. I’m influenced by the likes of Iain M Banks, Isaac Asimov and ND Stevenson and work including The Wire and Gotham Central. It begins with an incident two hundred years ago which crashed three parallel universes together. Portals open up in 18th century London, sending England down a very different path. We pick up events in the 1970s, with the Metropolitan Police having established a new department to handle portal-related criminal activity. The story is about intolerance, immigration, multiculturalism and power. It’s about what happens when incompatible viewpoints are weaponised to seed discontent, and the efforts of some to create a fairer world. In the tradition of the best science fiction, fantasy and crime fiction, I’m using the setting to examine themes that matter to me in the real world. Who is it for?If you like science fiction or fantasy, or a mix of both, this is for you. It’s my first foray into crime fiction, but I hope if you’re a fan that you’ll enjoy yourself - especially if you’re looking for something a bit different. I write fiction that is optimistic, progressive and empathetic. Bad things can happen to good people in the stories, but the overall arc tends to be hopeful. Note that if it were a movie, Tales from the Triverse would be a 15 certificate in the UK.
