Y/N POV:
Dodger told a story about a beast that attacked while getting dinner. I'm half sleeping in my bed and internally rolling my eyes at the dramatic and overdone story. Suddenly a cat walks in.... or, a kitten, more like it.
-H-hello? He says. Tito immediately starts barking up and everyone turns hostile. This makes me perk up and watch them.
-How did you find us, cat? Rita asks and growls.
-I-I just, I- we don't like cats, Francis interrupts.
-Yeah! We eat them for dinner man! Tito adds. They back him into a corner, everyone baring their teeth. Except for Dodger. They almost graze a hair on his head, when I finally decide to interrupt.
-Hey! Back off! I say and stand up, walking towards them. When they don't, I growl at them, showing them my teeth.
-I said; back. Off. Of him, I say clearly. Rita, Francis and Einstein backs off, head low. Tito stands left.
-Mother's instincts already kicking in huh? Tito asks and laughs. Oh yeah, forgot to mention... I'm pregnant and I could give birth any day or week now.
I roll my eyes at Tito and shove him into a box.
-Hey! I can hear him protest. I lean down to the cat.
-Hey little guy... how did you end up here? I ask keeping my safe distance, hiding him with my body from the others. Just in case, we are dogs after all.
-I-I just followed him here... he promised to share his food if I helped him, he says and looks at Dodger. I do too. He nonchalantly walks away and sits in the sofa, with a pair of sunglasses.
-Oh hohohoho, so a cat is what attacked you? Francis mocks.
-Yeah, Boss scared of a little cat? Was the roar more like: mau? Tito taunts.
-Shut it Tito, Dodger says and shoves Tito in the face. I sigh and look back at the cat.
-And what's your name? I ask.
-Oliver, he says quietly.
-Ok Oliver. You can share with me, c'mon, I say. Since I'm pregnant, Fagin, our human, and the others has tried scraping up any extra food for me, since I'm eating for about 6.
-I don't know how much you like dog food, but... here you go, I say and show him and opened and unfinished can of dog food that Fagin opened this morning. He smiles and quickly hops over to the can and happily eats. I then walk to Dodger.
-What were you thinking? We have enough mouths to feed here, I say disappointed.
-Then you shouldn't given him your food, Dodger says and hops out of the chair and walks to the other side of the room. I follow him with my eyes.
-He's a hungry kid, Dodger. I couldn't just let him starve, I say, defending myself.
-Giving him food was my choice to make, but I only made that choice because you promised him food, I scold. Dodger stops and sighs.
-Oooo! He's getting owned by the wife again! Tito says.

Oh yeah, the children I'm carrying? They're mine and Dodgers. Probably already knew from the tension, huh?
-Listen Y/N, that wasn't my intention. I just thought that I could finally get enough food for us, Dodger says and turn to me. Oliver comes out of the corner of food, happily licking his nose.
I sigh and hang my head. I can feel the babies moving around in my tummy. Dodger walks over to me and nudges my head.
-It was a mistake, ok? Wont happen again, he says. I smile.
Suddenly we hear steps and something shaking.
-I'm back guys! And look what I brou- It's Fagin. And he gets quickly interrupted by 5 excited dogs. Of course, it was because he had a box of dog treats with him. My tails starts wagging and I happily trot over to him as everyone clears up.
-Hey there gorgeous! Has everyone been kind to you today? Fagin asks as he scratches me under my chin. I bark as a yes.
-Good girl. Here you go, Fagin says and gives me two treats. My tail starts wagging faster.
A car horn is honking.... Sykes... he's here. I drop my treats in the ground.
Fagin starts crawling in the floor, muttering and shouting that he's on his way. I quickly guide Oliver to a hidden corner and lay in front of it, so he can't be seen by Roscoe and Desoto.
-I hope you guys found something, now let's see what you got, he says and looks at all the junk in the trunk, literally.
-It's worthless! What have you done? Oh I'm done for, how am I supposed to pay him back with... a glass bottle? Fagin scolds sadly. Everyone lowers their heads. Suddenly growling is heard and Roscoe and Desoto has made their way inside, growling at Fagin.
-Hah, hey guys! Look who's here kids, company! Nice doggies... Fagin says and tries to pet Desoto, who immediately goes for Fagins fingers.
-I'm just on my way out, Fagin says and runs out. Roscoe chuckles evilly.
-Did you guys miss us? He asks. Oliver peeks out from behind me.
-You know Rita, I don't understand why you hang out here, when you could live uptown, with a class act, like myself, Roscoe sweet talks. Rita glares at him.
-Mmmhmmm... She says as Desoto searches the place. He sniffs every nook and cranny.
-It's very dangerous to use ones entire vocabulary in one single sentence, Francis roasts Roscoe.
-Ey, you got him man, show him! Tito hypes.
-What did you say, fat boy? Roscoe gets into Francis face.
-Don't call him fat boy! I defend from my corner. Roscoe turns to me and his evil smirk appears again.
-Ah, Y/N. How's the pregnancy? He asks as I glare at him.
-About as good as your temperament, I say. Roscoe growls and starts walking towards me.
-Hey Roscoe, Roscoe, is this us loosing our humor? Dodger takes the attention from me and towards him.
-I'm not loosing my sense of humor, Roscoe says and kicks the tv into the wall, breaking it into a million pieces. My babies seems to understand that I'm anxious, so they move more. Roscoe laughs.

-I thought that was very funny, Roscoe says.
-Yeah, what a laugh fest. Are you done? I ask irritated and wanting them to be gone. Roscoe frowns at me.
-Ladies should learn how to handle their emotions, he says through gritted teeth, baring his teeth to me, me doing the same. I feel Desoto coming awfully close to me, so I bark at him. He glares intensely at me, before moving on.
-Leave her alone Roscoe, Rita says.
-Or what? Are you afraid of the babies health? So sweet of you, Roscoe says to them before biting at me. I immediately bark back, standing up making him back up scared, before playing it off. He chuckles evilly once again. The car horn can be heard once again and Roscoe perks up.
-Hey Roscoe! Look what I found! Desoto says as he finds Oliver that was hiding behind me.
I immediately stand in front of him.
-Back off Desoto, I warn as the dobermans come closer to me.
-Forget it Desoto, we have to go, Roscoe says.
-I like cats, Desoto says and lowers his head to look under me.
-I like to eat em! He continues as he peeks in further. Oliver suddenly jumps out and claws Desoto on the nose. Desoto immediately flies up in pain, sending me flying, but luckily landing on my side. Oliver quickly hides behind me again. I shake it off, as it wasn't too bad of a landing. Roscoe and Desoto corners me once again. But this time, Dodger steps in the way.
-Out of my way Dodger, Roscoe says angrily.
-That's enough Roscoe, Dodger growls and the other form a wall between me and the dobermans. They all growl at each other, before the car horn honks once more.
-Run along Roscoe. Your masters calling, Rita taunts. The dobermans growl some more before it honks again, and they finally leave. But before they get out of the door, Roscoe turns back to us.
-We're not finished here Dodger, you're gonna have to pay for this... Maybe with one of your unborn sons, he says and laughs, before they finally leave. Tito then of course starts playing cool again as they're gone. Dodger turns to me.
-Are you ok? Are the babies hurt? He asks. I stand up shakily.
-No, the babies are ok, I say as they all move like usual.
-And you? Dodger is looking for eye contact. We lock eyes and I kiss his cheek.
-I'm alright, I reassure. Then I look back at Oliver, who's peeking out from behind my leg.
-He maybe was a scary beats after all, huh? I say as Oliver looks around.
Fagin comes back inside, absolutely drenched and shoves off his coat.
-Three says, he says and whimpers. He sits down in the sofa and throws off his shoes.
Me and Dodger share a look, before we walk over to him.
-How am I ever going to get a hold of all that money? Fagin says sadly and whimpers again.
Dodger and Einstein puts his feet up into a footstool. Rita gets a blanket and Tito puts on Fagin his slippers. I get a dog treat and feed it to him, which he munches on. We all stare at him as he swallows the treat and smiles.
-Thanks guys, he says and Einstein gives him a big lick on the chin.
-By the way, I saw Desoto's nose. Who did that? Fagin asks. I bite Oliver by the neck and puts him on Fagins lap.
-Oh well what do we have here? Fagin asks and takes him carefully in his hands. It has now become my duty to take care of the kitten, so I put my front paws in the arm rest of the sofa.
-You! You, Fagin says and laughs as Oliver purrs up to his cheek.
-That took a lot of guts. We've never had a cat in the company before... Fagin says and scratches Oliver under the chin.
-We can use all the help we can get, Fagin says. I whimper for him to put Oliver down. Fagin looks down at me.
-Ah, I see. Mama dog taking care of the under dog, Fagin says and puts Oliver down in front of me.
-Good job, he praises. I lick Oliver's cheek and he smiles gratefully. Then Fagin stretches loudly.
-Ok, time for bed, we got a long day tomorrow, he says. I walk to my bed again, laying comfortably, seeing that Rita does the same. Einstein goes and gets a book.
-No, no not tonight Einstein, Fagin says, making Einstein whimper sadly.
-Oh ok, give it to me, Fagin gives up and I giggle. Dodger looks at me and smiles. I smile back. Oliver sits next to Dodger, trying to sit exactly the same. Tito and Francis fixes the lights and Dodger picks Oliver up and puts him back into Fagins lap, and leans his head in the arm rest as Fagin begins to read.
Everyone finally falls asleep at the end of the chapter, and I watch as Dodger turns off the light. He smiles warmly at me as he tiredly walks to my bed and makes it comfortable for him, and he lays down behind me.
-Goodnight sweetheart, he says in his voice that I fell in love with. He snuggles up with his head on my stomach since that's been his only way to sleep for the past week. I almost fall asleep immediately when I close my eyes. Then suddenly I feel something on my stomach.
Oliver crawls up beside me and purrs as he feels the babies kick at his touch. He falls asleep immediately. I share a look with Dodger, and I smile, before I take a final look over my family before I finally fall asleep.

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
