Y/N POV
I rest my foot on an footstool as I read one of many Spanish magazines I brought with me to America. Dad is sitting in the couch beside me and reading the daily news.
Suddenly someone knocks on the door. I immediately look up from my magazine as dad stands up and opens the door. There stands Bernardo. They talk quietly, so I can barely make out what they're talking about. My dad hugs Bernardo before Bernardo walks away and dad closes the door.
-What's going on papa? I ask. He turns to me
-Bernardo is going to a rumble under the bridge with the Americans.... and i let him go... he says.
-What!? Why would you do that? Someone is going to get hurt, I say, standing up from the armchair and limping towards the door. I know Bernardo and his anger issues, something is going to go very wrong.
-Where are you going young lady? Dad asks.
-I'm going to make sure nobody gets hurt! I say and leave the apartment. I'm mostly making sure that Bernardo doesn't hurt Riff. Who knows what boys do in fights.
My limp has slowed me down immensely, but at last I can see the bridge in front of me. I pick up some speed and I walk down a small hill to get under the bridge. The more i walk, the more I can see the boys behind a fence. They're jumping around like chickens. I purse my lips and I carefully climb over the fence, carefully climbing down before landing on the asphalt below. None of the boys notices me, so I stand perfectly still, watching the fight from behind them. I see how Tony tries to mend things between them, but Bernardo pushes him around and hits him. As they get closer to the other Jets, I see how Roff gets ready to pounce... and punches Bernardo in the face!

They start circling each other... the tension builds as everyone draws closer, and I struggle to see. But I can see clearly enough to see them both reach into their back pockets for their knives, and I will not tolerate any knife violence.
-Stop! I shoutout and try to make my way through the boys, who only now notices me.
-Y/N? What are you doing here? Go back home, your leg is hurt! Bernardo shouts at me with his knife in his hand. Riff looks at me and stands up, putting away his knife. Bernardo notices my gaze at the American, and I could see fumes escape his head.
-You American coward, he says and pushes the button on his knife, making the blade pop out. I run in between them, standing in front of them both.
-no... I say, protecting Riff.
-"No".... No? Why not? Bernardo angrily asks.
I see from the corner of my eye that Riff comes and stands next to me. His hand is brushing against mine, making butterflies warrior in my stomach and my face turn red. Bernardo looks between the both of us and stands up, also putting away his knife.
-I may never accept... this... he says and points at us.
-But I will tolerate it... he continues and walks up to Riff, holding out his hand. Riff takes it and firmly shake Bernardos hand.
-if you hurt her, I'll make sure there is a special place for you in hell... Bernardo threatens. Riff looks shocked at me and I shake my head, smiling secretly at Riff. Bernardo nods sternly before walking away, the rest of the sharks following.
-Thank you Y/N, Tony thanks me. I smile and nod at him.
-Anytime... I say. Tony nods as the other jets engulf him in a big bear hug. I laugh and look back at Riff, who smiles wholeheartedly at me.

-It's quite the family you got there... I say. Riff grabs my hands and kisses them.
-One day, I hope you'll be able to be a part of it. And I'll be a part of yours, he says insecure. I bite my lip nod.
-One day mi amor, one day, I say. Riff chuckles and we lean in for a long, loving kiss. When we part I can hear the jets 'ooh' and whistle.
-Oh shut your pie holes! Riff scolds them, making them laugh.
-I'll better get home, before dad calls the police, I say and begin walking away, but the running hurt my ankle even further.
-Hey, let me walk ya home? Riff says, putting a hand on my waist, holding me for support. I smile even bigger, if that was even possible.
He walked all the way through the Puerto Rican territory, up all those stairs and outside my apartment door.
-Well... this is where we say goodbye until next time... I say sadly.
-I don't wanna leave... not yet, Riff says, leaning closer to me. But before our lips could meet, my father has opened the door and are smirking at us.
-So here you two lovebirds are, he says. I laugh at Riff's scared look at my father.
-Hola papa, I say and Riff lets me go.
-H-Hello sir, Riff says nervously.
-Drop That nonsense! Call me D/N! Dad says and pats Riff roughly on the shoulder.
-Alrighty then D/N, Riff says. A silence sets and dad walks into the apartment, letting us part ways.
-I'll see you tomorrow... Riff says, smiling brightly.
-I sure hope so, I say and he chuckles.
-I believe I've found the love of my life, Riff says proudly.
-And I've found mine... I say and lean up to kiss his cheek.
-See you tomorrow, I say before closing the door behind me, leaving a dazed Riff on the other side.
I walk to the armchair once again and I start reading my magazine again.
After only a couple of moments, I hear someone knocking on the window. I quickly look up and see Riff standing outside. I rise from my armchair and open the window.
-I thought we said tomorrow? I say teasingly. Riff climbs through the window.
-I couldn't wait that long... he says and grabs my hand again.
-... I'm just too happy right now, he continues.
-lovebirds! Dad yells from his room.
-Oh hush you, I say and Riff laughs.
-Well... I guess I have to go now... He then says sadly and drops my hand. As he turns around I grab his hand and he meets my gaze.
-Stay... just for tonight..? I say. He smiles softly at me.
-Of course, mi amor, Roff says in a ridiculous American accent. He leads me to the couch and he sits down, laying me against his chest and picking up the magazine from the armchair beside us.
-Read to me in your beautiful words... he says and hands me it. I giggle and start reading.
The rest of the night was spent reading an old Spanish magazine, and Riff asking what everything meant and me happily explaining it to him.
The rest of our long lives were spent together, merging our families and creating one of our own. Nothing in this world made me happier than to be with the love of my life... Te amo Riff...
