Y/N POV
I was sitting next to Snotlout in the school cafeteria, as he sat talking with his friends. I don't talk, so I mostly just sit and listen. I always wondered why he kept me around, but he said that he likes my company, so it's a thing. Wherever he is, I am there too. And wherever I am, he's there with me. He was the talker of us two.
-Don't you Y/N? I hear. I look up and shake off my thoughts. Snotlout was looking proudly at me. I grimaced, showing that I didn't hear what he said.
-That you're amazing at drawing, Snotlout says again. I smiled and nodded.
-Oh really? What kind of thing do you draw? Fishlegs asks. I turn around to pick up my sketchbook from my school bag.
-Obviously she draws me, Snotlout says. I slap his arm as I turn back to them and open my favorite page.
-Ow! Snotlout says. The leader of the group, Hiccup, smiles.
-That's amazing! Fishlegs says and grabs the sketchbook from my grasp. I "laugh" to myself and smiles. What I had drawn was everyone's pets.
Hiccups dog; Toothless, with half his mouth, well, Toothless. Astrid's cat stormfly, the twins' two headed snake, Fishlegs bird and Snotlout's lizard.
Snotlout grabs the sketchbook from fishlegs and frowns. He gives the sketchbook back to me.
-I thought you said that the drawing of me on Halloween last year was your favorite, he says. I roll my eyes and smile at him.
-Well, I should be getting home, Hiccup says and swings his bag over his shoulder.
-Yeah me too. Hey Y/N, wanna come over today? Snotlout says and grabs his bag. I nod gratefully and hop off the table where I had been seated. Snotlout hands me my bags and I wave goodbye to the others as we head out of the school. In the schoolyard is some of the prettiest girls in school. "Oh uh".
-Hey ladiessss! Snotlout says and leans on an non existing wall and falls. He quickly stands back up and I try not to laugh. The girls laugh and wave at him like he's some kind of child. He sighs and turns around as he begins to head home. Can't he see that I was right here? What did he need those girls for when he had me? I shrug it off and catch up to him and place a hand on his shoulder. He quickly smiles at me and grabs my arm in his. We walk all the way home to him. On the way he talks about football training and bragging on how good he was at it, and how he impressed all the cheerleaders. I doubt he did, but I don't say that to him. I just smile and nod happily. If only I could tell him how I feel...
The next day;
The school was painted in posters for the upcoming school ball. The bright colors in the posters made me all happy and giddy inside. I just hoped Snotlout would ask me...
-Haha, nice! The school ball is coming up! I hear him behind me. I turn around. Then I see him walk up beside a girl and trying to impress her, by puckering up his lips. The girl notices him and slaps him across the face. I just shake my head and help him up.

-Hey! At least I was being a gentleman! He says after the girl.
-I know, I know, I try to hard, he says as he saw my face. I make a ":/" face as he grabs my arm and we walk to our class.
After a couple of days, Snotlout still hasn't given up on asking the popular girls out. I just stand aside and let it happen. I'm currently sitting on Snotlouts bed and looking at him pacing around the room, ranting about how he should want every girl in school after him. Under his breakdown, I wrote down a question. When he was done, I handed him the paper.
-If there is someone special I wanna ask out...? He just looks at me. I tilt my head to the side.
-... I mean, I guess, He says and scratches his neck. I grab the paper and write down my next question.
-"Who?" Well... Just the prettiest girl alive, Snotlout says cockily. My heart sinks to the pit of my stomach, but I smile at him.
-I could... use some help... He says, finally giving up. I smile at him, grateful for at least getting to help my friend.
We sit for a few hours, even after sunset and writing out a plan. Snotlouts dad even offered to put up the extra bed for me in the guest room, but I politely declined and got a ride home. I couldn't wait for Snotlout to ask his crush to prom, even if it meant that I could be alone...
oh it hurts that I can't talk... well, "can't", I chose not to when people bullied me because of my voice and kicked my throat so hard my voice cracks when I talk. I chose to stop talking before I got to high school, and now, I'm best friends with someone who really understands. I'm best friends... That I would want to be more.
The next day;
I just walked out of the only class that I have alone, picking out the book for my coming class. Then Snotlout comes and leans on the locker beside mine.
-Hey Y/N! He says, and I smile at him.
-Uh, I need to give you something, he says and gives me a small envelope. I look at him, and then I open the envelope.
"A surprise is waiting for you".
I look at him.
-Eh, no, it, it's nothing... Let's go to class, he says and smiles.
We walk to class and I take one step in and everyone inside the classroom stands up holding signs.
"Can I take you to prom?"
I look at Snotlout, who looks at me nervously. The bravest person I know, is nervous.
-Well??? He asks anxiously. I smile as a tear rolls down my cheek, and I nod.
-YES! Haha! I did it! I asked her to prom, guys, I asked her to prom! He jumps around the classroom, making everyone laugh. Just as I had imagined it would be...
Prom night;
I'm fixing my dress and hair to look nice when Snotlout arrives. I was trying to make it exactly as I imagined it to be. He had under this passed month bribed his dad to get him to drive us to prom, even though I told him countless of times that my mom could get us a ride.

But he insisted! Suddenly there's a knock on the door. I can hear mom opening.
-Y/N, Snotlout is here! She yells up the stairs. I smile and walk down the stairs, seeing Snotlout look at me in awe. I blush and smile.
-Wow... you look even more gorgeous than I imagined... he breathes, making me smile even brighter, if that was even possible.
Mom smiles at me and gives me my flower to put in my hair, and a small rose to put in Snotlouts pocket. I put it there, and then turn him to the mirror. He looks proudly on himself and fixes his neatly slicked hair. I smile as put a hand on his shoulder, as to say "you look very handsome". He smiles and look me in the eyes.
-And you look amazing, he says and hugs me.
I wave goodbye to my parents and then Snotlout escorts me to the car, and opens the car door for me.
Outside the gym stands all of our friends, waiting for us.
-Hey Guys! Glad you could make it! Hiccup says. We all walk in, me walking arm linked with Snotlout.
We decide to dance to a slow song together first. Then we spend the night together with our friends, dancing, eating, goofing around. A night to remember.
When the prom is over everyone goes home. Since there was so many people there, we'll get picked up later, and our friends walked. So we hang out in the park next to the gym for a while.
Me and Snotlout attempted to climb up in one of the "towers" in the kids playground. We both lean on the railing and I listen to him talk for a long while.
- You know, this had been the best night of my life... And it's all with the help of you. Thank you, He says and smiles at me. I smile back.
-You're welcome, I hear myself say in my crackly voice. I only notice when Snotlout looks shocked at me, that I talked. I slap my hands in front of my mouth. Snotlout just stare at me.
-Your voice.... He says. I shake my head and tear threatens to fall from my eyes.
-You talked... You just talked, he says and a small smile starts spreading across his lips. I look away.
-That was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, he says in between laughs of disbelief.
-T-then y-y-You must be deaf, I say, voice cracking even more.
-That May be. But it doesn't matter to me, because you talked! You trust me enough to talk to me! He says. He grabs my waist and spins me around and laughs.
-Y-y-you Don't th-think I'm a freak? I ask, still getting used to my own voice.
-No, are you crazy? I could never think of you that way! Just because some idiots messed up your voice? No! He says and grabs my face, making me stare into his eyes.
-You trusting me enough to talk with me is the only thing I've ever wanted, he says and his thumb brushes my lips, that curls softly into a smile.
-Th-Thank you, I say and hug him.
Then Snotlouts phone rings, telling him that his dad is about 5 minutes away.
-C'mon, lets tell the others, Snotlout says and grabs my hand.
We walk towards the others, that sits on the swings.
-H-Hey Guys, I crackle. They all look at me in shock.
-Did she.... Astrid begins.
-Just... Hiccup continues.
-Talk!? Fishlegs ends. I smile and nod.
-Yeah. Her voice is amazing huh? Snotlout says proudly and puffs out his chest.
-I think he must be deaf, Tuffnut says to his twin, earning a smack on the arm from Hiccup.
-Ouch! Tuffnut says.
-You know Y/N, if you're willing to start talking again, we're all here to support you, Hiccup says and Astrid nods and hugs me. I hug back.
-But, we need to get home, don't want your dad on my tail for getting you home too late, Snotlout says and laughs nervously.
-Bye guys! Snotlout says and grabs my hand.
-B-Bye, I say and follow Snotlout to the car, letting him escort me inside the car again.
A few months later;
I've been talking for about 5 months now, only receiving positive responses from my fellow schoolmates. I've been going to voice rehab, to strengthen my voice, since I had been quiet for almost 4 years. High school just ended, and I can't wait for college. Snotlout, my now boyfriend, and I are going to attend the same college, and I couldn't be happier.
A few more months later;
College just started and I was as happy as I could be. I joined a club for drawing and got a lot of good friends there. I'm just finishing up breakfast as I hear a car honk outside.
-B-Bye Ruffnut and Astrid, I'll see you later! I say as I throw on my jacket and a bag and running outside. On the driveway stands Snotlout in his old/ new car. I smile and run up to him, kissing him before I run to the other side of the car and jump in.
-Good morning babe, he says as he begins driving towards the classrooms.
-Good morning, I say and smile.
This was the life I always imagined...
The life of my dreams.

AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
