《The CEO's Safe Haven [EDITING SOON!]》28. Special Meaning

The dark night quickly changed to day, the birds chirping early morning. Saturday came fast within a blink of an eye. I wake up stretching my arm above my head, quickly making them drop on my lap just staring into nothing in particular.

I must've been sat like this for a couple of minutes or so because I break out of my gaze due to my stomach. Letting out a yawn I remove myself from the duvet, now making ways to the toilet to freshen up.

Once I had done what I needed to do, I leave my somewhat messy room. I head in the direction f the kitchen, fixing a bowl of cereal and chopped up fruits. I let out a sigh as I chew my breakfast, mind replaying back from last night.

"Do you want to grab lunch with me tomorrow?"

Noah's voice rang through my head. Letting out a sigh I chew slowly, speaking to myself,

"I guess one lunch won't hurt,"

I stood up from my chair, now finished with my breakfast. I wash the bowl and spoon, my phone chiming through the silence. I do a one-eight turn and look down at my phone seeing an unknown number call. I pick up speaking hesitantly,

"Lily speaking, who is this?"

"Good morning Lily,"

My name rolled of his lips. I freeze as I look down at the unsaved number with wide eyes, I stutter,

"M- Mr King?"

A chuckle rings in the silent air as he continues to speak,

"You don't have to keep calling me Mr King. A simple Noah would suffice,"

"Right... right,"

"Are you awake?"

"I am but I have one question. Where did you get my number from? You're not a stalker are you?"

He lets out a sigh and I picture him as he rubbed his forehead,

"I got your number from Luke, hope you don't mind and me a stalker? I think you've been watching too many thriller movies,"

"No, it's fine I guess..."

I trail off,

"Is there any reason for calling me?"

There was silence on his side of the call before he spoke,

"I just wanted to make sure that you didn't bail on me for that lunch I posed,"

I smile as I respond,

"The Noah King scared of rejection? I find that hard to believe,"

"Oh trust me Lily Cole, its a scary thing,"

He continued the conversation easily. Chills run down my spine as he said my full name instead of using the pet name he always called me by. My name that left his lips made my stomach twist and turn in anticipation. I hated it but I fucking loved it at the same time.

I could also feel the playful sarcasm behind his words. I find myself smiling, walking away from the dirty dishes that were waiting for me to do. I walk away from the kitchen and now back into my bedroom,

"Scary huh? I thought the ladies always chased you,"

I plop down on my bed, looking up at the ceiling as I waited for him to respond,

"They do but they're all the same,"

I nod at his answer. He wasn't wrong. If I had met him in an alternative situation other than my 'wet floor' incident I was pretty sure that I would've also fell head over heels for him. Noah was indeed the definition of a male sex appeal in many ways possible.

A single glance in my direction would be enough to make me feel like a sixteen-year-old fangirling over Harry Styles. He had that power. I never knew that a businessman could hold that power unless it was someone famous like the Hemsworth brothers...

"I'm sure that at least one of them had caught your eye,"

I said without even realising. He sucked in a breath and movement was heard faintly in the background,

"None of them did,"

I pout for him,

"I'm sure you'll find the one who catches your eye soon. Don't rush it,"

The sound of feet shuffling stops and I hear him loud and clear,

"Someone did catch my eye... they stood out the most from all the ladies I've encountered,"

My heart speeds up and tightens at the mention of that person. What was this? Jealously? No! I hardly know him. Come on, you know it's jealously, shut up! The voices argued in my head one after the other. I change the subject, my mind filled with doubts,

"Is there anything specific that I should wear? What's the theme for lunch? Or can choose what I wear?"

"Hmmm,"

He begins,

"There is no theme. Wear whatever you want. You'll look beautiful anyways,"

My breath hitches at his compliment and even though he wasn't in front of me or in sight I still found myself blushing. He lets out a deep chuckle as he questions,

"Did I just make you flustered Kitten?"

My lips open and close, trying to find something to say but simply couldn't. In the end I seal my lips together, not even trying to defend myself.

He lets out a hearty laugh that warmed my heart, the joyousness making me join in. He stops after a while, my laughter dying too as he speaks,

"I'll come pick you up at two,"

"Okay,"

I say breathlessly. There was the sound of a door opening and soon enough there was additional voices in the background,

"Lily I have to go, My father and brother are getting agitated that I'm still engaged on the phone,"

"Oh my god, hang up already then!"

I say with embarrassment laced in my words. I laugh weakly, my cheeks become red like tomatoes now realising that he called me in the presence of his family. There was a war cry from his side of the line.

Instantly I pull the phone away from my ear, finally cutting the call on behalf of him. I stare at the black screen in shock. Who knew that Noah would be the one to speak over the phone? Shaking my head, I throw my phone to the side and cover my eyes with my forearm.

I licked my lips, one question circling around in my mind. I breathed out peacefully before the questioned escaped my lips almost in a whisper,

"What have I got myself into?"

The morning went slow after the phone call with Noah. To pass time I ended up working on some files that I brought home from the office. With the charity event in mind, I managed to completed most of the pending work still left to do.

I was in the living room currently sat on the floor in front of the tea-table, laptop and one of the files in front of me. I rolled my neck and looked up to the clock, seeing it as one. A gasp leaves my lips as stood up, now heading for my room.

I begin to take off my pyjamas since I decided to work in comfort. I pull my hair out from the messy bun and step inside the shower, relaxing my muscles. I lather honey scented shampoo into my hair. I then move to lather my body with lemon scented shower gel.

Once I was squeaky clean I wrap a towel around my frame now walking out the bathroom. I take a seat in front of my dressing table and dry my hair with a blow-dryer. I then style my hair, coming to a decision of going with natural waves. My make-up was done neutral.

I nod, satisfied with my look for the warm weather. Next I walk over to my cupboard, opening the doors to find something to wear. I look through each item of clothing until I paused at the perfect one wedged between my hoodies. It was a summer bodycon dress.

I take out the item of clothing, giving it a full look. It was a light blue striped dress with medium sized flowers all over. I found myself smiling at the sight of it,

"Perfect,"

I place the dress on my bed and walk back to my cupboard and grab a matching pair of undergarments. Quickly putting them on, I walk back to my bed and wear the dress. I then walk to one corner of my room where my long mirror was placed.

The dress fitted perfectly against my curves. I nod in acceptance, spinning around to face my bed,

"Now shoes..."

I muttered quietly. I crouched down and got on my knees, looking under my bed to find a pair of beige heels. Since I was wearing a watch on my wrist, I look down seeing the time as one-fifty. On cue the door rings, in a hurry I pack my essentials in my clutch and rush over to the door,

"One second! My shoe...argh..."

I trail as my sentence never finishes. I hold onto the door handle as a base of support to wear my final heel. Once I've worn them both heels I stand, now a few inches taller that I was mere seconds ago. A nervous sigh leaves my lips and soon enough, I bite my lower lip out of habit.

Mustering my courage I open the door and come face-to-face with Noah. He stood in front of me holding a bunch of red roses in his hand. His mouth drops open, eyes roaming my face before roaming south down to body.

I caught his cheeks turn a faint pink colour and in my head, his words from our morning call pops up. I smirk knowing that I can use his words against him now,

"Did I just make you flustered Dolphin?"

His eyes meet mine once more and he clears his throat. He offers me the flowers and speaks,

"These are for you kitten... I hope you like them,"

I take them from him, my fingers brushing his in the process of grabbing the flowers. The touch ignited a faint spark against my skin. I take a step back, eyes on the flowers as I smile wide at the small gesture. I look up and speak,

"Come inside. I'll quickly place these in a vase or whatever I can find,"

He gestures using his hand,

"Lead the way,"

I walk back into the house with him hot on my trail. I stop mid-way to the kitchen and face him again, finding him look around my place. I say,

"Make yourself comfortable. I'll be back in a second or so,"

He looks my way, giving a smile. I walk into the open kitchen, disappearing under the sink to grab an empty vase. I fill it with cold water, placing the roses in the vase. I then placed the vase in the middle of the dining table.

Noah stands in front of my sofa as he just watches me. It was only then when I realised his beauty, away from work. He wore a simple but smart outfit: back jeans cladding his thighs and a shirt that matched his eyes. He had a black coat over his arm.

His hair was pushed away from his face, exposing his forehead. The softness that it gave off building an urge to comb my hands through them. He had shaved his small stubble, showing his clean skin that made him look younger than he looked. He smirks as he questioned,

"You done checking me out?"

I cough before answering somewhat confident,

"Maybe,"

He shakes his head as he approached me. I freeze for a second but realised he couldn't come into my bubble because the table was in-between us. He places his hands on two chairs that was in front of him leaning forward. His words left his lips in a seductive whisper,

"If it makes you better, I was also done checking you out,"

He winks, satisfied with his answer. Instantly, no- in seconds my cheeks turned red, burning so fast like I had a fever. Clearing my throat I look away unable to meet his eyes. As sneakily as I could, I look from the corner of my eye to see him drop his hands off the chairs. He comments,

"Come on, let's get going. It's a bit of a drive,"

I nod as we both now head back to the front door. We both leave my place and I lock up before we made ways out the building. We walk down to his car that was parked on the curb. He opens the door like a gentleman, I smile saying thank you.

Once I was sat inside he closed the door, now hurrying to his side. When he was inside, he ignited the car, now pulling the curb and onto the road. This was it, our lunch date had officially begun.

We were driving for a good twenty minutes when I finally ended up whining,

"Where are we exactly going? I'm suddenly hungry,"

He looks my way as he questions,

"Soon. I promise,"

"Are we going to a fancy restaurant?"

He shakes his head,

"No, do you want to go to one?"

"Nah it's fine, besides I'm more about the thought that you've put in. I'm sure it'll be worth it since we're still not there yet,"

He turns left now leaving the main road,

"We're nearly here. Another few minutes or so,"

I look around now seeing trees surround us as we drove through a narrow road. The day was beautiful, the sky filled with streaks of white clouds here and there. Up ahead we passed a few bushes that was filled with different flowers.

We continued driving at a slow pace when I felt Noah lean towards me a little whispering,

"We're here,"

I face him giving him an excited smile seeing his eyes glistering in happiness. Noah takes a left turn and my mouth drops open in awe. He drives until the car comes to a stop. I just stare, taking in the breathtaking view ahead of me.

I hear Noah chuckle from beside and soon I hear the door open and close. He stood in front of the car, calling me out. I raise my index finger, fishing out my phone from my clutch. I take pictures of the scenery, some including with Noah.

He doesn't argue but instead turns his back towards me. His hands were in his pockets, clearing taking in the scene. I grab the opportunity to take pictures of him since he wasn't protesting. The pictures already made me smile so wide that my cheeks were aching.

I step out the car and walk over to him, now standing beside him. I take in a breath of fresh air, the wind softly blowing my hair back,

"Woah,"

I say in awe. In front of me there was a large lake flowing. In it a few swans paddling in pairs. There was no-one here. Just us. Noah and I. I know I said that the thought is what counted the most for me but this... this was so much more than thought...

I looked around the large opening seeing trees blossomed with flowers, a few petals fallen on the green grass due to it being early October. I felt Noah entwine his hands with mine with ease. I look down at our hands my heart speeding as he says,

"Come,"

He guides me towards the lake, our presence taken by the swans as they looked our way. I looked around the lake since I was closer, now seeing a few ducks with their ducklings. I mentally awed at the sight of them. We both walked on the grass until we came to a stop.

He took of his jacket and placed it on the floor, helping me so that I was sitting on it whilst he sat on the grass. I pout, seeing that he created a little distance between us. I shuffled around on his blazer, creating space for him. He notices me doing so.

Once I had finally created some space, I pat on the blazer, persuading him silently to take a seat next to me. He doesn't do anything so I used my words,

"Come sit next to me. There's space for the two of us,"

We hold eyes for what felt like forever until he obliged. Now that he was sat closer to me, our knees touched, skimming once in a while. We both sat in a comfortable silence. I licked my lower lips and spoke a few minutes later,

"What is this place? It's so beautiful and peaceful,"

"I know,"

He spoke softly. I felt him look at me whilst he said that so I turn to the side catching him look away quickly. I smile, choosing to let it go as I ask once more,

"Did you find this place?"

He shakes his head no, thinking... contemplating on what to respond with. I turn my body slightly, giving him my full attention. He clearly had something to say but didn't know how to. He lifts his eyes to meet my eyes,

"My grandma showed me this place. I remember that I would come here when I was young or when I needed an escape. I would just sit here and watch the swans swim like how they are now,"

I turn my head to face them seeing two swim in sync, two of their youngsters following behind,

"I fell in love with this place instantly. I remember my grandma bringing me here when I was upset about something when I was younger,"

He chuckles looking at his shoes,

"I would always get upset over the littlest things and she would always promise me that she would bring me here whenever she could. She told me that only the two of us knew about this place,"

He chuckles as he looks down at his hands,

"Little did I know that this is where my grandma first met my granddad,"

By now he wasn't even looking at me so I had to lean down, angling my head in a position that I caught his eyes. I give him a smile him giving one in return,

"This place clearly has a special meaning to you... what made you decide to bring me here?"

He shrugged his shoulders and looked at the view that was in front of us both,

"There's something about you Lily that I can't shake off,"

My heart tugs now remembering our conversation over the phone. My mood deflated a little,

"What about that girl who's caught your eye? Why show me this breathtaking view instead of her?"

I bite my lip facing him. He looks at me without an emotion plastered on his face. He then broke out into a lazy smile and answered my question,

"Kitten, you're so naive and gullible. I already am showing her,"

My lips part at his words, my heart beating out of its rib-cage,

"What?"

He lifts one hand of the grass and cups my cheek,

"Kitten you're the one who's caught my eye,"
