《The CEO's Safe Haven [EDITING SOON!]》6. Kitten

There's a saying; dropping a pin in silence would be heard. I never believed it but as of right now, if it was to happen, the statement would be accurate. The room that contained us was scarily silent, my eyes flickering between the men; the truth not sinking in yet.

Out of nowhere, I laugh throwing my head back. A seconds later I lift my head back up to see them both taken back by my response. I place a hand in my stomach, the other moving to wipe away the fake tear. I release a sigh before I comment,

"Whoo that was funny. Now tell me this isn't true,"

They both gave each other a look before looking at me. The silence longed out, neither of them correcting me and that's when everything started to fall in place. My face looses the humour, seriousness dropping like a bomb. I speak up, not admitting the truth still,

"You're joking right? You're just holding the silence to build tension..."

I trailed off. I still got no response,

"Say something!"

I exclaim, my heartbeat now beginning to ring in my ear. Luke shuffles on his feet and that's when I see it. The slightest shuffle he did made me see it. Behind him, was a name plate which was written in bold; shining in acknowledgement and confidence. .

My legs give away, making me to take steps backwards before I trip over my own two feet. I fall to the floor, my eyes widen at the name plate. My breaths become short and fast. That was when the truth finally sunk in,

"Lily!?"

Luke calls my name. He steps forward from Noah and comes down to my level, his worried eyes on mine. I lean back, my eyes raid his. I felt myself panic a little. This was not suppose to happen. Not like this at all. I slightly shake my head, the words escaping my lips in a stutter,

"This... this isn't real... I can't- I can't be here... I- I need to go... I- I have no right to be he- here,"

I say trying to reassure myself. My eyes stay glued on the floor, avoiding them both. I wipe away the sweat that trickled down my forehead and proceed to stand. Once I'm stood, I don't dare to face Noah. Instead, I turn on my feet; ready to leave.

I could feel his eyes on me once again. I felt like I was being watched, like my movement was being written down, calculated even. I felt my body give up on me, my ankle twisting. I gasp, my hand extended out to stead myself.

I closed my eyes, grateful that I didn't humiliate myself that I already did. I stand tall once more, my back facing them both. Without much thought, I blurt out,

"Um, I'll... er... be on my way out. You know... working on that report... yeah work calls me. Luke, Mr King,"

I breath out their names. I focus on the door until it suddenly felt like it was a mile away from where I stood. I close my eyes once more, shaking the illusion out. I reopen them and walk up to the door, my ears blocking all the noise.

Just as I make it to the door, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I stiffly turn my head to the side seeing Luke now stood behind me. Now that he knew that I was looking at him he let out a low sigh. He combed a hand through his blonde hair and commented,

"Sugarplum, I think you should stay back for a bit,"

"But the report..."

I spoke like a child. Luke only squeezed my shoulder in reassurance before answering,

"Don't worry about that. I'll get it done for you,"

He moved around so that he was now stood in front of me. He gave me a smile before patting my shoulder. He then faced the door, opened it and left. The door closed with a quiet click and I stay frozen on the spot.

I zone out a little, biting my lip in worry. I sway back and forth on my heels, feeling another sweat build on the back of my neck. Trying to find a distraction, I look to the side coming to see the ceiling-to-floor window; portraying the sky-scraping view of New York.

My eyes softened, body acting first as I faced the glass. It was as if the worry, stress and panic was lifted up. My feet moved towards the window until I stood there. It was as if someone had briefly paused my life, allowing me have a short break from the chaos that I had faced.

I place my hands on the cold surface, nose pressed against the glass as I looked down from the height I was at. A small shiver coursed through my spine and I find myself smiling at the view. The buildings just looked like different shapes. People on sidewalks small like ants,

"Wow,"

I breathed out to myself, my eyes scan the horizon ahead now seeing the taller buildings across the city. The sky was clear, streaks of white clouds peaking here and there. I stand my eyes never leaving the scenery.

If there was anything to get my mind on ease it was by looking at the beauty of the world. A sigh leaves my mouth as I quickly glace down at my watch, suddenly letting out a squeak as I read the time.

I reach up to my messy hair gradually pulling the hairband out, allowing my hair fall behind my back as I continuously muttered to myself,

"Shit the report, what the hell? That's it, I'm so fired, oh my god. Stupid, stupid, stu-"

I turn around only to come to freeze. My eyes widen, my face falling as seconds ticked. Like someone had returned and clicked play. Memories surface and whizzed through my head making my heart quicken up it's pace.

I placed a hand on my chest feeling it beat. My heart was beating way more than it should... it was never like this unless I was about to have a panic attack but this time... it wasn't leading up to one. This time it was for something else... someone else... and I didn't know how I could react.

Noah sat behind his desk, eyes focused on the piece of paper that he held. His eyebrows showed intense concentration as he bit his lower lip, a pen constantly twirling between his fingers. Like before, the sleeves to his white shirt were still rolled up.

His tie was loose a little, hair a little messy clearly from the countless times he must've ran his hand through it, oh how I wished I could comb them back in place. My breath hitches as I continue to stare at him.

I blink my eyes, shaking my head as I cursed for thinking that in the first place. My mind went blank, playing heated scenes. My stomach tightening at the mere thought alone. Before I could acknowledge anything further, he removed his gaze of the paper and now looked my way.

I swear my heart skipped a beat when he lifted his gaze off the paper. He placed the piece of paper down, an eyebrow raised as he spoke filling the silent room,

"It's rude to stare you know kitten,"

The baby hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I let out an involuntary visible shiver. My knees almost buckle on their own just at how deep his voice sounded. We both held our gazes until he began to spin on his chair.

He stands up confidently and shoves his hands in his pockets. He then walks around his desk, his footsteps in my direction. We both still held our gazes. None of us backing away. Move dammit! Even if it's the slightest! I mentally screamed at myself.

I hated the fact that his stare alone was enough to make me paralysed, not even being able to move an inch. He was at a good distance when he stopped walking; making me smell his scent; sandalwood, aftershave and a hint of lemon now.

Frenzy. It left my mind in wonder. He tilts his head a little as he took another daring step forward. I mirror his action in retaliation. We continued doing this until my back touched the cold surface of the window.

I do a double look towards the ground beneath me and gasp, hating myself that there was no way out. I turn to face him again, finding him smirk. I blink, sucking in a deep breath of his scent. Mind a little slow on accepting how his presence affected me greatly.

I try to avoid his captivating, emerald eyes but struggled massively until I found myself biting my bottom lip. Hard. His eyes fell on my lips before meeting my eyes. He leaned down, making me press myself into the glass even more. I look way, hoping that he would back away.

He didn't.

Instead, he took out a hands from his pocket and placed it on either side of my head, trapping me. I was left with no option but to look up into his emerald eyes. Now in our new intimate position, I was left in awe; his eyes sparkling beautifully.

He then removed one of his hand off the wall and rested his index finger under my bottom lip. His thumb then touched the centre of my bottom lip, removing it from being attached to my teeth. His touch left me with a sensation I never felt before. He spoke in a deep husky whisper,

"Kitten?"

I instantly close my eyes, a small gasp leaving my now parted lips. His thumb brushed my lips, his touch foreign against my skin. I try to grasp what was happening but I simply couldn't. Not with him around me. Close to me... touching me like this...

My heart felt like it was on cloud nine. My chest rose and fell heavily as it brushed slightly against his due to our proximity,

"Don't call me that, I have a name,"

I spoke hastily as I re-opened my eyes. The smirk left his lips and he removed his hand from my face. No! My mind screamed. He sucked in a sharp breath and looked away for a second. He didn't waste time before looking back at me, eyes piercing through mine dangerously. He stated,

"Oh really? And what is your name kitten?"

He spoke with confidence, knowing that he was winning and will win. The words that left his plump lips only made my stomach tighten, the warmth building southwards. I lick my lips, slightly taken back at how even a few words and his tone made me react against my will.

Acting in a protective matter and out of my shell, I barely acknowledge my own actions as I raise my hands to his chest, making him look at me in surprise. He was clearly not keeping up with my actions. Who could blame him? I couldn't neither and it was my body.

I take the opportunity and push him away, making him stumble back with widened eyes. A scoff leaves my lips randomly and I remove myself from the window and him. One part of my mind was screaming but the other wasn't. I walked past him and headed for the door.

I didn't know what possessed me but I knew that the unknown confidence that I had was dripping away and it was clear sign of getting me fired if my actions hadn't already,

"It's a shame we met like this, even during the morning. I mean, how else can you meet your boss like that? Falling into the CEO's arms? I must've been crazy..."

I speak mainly to myself. I was a foot or so away from the door, this time muttering quietly. Since it was just us two in the room, I was pretty sure that he picked up on my words,

"Guess my luck is bad, I mean come on... I made an entrance which literally screamed the tittle which was shoved in the corner of my head last week Lily Cole: the one who di-"

Before even finish off my muttering, I was flung back by him holding my wrist. The force was strong to spin me to the point where I almost had a whiplash. I spin of my feet and end up being pinned against his hard rock chest.

For multiple times already my taken back eyes look up to see darkened ones, the emerald no longer alive. In that moment alone, I was lost for words. My mind gave up on me on instant. He gritted his teeth making his jaw sharpen even more than it was without flexing.

The words that escaped his lips only brought fear, crushing any little hope I had left within me,

"Don't you dare push me away,"
