Eyes solely focused on the tall building two blocks ahead, my feet abruptly come to a stop at the traffic light. I wince in pain, my stomach tightening from running with full energy. My lips part allowing my breaths to escape as ragged and heavy. My heart beating way faster than it should.

Every breath that left my lips acted like a ticking bomb, just waiting to explode. My eyes fixate back on the building. The red man turns to green. From the corner of my eye, an elderly lady stands besides me. She looked no older than being in her late 50's, trolley at hand.

We both began to walk. I was a couple of steps away from the other side whereas the elderly lady gradually walked slower, falling behind with each step she took. I glance up to the traffic light, the red man now beeping at a steady pace.

We both had five seconds. Four seconds. Three. I begin to speed up, successfully closing the distance. I looked over my shoulder seeing the elderly lady still halfway across the road.

Dammit. She was never going to make it.

I swore mentally, my feet now coming to a stop. I closed my eyes and swore under my breath, knowing that my job was on the line but the elderly lady was in my presence. I couldn't just leave her alone.

I hesitated, my feet planted into the ground. I waited patiently for her to fall in line with me. It look her a less than thirty seconds to catch up. I look back at the traffic light, the amber version of the man now flashing at a quicker pace than the red man.

The amber signalled a few cars to move, allowing them to drive off whereas the cars that we were stood in front of me couldn't. Fairly speaking it was early in the morning and people were busy with life like me, so instead of being patient they retaliated.

A few drivers honked their steering wheel making me jump from the suddenness. I turn my face in their direction, coming to see their expressions as screwed up. I rolled my eyes upon scene. One driver, a woman specifically, honked longer than the rest.

She had her windows closed and her lips moving fast, like she was speaking to someone. My sixth sense was right because she had her phone placed on her window, acting like a sat-nav. I disregarded everyone's honks and the woman's glare.

I continued to stand still, now taking the chance to inhale deeply. I reach up to pull the hairband from my tamed hair that was in a ponytail. Once it was out, I shake my head, allowing my hair to cascade down my face and back.

By the time I had my little moment, the elderly lady made it safely across the road. She stood near the edge, looking at me. I comb a hand through my hair before I face the stubborn woman. I give her a look before jogging out of the road.

Just as I stepped on the pavement, I glance at the woman for the final time. She shook her head in disappointment, her lips still moving at a slower pace now. I stand next to the elderly woman, my heels coming to a stop. She holds onto my hand as she spoke in a fragile tone,

"Thank you dear, you didn't have to wait for me,"

I smile and wave my hands at her arguing,

"Oh don't worry. It was nothing,"

She continued,

"I'm sure you have places to be,"

I chuckle a little as I reply,

"Don't worry about me, I'm sure I'll make it on time... which from the looks of, I should really get going,"

I comment, looking down at my watch. She waves her hands in the air, a small laugh leaving her mouth as she shoos me away,

"Go go! Don't stick around any longer! I'm safely across with your help,"

I laugh lightly as I nod, turning away from her. I take in a deep breath, mustering the adrenaline to rush. Not wasting another second, I run down the busy street. The sound of my heels catching people's attention. They create a path, allowing me to run.

I smile wide, eyes squinting as the adrenaline rushed quicker than I thought through my veins. My hair flapped against the momentum, the cold air slapping me in the face. It woke me up and I didn't hate it one bit instead, I loved it. The moment right now that is.

Ten minutes later, I make it in front of the tall, sleek black building. My legs burning from the amount of running I had done. Having the feeling to collapse on the floor, I place a hand on the glass window, the other moving to clutch the side of my stomach as I breathed heavily.

I take multiple deep breaths, trying to get my heart back to normal but even that was hard. My hair fell in front of my face, acting as a curtain. I gave up with the deep breaths and fell to my knees. It worked better anyways.

Once I had managed to calm my beating heart, I shake my head and look through the glass window, making eye-contact with Tanya; a close friend and receptionist at King Enterprise. She looks right back at me with an unimpressed expression.

I then stand tall, the stitch now dying a little. I release a shaky breath before plastering a smile on my face. I place both hands on the old glass doors, pushing them wide open. My heels click against the marbled floor as I approach her. I lick my lips and speak breathlessly,

"Morning Tan,"

By the time I greeted her, I had reached her desk. My arms moving to rest on the cold surface. I pout, trying to squeeze my way get out of being late. It failed miserably. Tanya shakes her head, a sigh leaving her lips like she expected it. Nevertheless her mood changes, replying back,

"The good morning applies more for you, you latecomer. You seem like you had a good start to your day, not to forget an athletic one too,"

I roll my eyes before I used my fingers to grab the tips of my hair, picking on my split ends,

"Please, I blame my phone... I kept pressing snooze every time that stupid thing went off,"

I mutter. Irritation resurfacing as images reappeared in my mind, replaying how I fell off the bed with a thud. Tanya looks at me with her perfectly shaped eyebrow raised,

"You sure do know how to make an entrance Lil,"

I blink at her feeling myself smile. To put Tanya in simple words, she was amazing. She was the person who you could rely and turn to when you needed someone. She had olive skin that shone beautifully under the sun.

Her hazel eyes always soft, not to mention her thick, long black hair which fell just below her bust. She had a body to die for. Her curves and edges prompt to make any male weak. I roll my eyes at her as I comment back,

"Please Tan for the last time, if I ever want to make an entrance, it'll be the one where the whole company talks about it for weeks, imagine that ey? Lily Cole: The one who did this!"

I emphasis with my hands in the air. I give a quick side glace at her only to find her eyes glued on the computer screen, my voice tiring her out already. I sigh, shoving the title in the corner of my mind. I face her again, this time now interested in work,

"Ugh, forget what I said, since it sounded stupid anyways. Has our beloved CEO made his presence today?

Tanya frowns, her eyes flickering around before she met mine,

"Careful with your words. Just because your still new doesn't mean you can get comfortable. You need to be careful. Mr King can fire you with a click of his fingers and to answer your question, yes. He came in not long ago. Same as always,"

"Always as in... moody? Uptight?"

I trail off. Tanya closed her eyes, her slim fingers moving to the bridge of her nose. She sucked in a deep breath before she ushered me away with her eyes closed still,

"Just go to your desk already. That annual report won't be completed by itself you know,"

I throw my head back groaning,

"Course it won't! Our lovely CEO wanted it by the end of the week. This week you hear me! Not by the end of the month like originally planned. The least he could've done was give me a pay rise for it. My life's in despair. Help me Tan before I'm covered in wrinkles!"

I tried to sneakily look at her from the corner of my eyes. It failed miserably. Again. She stopped typing and held my gaze. She rolls her eyes, a dry chuckle leaving her mouth. She was unable to hold in her emotions, even at nine-thirty in the morning.

Her attention on me doesn't last long though, she tears her vision from me; her fingers moving back to typing,

"Just go already and oh, Luke said he wanted to talk to you briefly about something. Do not bombard me with ten extra questions that I have no answer to. Go meet him and find out. He told me to give you a heads up when you turn up,"

I look down at my mint green nails that matched my shirt. A dramatic sigh leaves my lips as I turn on my feet, walking away from her. Even though I had my back facing her, I knew her eyes were still on me. Without turning, I raise both hands in the hair in surrender, speaking jokingly,

"Oh yeah Tan, so looking forward to it. Can't wait to work on the report and spill some gossip with Luke for like half-an-hour on our next outfits!"

"Lily, just go already before I throw a pencil at you,"

Tanya remarks. I pout, a whine leaving my mouth. I press the button for the elevator, resting my body against the wall. I smirk, teasing her once more,

"Aw, you're no fun,"

She shifts in her seat, getting ready to attack. I welped whilst continuously pressing the button. Mentally thanking myself, the doors open. I stepped in and pressed the number twenty. Just before the doors closed, I grabbed Tanya's attention by questioning out in the open,

"I'll meet you during lunch yeah?"
