《Frenemies》Chapter 8: Foot-Slip Not a Nip-Slip

Life is fragile. Now, I know saying that is cliché, maybe even a little boring...but it's the truth. Life is fragile. It can break; it can be shattered, and demolished. Similar to a mirror, once there's a crack, there's a guarantee the entire glass will fall apart to the point where nothing but the darkened wood that held the flawless piece together remains. Think of life as the glass, and your body as the wood. If you strip life from the body...what do you have left?
"Nothing," you mumbled, smiling a little when looking up at the clouds that seemed close to touch.
Fingers dancing in the air, you dangerously let your toes tippy toe as you balanced yourself to the ledge of the BigHit building.
Busy streets, busy people.
No essence gave you a second glance as you stood on top of the building, thinking, reflecting, and out here for a break. You always came out here when you had time given for lunch breaks. It was peaceful and helped drain all the anger away from your body.
You didn't know if it was the breeze that literally cooled you down, or if it was the fact that nothing else but clouds seemed to be your sight. You didn't look down...you always seemed to look up. You looked up at the clouds and not the strong busy streets murmuring below you.
You felt like the king and queen of the world on this ledge. You felt like King Kong, ready to Hulk out, only to become tame when seeing how high you truly were. It felt as if birds couldn't even reach this high...I'm sure they do, and they have...but I like to think I'm the only one who's been here.
Where is here? The top of the building.
Why are you here, you wonder? Well, it's the only place where you're not screaming internally over the fact that 7 boys are out to get you, management and hundreds of working faces glare at you, while Lia, a beautiful friend, awkwardly speaks to you.
It's been a week working for Bangtan.
Monday, I had worked alongside Lia. She hadn't spoken to me, nor did she glance over at me at all. But I was assigned under her wing due to PD Nim's instructions.
Tuesday, I had worked alongside Lia again. She said my name and called for me...that was nice. And then Jungkook came, sweaty, disgusting, and huge smile on his face as he changed out of his shoes to dance. He made me massage his feet.
Your nose scrunched in disgust when remembering how revolting and evil that was of the maknae to do. Talk about being passive-aggressive with the punishments, you thought internally, knowing it was utterly fun for the maknae to have begun a disastrous week to begin with.
Wednesday, Lia probably heard about the horrid massaging of 'golden' feet, because she spoke to me this day. I swear I had seen a smile from the sweet woman but couldn't be so sure. PD Nim was nice, offered me access to the cafeteria in the building so I could eat. I chose not to go in because the boys were all there. They watched me leave before I could even enter, smiles gone, eyes narrowed.
You rolled your eyes at the memory of them always trying to be intimidating. Sighing, you moved to turn on the ledge, looking down at your toes for a moment before grinning when you managed to start walking in the opposite direction.
Thursday, Didn't see Lia, but got dragged in to see the boys at their shoot. Frankly, the worst day ever...Jungkook wasn't the only one to torment me during that time. Yoongi was there, helping him. Let's just say I had to pick up things they'd purposely drop, move to handle work they'd toss my way, run errands that I wasn't in charge of, and fetch them food every twenty minutes. Throughout it all, those dweebs would laugh and smile.

"Jerks," you mumbled, sighing as you eyed the clouds and froze a little in your spot.
Friday, Had breakfast with Lia and she smiled at me...that was really really nice. PD Nim came with me to the cafeteria and I hid behind him while getting food. Then I crawled up here to eat when he offered up his keys again. It was strange how nice he was...he trusted Bangtan's robber—me. Paradise with PD Nim and Lia didn't last long since Jungkook managed to pull me to their home so I could clean up the place there. "I'm not a maid" I had said, under my breath and tired when I was dragged away from my car and over to the van that held all boys. What Jungkook had said next, eyes blank, yet grip angry, simply made me feel shittier...
"'You are what I say you are,'" you recited out, blinking as your lung filled with more of the outside air. That's what he said...that's what he said, only to have more fun and torment my cute ass with idiotic chores back at their place.
"Jerk," you mumbled again, rolling your eyes as you continued to start walking about on the edge.
He wasn't Jae. Jungkook wasn't Jae. But at points, the things he'd say to you out of dislike made him look worse that Jae...and even though the maknae was the sweetest to everyone else, he was Satan's span when around you. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating. He's still not as bad as Jae, you sighed internally, but ahhh, I don't want to massage anyone anymore!
Weekends off, here you were Monday lunch break. A new week, still feeling incredibly shitty, stressing about the previous week and when asked, Vee's response to the 'picture guy' Yoongi arranged was "being taken of". What that meant, you had no idea. But you trusted Vee to save your face from being opened to the public.
You shivered. You didn't know if it was from the cold, or if it was because of the memory of the news that broke out to the fans after the press conference. There was many news outlets that stayed by Bangtan's building for a while shortly after, but, slowly, all started to disperse.
The video and conference was out there, fans and others had opinions that they held. Whether or not they believed what took place was up to them as there were mixed reviews.
What mattered to BigHit was that the truth was now out there and they were slowly trying to rebuild structure with the fandom. Jungkook was the happiest of all through this entire mess...he was happy he spoke truth that day and, you didn't blame him for being happy.
I hope this all settles down soon, you begged mentally, wanting to just be out of debt and go back to your normal life.
Sure, you saw your oblivious family every day. Sure, you had Jae constantly yelling at your ear with threats. Sure, you went to school and tried to focus on studies all while working for an idol group...but your life wasn't how it used to be and you wanted it back.
You stopped for a moment. You looked at the clouds and nothing but the clouds. You didn't look down, not for a moment, you wouldn't dare look down. There was more to your life, to this scenario you'd found yourself in, and your state of mind, to be looking down now...you weren't going to let your glass shatter.
Not today, it won't shatter today.

Not just yet.
"I don't pay you to push past your break and hide."
You felt your stomach turn a full 180 degrees to the left. Your guts twisting even at the sound of the familiar voice that spoke behind you on the roof. The fact that the voice simply got louder and more stern as it followed footsteps closer to you, you didn't look at the boy. You faced forward as his frame tried not to act surprised over seeing you on a ledge.
"I'll be down in a moment."
"I hope not physically down off the building," Jungkook said, swallowing a little as it had caught him slightly off guard when spotting you standing on by the edge, "...and down with Lia-sshi instead."
"I'm not about to jump off a building," you piped, smiling before finally glancing over at the maknae that was closely by your foot at this point.
"Good."
"Aw," you sang out, chuckling as you moved your foot in front of the other, hip swaying slowly as you stared up at the skies some more, "do I hear concern in your voice?"
Jungkook swallowed again, glancing down past the ledge. He felt his palms sweat when viewing how high the building was but didn't say a word; he simply focused on collecting his composure to a blank expression all over again.
"How cute," Jungkook piped playfully back, voice mixed with dislike, "you think I care about you."
You grinned at that, flashing your teeth over in his direction, only for him to roll his eyes.
"Get off now and let's go, my feet are cramping up again," he said, stepping aside, waiting for you to get off due to his orders. His brow jumped a little when you didn't, you playfully smiled at him before continuing with your wiggling feet.
"How'd you know I was up here?"
"I asked PD Nim."
"He wouldn't tell you," you popped, knowing exactly how the maknae came to be here. Kook clearly followed me and waited to give my life more hell, you mumbled irritably internally.
"Would you just come down?" Jungkook said through his teeth, ignoring your clear questioning as he found himself growing annoyed.
"I knew it," you piped, grinning to yourself when noticing the sudden shift in the maknae's behaviour. Of course he'd follow me. You rolled your eyes.
Jungkook awkwardly twitched before glancing back down past the ledge. Could she just come down? This is so high, one slip and she's done for.
"You ever wonder why I was so reckless with the robbing."
Jungkook's head shut up to meet your gaze.
You froze for a minute and watched his awkwardness grow as he licked his bottom lip.
"Come. Down."
"No," you said sternly back, not taking in the fact that the maknae was trying to be intimidating while looking over at you.
Jungkook let air move out from his nostrils sharply. "Yes," he said sighing, "yes I have wondered how one can be so stupid to get caught so easy."
"Well in most experienced cases, not wearing masks or disguises gives you a better shot with getting away with crime when there aren't cameras," you said softly, breathing out knowledge that you let out from the professional mastermind that was Jae. "No mask, better shot at me leaving having everyone else think I'm a completely innocent bystander..."
"But it didn't work for you."
"Mostly because I didn't do it right," you said truthfully, "I'm an amateur...plus I had to make out with you the first time around so of course you'd see my face."
"You could've turned the lights off."
You smiled at that.
Jungkook couldn't help but smile a little too.
"I did dim the lights when I was naked in front of you though," you purred out, grinning when the maknae looked playfully over at you.
"I'm glad you dimmed them," he said, grinning cunningly, "Didn't want to see what you had to offer in definite light."
Your face fell at that.
He grew smugger before turning his torso in a way to make it obvious to you that he was going to leave you behind with a zinger.
Your jaw clenched. About to blow off on him, you kicked away in attempts to jump off the ledge but gasped loud and rash when instead, your form wiggled in a way to fall straight off the exposed side.
"JUNGKO-"
"OH MY GOD," Jungkook yelled. His voice high and pitched as he instantly moved to grab a hold of your arm and help guide you away from the edge you almost fell directly off of.
You burst out laughing the minute your feet met the leveled ground. Now eye to eye with the horrified maknae, you almost spit in his face as you yelled.
"That was so close, I peed a little when my foo-"
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?"
"Chill out, it was a foot-slip not a nip-slip," you snorted, trying to move away from the boy's hold on your arm as he simply yanked you closer to his body that moved towards the roof's door.
"You could've killed yourself," Jungkook mumbled, grip on your arm unnecessarily harsh causing you to roll your eyes as you pushed away from him when getting to the door.
"Why do you care?"
"I don't."
"Then wha-"
"I just don't need more drama revolving—what may look like a suicide—when there's already so much you've done. Give management a break with your bullshit please and stay off the roof," Jungkook snapped, voice tired as he made sure you moved quick and abrupt in front of him as he hovering closely behind you.
You frowned at that.
"No more roof."
Your pout grew.
"...why not just take away more things from me that make me happy?" you sighed out sarcastic.
"What?" he asked, brows furrowing as Jungkook didn't quite catch your words.
You didn't answer him, swiftly placing the keys into his palms before forcing your frown to move into a blank expression. Lips were straight and dull.
"I won't go on the roof anymore," you numbly stated, almost like a robot when you gave what PD Nim gave to you as a privilege to Jungkook. I gave the privilege away to the one boy who seemed to always want to make me miserable around here, but I won't be. I won't act miserable anymore.
It was a new week for you.
You smiled, watching the maknae's eyes twist in confusion as he took the keys and felt creeped out by the sight of your face turn when looking at him with a smile.
"Bring on your pretty feet," you piped, hands going to your hips before twirling around so your hair whipped the maknae straight in the face, "I'll massage them now."
