《The Bet (Lesbian Story)》Chapter 16

I guided Amy to the restaurant's entrance. She looked around taking in all the details of its façade. Her green coloured eyes seemed to shine bright against the sunlight and her amazed smile only made her more beautiful. Wait, what? The hell did I just think? Ok, deal with that later.

I took her by the hand taking her inside. A young waiter with a perfect fitted black suit was already waiting by the front door. He smiled politely as he looked at me. His complexion was then stained with a frown as his eyes set on Amy, especially when he saw our hands intertwined. He looked back at her wit a scowl and she quickly looked at the floor. I felt her hands shaking.

I knew exactly what he was thinking. First, what was a girl dressed so poorly in front of the most expensive restaurant in town. And second, why was someone like me accompanying her. I could understand his confusion but nonetheless I couldn't let him treat my date like that. I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow towards the men that quickly saw his mistake and went back to smiling.

"Um, do you girls have a reservation?" He asked smugly. I forced myself not to punch him in the face.

"Yes we do. It's in the name of Katherine Hills." I answered in the same tone holding my head up high.

He looked down to a big book at the table beside him. He looked at it for a while, for sure taking his time. I just knew he was trying to piss me off.

"Didn't know a restaurant like this would hire an illiterate person such as you. If you want I can spell my name for you. Would that help?" I said slowly and enunciating every word just like I would if I was talking to a mentally challenged person. He looked back at me holding himself not to say anything back. He knew well that talking back to a customer would certainly cost his job.

"Thank you for the kind offer Miss Hills but I already found your name. Please follow me and I will show you to your table." He said forcing a smile, I gave him my best fake smile and took Amy's hand again giving her a reassuring smile.

The man guided us through the restaurant and towards our table. It a table for two, conveniently placed outside. The table faced the garden in the back of the restaurant. Colourful flowers adorned a small pond with beautiful carps sporting the brightest colours. By the edge of the pond a small waterfall brought water to it giving the place a sweet and serene sound.

I saw Amy looking around, half amazed but still nervousness was taking over her. I sighed.

"What's wrong?" I asked gently. I almost frowned at myself when I heard my voice. I didn't remember the last time I used such a caring tone with someone. Ok, deal with that later.

"I'm not dressed appropriately for this place. You saw how that waiter looked at me. I never went to a fancy place like this before. I don't know what to do." She said quickly all in one breath. I raised my eyebrow in question. She breathed deeply in and out.

"Don't worry about that. That guy was an asshole and besides we aren't here to please anyone, we're here to have a good time and enjoy some good food." I said shrugging.

Where had this whole speech come from? Good question, I had no idea. I was the one that always cared what people thought of me. I was the one that would never in my life be caught in a restaurant like this one with someone like Amy. Then why wasn't I even slightly caring about it right now? Ok, deal with that later.

"I'm not used to this kind of stuff." She said quietly. A young waitress came towards us not giving me a chance to say something.

"Good afternoon. My name is Ana and I'll be your waitress today." She said handing both of us a menu.

"I'll give you girls some time to choose. I'll be back in a few minutes." She said smiling politely at us. I smiled back and watched as she went away.

When the waitress was far enough I turned towards Amy. She hadn't opened the menu yet. She was just looking at it, her mind though was in far away places. I knew that because I saw how she only looked at one point. She normally did that when she was thinking.

"Is it that bad that I want to take you out for lunch? Why are you upset about it?" I said slightly frowning. My chest contracted a little, it was a weird feeling.

"No, I like that you're doing this for me" She said still looking down.

"But?" I asked knowing that there was something bothering her a lot.

"But I don't want to be the girl that goes to fancy places at the expense of someone else." She said finally. I arched my eyebrow. I should have known she wouldn't feel comfortable having me paying for her.

Money was a tricky subject for her, just as much as family. It was weird to me, the thought of not being able to go to a good restaurant and enjoy some fancy things now and then. But I should have known she wouldn't be ok with it. After all she was a very proud girl.

I looked around. Observed the kind of people around me. To be honest, most of them seemed to be snobby and futile. I knew I couldn't say that just by looking at them. But living in the high society for as long as I did, you start to notice a pattern.

I looked up. All I could see were the grey rain clouds that covered the sky. The faint sound of far away thunder could be heard echoing through the air. It was still a reasonable warm day, even with the promise of rain. I looked at Amy and smirked taking a decision.

I could see through the corner of my eyes that Katherine was looking at me from the other side of the table. I didn't dare make eye contact. I then felt something soft and warm over my hand. I looked down. Kate's hand was over mine. I shyly lifted my eyes enough so I could see her. She was smiling brightly.

She got up still holding my hand and pulling me up. I looked around frightened wondering what she was up to. Even though I wasn't looking her in the eyes I still got a glimpse of them. They were shining with mischief and excitement.

"Katherine, what are you doing?" I asked in a whisper. She grinned.

"I thought about it, and I figured you're right." She said shrugging.

"Meaning?"

"Meaning that we're getting out of here." She said finally pulling me with her. I almost tripped but was able to follow her.

The sound of thunder was getting louder. Small droplets of water were falling on our skin. We raced the rain to Katherine's car. We got to the car in record time. She quickly opened the door for me.

"Go on, fast it's gonna rain!" She said looking at the sky. A second after she closed the door for me the rain fell down with all its will.

Katherine got in the car just a few seconds later. It wasn't fast enough though. I really couldn't hold back my laughter.

Her hair was wet and small drops of water fell down her nose. She looked at me and rolled her eyes as she saw me trying to hold back my laughter. She tried to keep a straight face but a she had a small smile on the corner of her lips.

"One comment about my hair and I'll kill and bury you in my backyard." She said playfully. I just laughed. Soon enough she was laughing with me and we both started to have a fit of laughter.

"So, do you have a plan? Or are we going to stay in your car for the rest of the day?" I asked trying to calm myself down.

"Of course I have a plan! Just sit and relax." She said with a huge grin on her face.

I shook my head as she turned on the car. I looked out the window, the droplets of water stained the window falling down making semi straight patterns. We just stayed in silence for a few minutes. Not an awkward silence though, just a comfortable one. That seemed to happen a lot with us.

I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket. I reached for it and looked at the screen. Manuel's name was shining on it. I clicked on it to open his message. "Hey girl, hope you're having fun at your date! But anyways I have good news, boss said he was closing the shop earlier today because of this storm, so you don't need to come back. Enjoy your day with blondie. And be careful. Message me when you get home."

I smiled looking at his text. He was always so worried about me. I was lucky to have such a good friend as him. I quickly typed an answer. "Yes, don't worry about me. I'll text you once I get home." I then put my phone on my back pocket again.

"What's up?" She said frowning a bit. Clearly wanting to know who had messaged me.

"Nothing, just won't need to come back to work today." I said shrugging.

"Well, that's great. I know exactly where to take you." She said with the brightest smile ever.

"Will at least tell me where we're going?" I asked and she smirked.

"You're going to meet a friend of mine."
