《Falling for a Star (Complete)》Chapter 17 - Brenley's Day

I looked over into the passenger seat to a blindfolded Dylan but it didn't look like Dylan. He looked like somebody's grandpa in that crazy disguise and every time I looked at him I just wanted to laugh.

I gazed down at my phone for just a split second to see the directions before looking back up, paranoid that I would wreck his extremely expensive, beautiful car. I couldn't believe he really let me drive it when he had never let anybody else. That made me feel special and my insides fluttered just a little bit thinking about it, making me smile. I was glad he was blindfolded and wouldn't see me grinning like a crazy person.

I pulled up to a stoplight and another car pulled up to the right of me and the shocked look the woman driving gave me at seeing an old man blindfolded in my passenger seat was hilarious.

I shouted out, "My sugar daddy's kinky and likes being blind folded and spanked when he's been a bad boy."

The two middle aged women's faces instantly looked disgusted and appalled and as soon as the light turned green they sped away. I started laughing so hard my stomach hurt.

"Oh my gosh! You should've seen their faces Dylan. That was priceless," I laughed.

"Brenley Jensen. You are officially crazy," he said, laughing and shaking his head.

"Ha! If you think I'm crazy, you should meet my best friend Ellie. She's a wild woman."

"Maybe one day," he said and that made my smile slowly fade and I swallowed, knowing that would never happen. It probably just felt good for him to say it. You know how some people will say, "Hey we should hang out some time." Then you never hear from them again.

I drove to our destination and shut off the engine and he asked, "Can I take the blindfold off now?"

"You sure can," I said with a smile.

He looked around at the large concrete building in front of us and looked confused.

"Animal Encounters? What is this place?"

"You'll see," I said with a smile, getting out and leading the way inside. As soon as we stepped through the doors I could smell hay and animal feed and hear the sound of monkeys and an elephant trumpeting.

"So," I said with a smile. "I did some research when I was planning our day and I found out that you really love animals, so I thought we could do an animal encounter where we get to interact with and hold exotic animals."

His eyebrows raised. "Really? Are you serious? I mean I love that idea, but today was supposed to be all about you and doing things you want to do. Why did you pick something I like?"

"Because I love animals too and I thought it would be nice to find things we'd both enjoy. It's always more fun doing something with somebody when they're having a good time too."

He smiled and looked down, laughing. "This may sound crazy to you but no woman has ever considered what I like to do when making plans for a day out with me."

"Really?" I laughed, scrunching my face. I wondered what kind of selfish women he had gone out with before.

"Yeah, it's always been them dragging me along to do stuff I hate, like shopping, getting manicures and pedicures, running errands. But I went along with it because it made them happy," he shrugged.

"Well I can't enjoy myself if the person I'm with is miserable so this way we both get to be happy. I figure we only have a couple more days left together so we might as well enjoy them," I told him and I could see a pained look behind his forced smile when I mentioned the short time we had left.

A woman in a khaki button up shirt and khaki shorts walked up and introduced herself and then led us over to a holding room. We had to stand there for a while before a guy came in holding a koala in his arms and both of us gasped because he was so ridiculously cute.

"You can hold him first," I told Dylan.

The man walked over and laid him into his arms and the koala wrapped his arms around him and held on, gripping onto his shirt. Dylan had the biggest smile on his face as he talked to the koala and petted it's soft fur and seeing him look so happy put a big smile on my face. When I first met him, he looked so tired and stressed out and overworked, so it was nice to see him smiling and looking genuinely happy.

After I held the koala too, the female trainer said, "Next stop is the tiger cage! Who's ready to meet some baby tigers?"

Both of our faces lit up and we smiled at each other before telling her yes. The fluffy little baby tigers she took us to first were so small we literally got to hold them in our arms and feed them with a bottle. They were orange and white with little black stripes and were the most adorable things I'd ever seen.

Then she took us in with ones that were a little bit older but still babies. They were walking around, playing with toys and wrestling around with each other. They were harder to hold because they had so much energy and didn't want to sit still. One of them started chewing on my fingers like I was a steak and he was so cute we both laughed. I looked over and could tell Dylan was enjoying this as much as I was.

We got to pet baby giraffes and a baby elephant and we held a sloth and then a slow loris that had huge eyes that looked like a stuffed animal. It was so cute I squealed and scared it and then I felt bad when it tucked its head under my arm and hid its face from me. That made Dylan laugh.

I was so sad when our time was over and it was time for us to leave. As we were walking towards the exit, Dylan was walking next to me and our arms and hands brushed against each other and I looked over at him and he looked over at me too.

I laughed and shook my head.

"Sorry. I just can't take you seriously right now in that disguise. I feel like I'm with someone's Great Uncle Ned that smokes cigars and cusses at the neighbor kids that ride their bikes through his yard," I laughed.

"Hey don't hate. I make these age spots look good," he said, wagging his eyebrows up and down at me and doing a little dance, grinding his hips back and forth. "See, I could be a sexy Uncle Ned."

Hearing him say that made me laugh and roll my eyes at him. "Whatever you say," I teased.

He really did have a good sense of humor. The nice thing about him being in this disguise was that I got to see the real him come out more when other people didn't know who he was. It was nice to see this fun, playful, lighthearted side of him.

When we got back to the car I slipped into the driver's seat again and put on his sunglasses, wagging my eyebrows up and down at him.

"Buckle up baby. It's gonna be a wild ride. We're gonna see what this puppy can do," I said with a smirk, gripping the steering wheel.

"You better be kidding," he laughed as he buckled his seatbelt. "Don't hurt my baby," he said, rubbing a hand across the dash.

"Now you're just trying to make me jealous. You like your car more than me don't you?" I asked with a hint of a smirk, before backing out of the parking space and heading down the street towards our next destination. I went the back way so we wouldn't hit the rush hour traffic on the interstate and it wasn't long before we were there.

I pulled up to the restaurant just as the sun was starting to set on the beach right behind it. It was a little hole in the wall, mostly unknown seafood place that had a back porch and balcony facing the beach strung with white Christmas lights.

"What?! Claws & Clams? This is literally my favorite restaurant in the world," he said with a surprised look and a smile.

"I know. When I was doing my research I saw your post on Twitter about how amazing this place is and I love seafood so I wanted to try it. I even called ahead and ordered two of the dishes you posted about so the food would be ready when we got here."

"Oh my gosh. I love you," he said with a laugh as he got out of the car and even though he was joking when he said it, just hearing those words come out of his mouth caught me off guard. It made me wish that he had meant them.

What was I saying? I couldn't fall for him. I was leaving in two days and I'd never see him again so I couldn't let myself think like that. I would only end up heartbroken.

We ate our food out on the old wooden balcony with chipping paint, that overlooked the ocean, sitting at a cozy little two person table that had a small oil lamp lighting it up and white Christmas lights strung on the rafters above us. There was soft island music playing in the background. We sat in silence for a little while as we cracked the crab legs, both laughing when a piece went flying into my hair. He reached out and picked it out for me and that made me smile.

"This is nice, getting to eat in peace without being bothered by anybody wanting an autograph or picture," he said, taking in a deep breath and exhaling it out.

I looked over at him as I popped some crab in my mouth, giving him a smile.

Right then a slow song started and the wooden dance floor by the beach surrounded by white Christmas lights was starting to fill up with a few couples.

"What do you say?" Dylan asked, standing up and holding his hand out to me. "Will you dance with this old man?"

Everything in me was saying this was dangerous and I was playing with fire. I should say no.

But for some reason the word that came out of my mouth was, "Okay," and I slipped my hand into his.
