this is the end, my beautiful friend

this is the end, my only friend

the end of our elaborate plans

the end of everything that stands

As the wind battled through Amelia's unruly blonde hair, her feet pounding on the concrete floor, people stared at her run by, curiosity filling their empty gazes. Who was she? What was the urgency of wherever she needed to go? What was her destination? Amelia didn't stop once. Faces flashed by that she wouldn't remember, and her heart raced in her chest.

That moment that carried that feeling was something she had never experienced before, something she had never felt before. Yet she never felt more certain that what she was doing, what she was searching for, is always what she was meant to do. Even if it didn't work out, even if the feeling wasn't meant to last, she had found it, and she meant to treasure it.

Amelia turned a corner, finally having reached the train station. Her lips broke into a smile, leaning her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. Panting slightly, she quickly climbed up the stairs, avoiding bumping into anyone.

A crowd of people walked her way, where the exit stood. A train had just arrived, and people had been quick to climb out and hurry to wherever they needed to be. Some smoke made Amelia hard to see, but she looked for an officer or an inspector to ask when the next train to Avonlea would arrive. But as her baby blue eyes scanned the crowd, there stood a face which already stared at her. In the admist of the crowd of people, their eyes found each other.

There stood none other than Gilbert Blythe.

If there was one feeling Gilbert normally felt a lack of, was certainty. He hadn't been certain of what to do with his life. He hadn't been certain of how he'd deal without his father, and then Mary. He hadn't been certain if whether Amelia had liked him back in the day. He hadn't been certain whether it was Winifred or Amelia.

But as he waited, with his bags in his hands for the people to climb out the train, he felt the most certain he had ever felt. He loved Amelia. He wanted to be the one to push her to follow her dreams, the one to wake up by her side. He desperately wanted for her face to be the first and last thing he saw on a day, and to be holding her hand in the dark hopeless times.

Amelia was his beacon of light.

He fought against the urge of pushing everyone out of his way, hoping she hadn't already boarded the boat. He impatiently tapped his foot on the red carpet, but soon enough he was able to crawl out. His eyes searched for the exit, where everyone seemed to be headed. And then his caramel brown eyes found her. She hadn't seen him yet, which made his heart race faster.

There stood none other than Amelia Covey.

Amelia and Gilbert approached each other, just staring into each other's eyes. Everyone around them seemed nonexistent, and they were in that moment. Gilbert's whole focus was Amelia, and he was hers. They both opened their mouths to speak, so much and yet so little to say. He chuckled, waving his hand to show that she should speak first.

But what she did was she spoke all of her feelings in actions as she pulled him down, kissing his lips ever so softly. Gilbert melted into the kiss, as she then pulled away. "Did you mean everything you wrote in the letter?" Gilbert nodded, blushing slightly at the thought of his slightly cheesy letter. He had never written a love letter before, yet he was glad it was meant for Amelia.

Her smile indicated she had loved reading every word, and soon their lips met again. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling slightly at the back end of his black curls as he leaned his hands on her waist. It finally felt like they had fitted in the last piece of the puzzle. Nothing felt as right and good, yet happy as that moment.

Gilbert opened his mouth to speak, making Amelia shake her head. "You don't have to say anything." he gulped, but felt like there was things he needed to say. "I just...I realise now how easier it would have all been if we had just said we loved each other from the beginning. But what makes me love you so much is that we have faced and won every obstacle. I'm not uncertain that we will face more challenges to come, but right at your side, I feel like I can overcome anything."

Amelia tried to fight her eyes welling up. "If I could turn back time, I would still make all the same decisions and keep the heartbreak we endured. For, at the end of the day, my heart was only yours to keep, loose and break. I wouldn't have it any other way." they leaned their foreheads together, and that feeling felt like it would last forever.

And it did.

Amelia Covey majored in the arts at Queens University, alongside her brother and best friends. Those four years at university, her and Gilbert went strong, and rumours had it he was to ask her for her hand in marriage. She was then offered a job opportunity in Scotland, yet Gilbert was offered one in Canada. They parted ways, heartbroken, thinking that was the end for them.

They reunited two years later in New York by accident. Realising they both had jobs there, Gilbert proposed. Amelia agreed, over the moon. They went back to Canada to get married and moved permanently in New York. Gilbert became a doctor and Amelia was a famous painter.

Then Amelia suffered a miscarriage, which made her depressed for a long time before she was pregnant again. Gilbert and her ended up having four kids: Flora Blythe, named after Amelia's mother who became obsessed with the sciences; John Junior Blythe, who later on became a singer; Mary Blythe, who loved sports; and Ruby Blythe, who painted like her mother.

Both Anne Shirley Cuthbert and Isaac Covey became teachers, and shortly got married after Isaac graduated first. They moved to the coast of Canada, not too far from Avonlea, where they taught at a boarding school. They had six children: James Matthew Covey, Amelia Junior Covey, twin girls Diana and Anne Covey, Shirley Covey and Bertha Marilla Covey.

Thanks to Amelia, Cole and Roy met while they both studied at Queens. They decided to rent an apartment together in Paris as Cole pursued his dreams in art and sculpture and Roy pursued his dreams in fashion designing. Roy ended up falling head over heels for Cole, and they adopted a small girl named Joyce.

Unfortunately, Diana and Jerry never managed to reconcile and go back to the way things were. Jerry remained in Canada and got married to a blonde named Annie. They weren't very rich, but they loved each other so, and were always welcome with the Cuthberts. Diana moved to London for an internship and fell in love with a rich man named Fred. They soon got married, but they soon discovered Diana wasn't able to have children. Fred soon became distant and Diana never felt comfortable in her marriage.

Ruby and Moody got engaged after graduating, but Ruby fell sick and then died of tuberculosis.

Bash and Miss Stacy grieved over the fact they both knew what it felt like to lose their partner. Miss Stacy was an amazing mother to Delphine and helped raise her next to Bash; of course, they never forgot about Mary. Delphine grew to be a very smart lady who fought for equality.
