Gilbert planted himself in front Bash, stretching his arms wide as he showed off another shirt, wanting opinions on which one to wear. The country fair was this week, and he wanted the chance to impress Winifred's parents, who happened to be going too, accompanying their daughter. Bash was trying to knit a yellow blanket for Delphine as he looked up unimpressed, raising an eyebrow. "What about this one?" Bash stopped his knitting for a second. "Looks the same as every other white shirt you've tried on."

Gilbert frowned, scoffing slightly as he approached the mirror, staring at himself as he pressed the buttons on. "This one requires cufflinks, which I don't have since Elijah made off with my father's." Bash rolled his eyes, as he continued his knitting. "Boy, I could knit you a shirt by the time you decide." he mocked, as Gilbert turned around, approaching Bash. "This white shirt is the key to making a good first impression to her parents." Bash slightly smirked at the boy, who frowned at him confused. "I thought you already met Amelia's father."

Gilbert blushed, frowning as he avoided Bash's gaze. "You know I meant Winifred's parents." he muttered under his breath, trying to push away the thought of Amelia out of his head, a pretty tough task, seeing as she was often in his mind. He headed to his room once again, trying to find what used to be his father's vest, before showing Bash. "So...does this mean you've completely moved on with Amelia? You're settling with Winifred?" Gilbert sighed, a conflicted look on his face.

"I'm fond of Winnie, but...she's no Amy." Gilbert shook his head, turning around to look at Bash. "Anyway, it's not like I can make her feel anything towards me." Bash smiled softly at the boy, sensing his heartbreak. "Are you completely sure she feels nothing at all?" when Gilbert didn't answer, Bash dismissed the question, not wanting to confuse the boy furthermore. "Then I guess it's Winifred. You do know that involving the parents means marriage?" Gilbert frowned, looking at Bash before looking down at his outfit. "I need to change." and he rushed off to his room, searching for another white shirt that would suit him better.

Amelia dipped her paintbrush in the black paint, softly mixing some white in as she stroked the canvas, forming a painting that she hoped would win in the country fair later on, the same afternoon. She brushed her hand across her face, swiping some sweat off as she admired her handiwork. She smiled, adding a few freckles to the face before looking up startled at the knock at the door. "I'll get it!" she shouted, as she was closest to the main door. She took her painting apron off and left it on a stool and headed towards the porch.

She swung open the door, surprised to see Gilbert with a bashful look on his face. She smiled at him, and opened the door wider to let him in. "Gil? What are you doing here?" he blushed at the nickname, the same way she did when he called her Amy. "I was just wondering if your father had some cufflinks I could borrow for the country fair." Amelia smiled at him amused, nodding. "Of course, I'm sure he wouldn't mind." she headed towards the living room, the boy following behind as she looked in the drawers, before handing them to him.

"Thank you." Amelia shook her head, dismissing it. Gilbert smiled amused as he pointed to her face. "You got some paint on your face." Amelia's face turned a soft red as she looked herself in the mirror and cleaned it off with some cloth. "Where you working on some painting for the fair's contest?" the blonde nodded, offering some tea to the boy, who refused. "Yeah, just finished the painting, hoping it dries in time for the fair." Gilbert quirked an eyebrow, waiting expectantly to be shown it. "Can I see?"

Amelia laughed, blushing again. "No, it's a surprise. You'll have to wait and see." Gilbert frowned mockingly, pouting slightly as he put his hands together to beg. "You won't even show your best friend?" Amelia giggled, hiding the laugh behind her hand as she shook her head, masking the fact her heart winced at the word friend. "Being my best friend gives you privileges. Not this, though." Amelia retorted, crossing her arms over her chest, not realising his heart winced too at the word friend.

He shrugged, imitating her as he crossed his arms over his chest. "I guess I'll have to be patient then." Amelia nodded in agreement, and then started to push him out the door. "Now get out. I need to get ready for the fair and you're not helping!" a laugh bubbled out of Gilbert as he grinned at her, taking his hat off as he bowed at her mockingly. "Whatever the lady orders." Amelia glared at him, shooing him off. Once he was gone, she leaned against the door, sighing as a soft smile appeared on her face.

"Gilbert Blythe...what are you doing to me?"

Amelia entered the fair, her baby blue eyes widening as she stared at everyone with such curiosity. The bright colours, the sweet smell of popcorn and candy, the unusual people that strode with such confidence. She held the painting under her arm, wrapped with a white cloth so no one would see it beforehand. She stumbled along, laughing as she saw a very tall man with clown paint on his face who waved down at her. Her father had not been able to make it, seeing as he had a lot of work, but he sent his best wishes. Her brother had wrote to her, saying he would be going, and he was going to bring Roy with him.

She entered the white tent that had a sign saying 'PAINT CONTEST' outside in bright yellow letters. She stood her painting in an empty spot on the long table, writing her name in front of it, before standing away. The blonde wore a minty green lace dress that hung above her knee. The dress was adorned with white lace flowers, and even if the sun shone brightly outside, it was still chilly as they stood near the sea, so she was glad she wore a long-sleeved dress. Her hands wore white gloves as she held a white parasol that leaned on her shoulder. She wore her short hair down for a change, as it blew softly behind her ears with the summer's breeze.

Once she realised she still had an hour before the contest held place, she decided to take a stroll around, wanting to participate in one of the many activities the fair offered.

On her walk, she stumbled across Miss Stacy, who wore pants as she shot glasses down, an activity that was meant for men but one in which she excelled at. Amelia raised her eyebrows, surprised as she approached her teacher. "Miss Stacy! One did not know you excelled at this certain activity. It's rather impressive." Muriel turned around and smiled caringly at her student, putting the gun down. "Amelia! It's very entertaining once you forget what others might think." the blonde nodded, looking down at the gun before putting her hand out. "May I try?" the teacher nodded, handing it over to Amelia.

Amelia placed her hands on the harmless weapon, which used metal balls instead of actual bullets as a safety net. She brought it up to her eye as she narrowed them, focusing on the target as she slowly pressed on the trigger, before the sound crackled in the air, echoing around as she just about hit the target, sending small shards of glass to the floor. Amelia smiled contently, handing the gun back to Miss Stacy who patted her in the back, looking at the source of the applause. There stood Anne and Diana, both wearing beautiful dresses that suited them both equally.

"Hey, it's nearly time for the painting contest. You ready?" the red-head asked her friend, giving her a reassuring smile to try and calm her nerves, noticing how she rubbed her palms together nervously. Amelia nodded, trying to shake the nerves off as she followed her two friends into the tent. A larger crowd had formed as they all awaited the judge's decision. Amelia realised more people had enrolled their own paintings, as she wiped the sweat of her palms. The trio approached Isaac, who stood in the corner observing everyone else.

Isaac gave Anne a short sweet kiss before greeting his sister with a smirk, noticing her nervous stance. Amelia frowned as she looked around. "Where's Roy?" she asked her brother, as Diana and Anne frowned and looked at each other, not knowing who this certain Roy was. "He was looking for you. Something about having to warn you about something important." before Amelia could question furthermore, Isaac shrugged, indicating he knew nothing more than the previously said. Amelia sighed, nodding as she turned around.

"Who's Roy?" the red-head asked Isaac as she intertwined their arms together, resting her head on his shoulder. "My roommate. He's friends with Amelia." Anne nodded, curiosity getting a hold of her as she stared at her friend. Amelia bit her nails nervously, realising the judge was getting closer to her painting. She looked at the entrance and realised who had just entered the tent. His black curls were hanging over his eyes as he clenched his jaw, looking around the room before his gaze settled on her. His hands were tucked in his pockets as his tall frame was slightly hunched over, freckles adorning the bridge of his nose.

Amelia smiled softly at him putting her parasol down as she adjusted her dress. "I'll be right back." she muttered to the rest, before slowly approaching him. This was the moment. As he stared at her and she stared at him. As every step she took towards his way she regained confidence. Something about his smile meant for her made it seem like the possibilities were endless, but there were all with him. It was him. In her mind, all of a sudden, she saw it all clearly. It was him. He was always there for her, in the highs and lows, pushing her to be the best person she could ever be. It was him. If someone would ask her what happiness felt like, she would describe this moment in which she discovered that it was him. It was always him. He had waited for her and it was him. It truly was him and that was all that mattered.

It seemed like the world went in a slower pace as she got closer. There was no doubt in her mind. She didn't know the consequences of what telling him were, but she didn't care. In that moment she knew exactly was she felt, and it was stronger than ever and she had to tell him. After all the waiting and desperately pining, she knew that there was nothing more in the world that she wanted to do that to tell him. She would risk everything. But with risk came reward so yes, she was willing to risk it. Because in that moment, she thought nothing would interfere. Nothing would be in between them once again. The path was clear, and on the other side stood him, staring at her they way she stared at him.

She stopped in front of him, mere footsteps away as her baby blue eyes got themselves lost in his hazel ones. She opened her mouth before shutting it, as his eyes slightly looked down at her pink chapped lips before he looked back up into her eyes. His eyebrow slightly frowned as an amused smile settled over his features as he awaited her to say something. "Were you to say something, Amy?" and before anything could stop her, before anything could warn her to tread carefully down the path she was stomping down, she fell. She fell hard.

"I like you, Gilbert. In a way I've never liked anyone before."

And her fall could only end in two ways; avoiding harm's way or falling right into harm's arms.
