"Let's go, boys. Change it up." a shout came across, as the men stopped what they were doing. The two friends looked at each other as they stopped working, the younger one wiping the sweat of his forehead with a dirty cloth. He got closer by as the two of them walked off, enjoying their time off work. "Iwouldn't mind one of those." said Bash, short for Sebastian, referencing to what had happened earlier that day. "One of those little, wailing fellas."

"Throw the ball with. Bouff when he backchats." Gilbert frowned in deep thought and nodded. "I could see that for you." A few hours ago they had found a black pregnant woman being kicked out of her home and giving birth do a breech child. Gilbert had really helped, delivering the baby safe and sound. "Got no way to raise him up right. You need land for that." Bash frowned and shook his head, both of them stopping to wash their hands and dirty faces.

"What kind of strange child were you anyways, Blythe? Needing to know about your own breech birth." Gilbert clenched his jaw and he stood up straighter, avoiding his friend's gaze.

"I didn't want to know about my birth. I wanted to know about my mother." he paused, as Bash stared at him transfixed. "So I asked my father." when Bash didn't give an answer, Gilbert answered the question practically written on his face. "She died giving birth to me."

"Sorry. My brain is slow." said Bash guiltily, feeling bad now. Gilbert shook his head and smiled. "It's alright."

"Didn't want Ruth to know that part." an awkward silence overtook the two as Bash scratched the back of his neck. "I don't want to be a farmer." Gilbert said firmly, adressing the elephant in the room.

"You said that before. Now you're sure?" Bash said amused, and Gilbert nodded, and muttered a soft yeah. "Guess there's other things calling out to you. Eh...doc?"

They both chuckled and continued their way, but some part of Gilbert felt oddly happy. As if he had discovered something that would change him.

Amelia sat with her legs crossed, giggling wildly with the girls as she hid her laughs behind the palm of her hand. Her golden hair hanged limply straight behind her back, a soft lavender dress adorning her body as her cheeks were tinted a soft pink, with a few spring freckles on her nose. They currently sat in Amelia's bedroom, a spacious place filled with light that came from her windows. The room was adorned white and mint green, all very organised, but all of her drawings and paintings were hanged on the walls.

The girls were chatting busily about Prissy, Jane's older sister, and Mr Phillips, their teacher, and their known infanuation. Jane was spilling how she thought that he would propose very soon. Others, like Tillie and Amelia, disapproved slightly about the age difference and how young Prissy was. The again, those times where the ones where ones where the earlier you get married, the better.

And it wasn't like Amelia was a saint. She had strong feelings for the youngest only son of the Blythe's, and she couldn't even deny it anymore. Not that she was thinking of marriage.

"I mean to have an official beau by the time I'm 15." added Ruby in all seriousness. "I just hope Gilbert is back by then." Amelia's smile faded, pressing her lips together as she played with her fingers. "Ruby, don't you ever think...I don't know...what if Gilbert doesn't like you that way..."

Ruby's head snapped towards Amelia, raising her eyebrows as Amelia avoided her gaze. "Who else would he like?" an awkward silence overtook the girls as Diana and Anne smirked, knowing exactly who Gilbert liked. "I've never even seen a real kiss before." Tillie admitted. "I once overhead Mrs Lynce share a kiss with a her husband." Jane giggled, looking around at the girls. "It sounded like a cow dragging it's hind hoof out of a swamp!"

Loud laughter overcame the room again, but it soon quieted down. "If someone were to kiss me, I'm afraid I'd do something silly, or...forget something I should do." Diana said, and the girls looked between themselves, worried. "What are the rules? Why don't they teach kissing etiquette?" Amelia nodded, not that she'd fancy kissing any boy. "I've seen my brother kiss a girl. It looks like they just pressed their lips together for a few seconds." Amelia said, as the girls listened curiously.

"How old is your brother?" asked Ruby, as the girls laughed at her. "You only think of beaus, Ruby." Ruby sat up straighted, raising her eyebrows. "What's wrong with that?"

"He's sixteen, and got a job over there at Scotland, but I don't think he's completely happy there." Amelia admitted, thinking about his recent letters and how eager he was to arrive and explore the new land. And while Amelia was really looking forward to seeing her brother, she was wishing he would stay. The subject was quickly averted, as Anne proposed the idea of playing a game. Something about romance.

A rapid knock resounded as the girls quieted down, curious on, what probably was Amelia's father, Frank Covey, wanted. "What do you want, dad?" there was no answer. Instead, the person knocked again, and Amelia sighed in annoyance, before standing up and opening the door. Her eyes widened and the biggest grin appeared on her face, as her eyes twinkled like a kid opening his christmas presents. "Isaac!"

There, infront of her, stood her slightly older brother, Isaac Covey.

Anne could easily see the resemblance between the two, even if they were two years apart. The hair colour was very similar, a sandy dark blonde with darker roots, the difference was that Amelia's was slightly straighter, while Isaac's was a mess of curls on top of his head, with some curls falling into his eyes. Both pair of eyes were blue, but Amelia's was a grayish blue, while Isaac's was a greenish blue. They were both rather pale, as Isaac was whole head taller than her.

Amelia pressed her body against his as she wrapped her arms around him, with the biggest smile on her face. He chuckled, leaning his head on top of hers, as the girls awed' at the sight. Diana herself, was very glad of this, seeing as Amelia ws missing that spark in herself for a while now. She was glad she was back on her feet.

When Amelia finally decided to let go, she started to introduce everyone. "Everyone, this is my brother, Isaac. Isaac, this is Jane, Tillie, Ruby, Diana and Anne." Isaac's gaze stopped on the red-head as he sent her a cheeky grin, to which Anne blushed and flustered under his gaze, before he looked away. "It's a pleasure to meet my sister's mates." his heavy scottish accent pulled through as Ruby sighed happily.

"Hope Amelia hasn't been too much trouble. Always very passionate, this one." Isaac put a hand on the top of her head and messed up her hair. Amelia groaned and pushed him away, as Isaac laughed.

"Takes one to know one."

Gilbert stood on the boat's balcony, as he leaned over and stared at the horizon. People passed him with not a second glance as they continued their own daily lives. The only person who came close was his friend. "Canada. Always wanted to go."

"You're daring, coming to this level of the deck. Fireman hears about you coming up here, you can expect trouble." Gilbert changed the subject, not wanting to get into the subject of returning home, and what that would mean. "I can live down trouble. I want to see where I'm headed for once. Feel the wind on my face."

And while they were both talking playfully, the tone of seriousness was not ignored. "Avonlea ahead of me. Ten years on this ship humpin' coal. I earned this." Bash said happily, with a hint of pride in his voice, before turning to look at Gilbert. "Besides, what they going to do? Sack me? Toss me overboard?" they both chuckled softly into the wind.

"Worst-case scenario, I get the latrine." Gilbert rubbed his hands together, before answering. "If my choices were that or latrine duty, I might take my chances with the Atlantic." he joked, as Bash smiled.

"Choices." he paused. "I like that word. Things are going to change startin' right now." Gilbert nodded, and agreed. Laughter was heard behind them, but it was easily ignored, focused on the conversation at hand. "And how do you feel about that lass of yours? What was her name again?"

"Amelia." Gilbert replied quickly, as Bash smirked cheekily at him. Bash could see clearly that Gilbert had feelings for a certain blonde he spoke so much about. He was in denial, but Bash saw the way his lit up when she was mentioned, or how he would frown in deep thought afterwards, and look guiltily. And Bash was going to do everything in his power to help these two once he got back.

Because he could see how happy it would make Gilbert.
