Felt so close but you were far away
Left me without anything to say
Amelia let her creativity flow, as she pursed her lips in concentration, her hair tied off her face in a light yellow ribbon. She had a few dried blothes of paint covering her face, hands and dress, but that didn't bother her in the moment. She swiflty moved the paint brush over the canvas, bright colours filling the once white background. She looked infront of her, and picked blue mixed with a little white and continued painting.
Scrunching her toes, Amelia felt the softness of the sand, still damp from the retreating tide, as the gusting breeze blew towards her, her hair falling back nicely on her back. The soft sounds of the waves breaking against the rocks helped her relax, the gentle spring sunshine felt like energy on her fingertips.
It was a day for dreaming, allowing time to move fast and slow.
Amelia smiled at her finished landscape painting of the beach, admiring her friend Anne who was splashing about in the water, as Marilla sat not far behind her, and Matthew was sinking his toes in the cold edge of the sea. The Cuthberts had been kind enough to invite Amelia with them to their trip. She had never gone to the Avonlea beach before, so when Anne had asked her, she said yes inmediately. She never imagined that the view would be that gorgeous. Anne waved at her from where she swam, her laughter filling the silent air. "Amelia! You must come for a swim, the water is simply divine!"
Amelia took her shoes off and her dress, leaving her only in her undergarments. She slowly made her way in, a cold shiver creeping up her back as she was soaked in by the soft waves hitting against her legs. She couldn't help but remember that time where she swam in the lake with her friends, Diana, Ruby, Jane, and Gilbert. Oh, Gilbert. She remembered the way he had chased her, and picked her up bridal style when he caught up to her. How he had looked down into her soft baby blue eyes with such admiration and mischief. How that one simple look had sent thrill down her spine. And how she never forgot that one look.

She was woken up from her thoughts when Anne splashed the salty water right into her face. She squeeled in excitement and started to run away when she saw the look of vengance in Amelia's eyes. The blonde young teen chased after the redhead and laughed and splashed until they were more than tired.
Marilla chuckled at the two girl's mischief. She admired from afar how the both of them had grown in eight months. Anne had definitely grown taller, her long legs proved it very much. Her hair was still has red as ever, but perhaps a little bit darker. That would make Anne's day much better. She had twice as many freckles splattered across her face, spending her summer days in the warm sun. She had also grown more mature, not getting as angry and not caring as much what other people thought about her.
Amelia, on the other hand, wasn't much taller. Marilla believed the blonde would always be rather small for her age. She was growing to become a very beautiful young woman. Her hair had become lighter, nearly a whitish colour instead of that dark blonde she had when she was younger. Her eyes, on the other hand, where a darker blue, with specks of green in them. She was more recomposed now, standing straighter and more sensible. Marilla knew the talk of the town, ( thanks to Mrs Lynde ) and she knew she was still hurting from Gilbert Blythe's leaving.
But little did Amelia know, that as she stared at the horizon, Gilbert was thinking about her too.
When Amelia found out from Anne that there might me gold in Avonlea, she was left agape. Gold in Avonlea! If it were only possible! Perhaps if there was, her father would permit her to hand it out to those unfortunate enough to not have any, seeing as Amelia's family was rather rich already. She stared down, whispering to her friends which were laid down next to her, peeking through the holes. They weren't exactly supposed to be there, but this was too big to be missed! "Father is quite preoccupied at the prospect." Diana said, holding a seldom face as she stared down at Nathaniel, who just confirmed that there was gold in Avonlea.

"Do you really think that we will all be rich like you, Diana, or Amelia?" giggled Ruby, making Anne smile at the idea of being able to have beautiful gowns like Diana and Amelia, with puffed sleeves and all. A loud outburst went on, as people shouted their doubts and questions. Amelia suddenly sat up, worry written all over her face. "I-I have to write to Gilbert." when she saw the worried and doubtful faces of Diana and Ruby, she added "to let him know about the gold." Ruby quickly pipped in. "Gilbert?" that quickly got the attention of Ruby.
"But you don't even know where he is." said Diana fearfully. Amelia frowned and looked down thoughtfully. She wasn't listening to the conference anymore. There was only one thing going round in her head ; if she managed to tell Gilbert about the gold, he might come back. Amelia didn't want to force him to stay, but she desperately needed to see his face one last time. "Wait...I might have an idea on how to find out." Anne quickly stood up, and motioned for Amelia to follow, before heading outside. "Anne! Amelia!" softly called out Diana, before following too.
It was nightfall the moment Amelia got back home. She crept back upstairs silently, left the piece of paper Anne had lent her to write the letter and quickly jumped into her bed. She lay there between the thin sheets and thought about what she could tell him. They hadn't spoken in about eight months. It needed to be perfect.
Also thank you so much for 8k!!
