"this girl is one fire"

Amelia had a hard time falling asleep that night. Her father and her had a discussion consulting her brother, and it ended with Amelia storming away from the dinner table and locking herself in her bedroom.

Her brother was Isaac Covey. He still lived in Scotland, and Amelia was forced to leave him behind. Not that she worried about him too much; she knew that when she legally turned into an adult, she would go and live with him. Her brother always had her back. He was 16 years old, and looked a lot like her. Blond curly hair, blue eyes, and a pale complexion, you could say they were twins if they were the same age.

But even tho she didn't worry about never seeing him again, because she would, she would not agree with her father if he insulted him. Isaac was a brave and courageous man, who had the courage to stand up to Mr Covey and leave the household, promising his younger sister that he would come back one day and take her with him.

And if Amelia was forced to choose, after a while, it would always be Isaac. He loved and cared after her after all the pain they both felt, something their father wasn't able to do.

So she didn't just sit there and listen to her father scorn her brother's name.

It was very early in the morning, just past midnight when she woke up after just two hours of sleep. The heavy smell of smoke and the loud bells woke her up, and it wasn't until then that she realised that her house, was on fire. She choked out a gasp and looked out of the window. She could see no one. Of course. Her bedroom was at the back of the house, so her window showed her back garden. Everyone must be on the front side of the house.

Amelia had no time to hesitate. The flames were entering her room, slowly burning her meaningless possessions. She quickly ran into the bathroom, which was still untouched by the fire and locked herself in.

and then she started screaming for help.

Anne had just arrived with Marilla on the scene. Diana quickly hugged her and told her that she missed her. Men were shouting, women were screaming, the panic showing on all of their faces. Especially on Mr Covey, Gilbert, Anne and Diana's faces. They all just realised... where the hell was Amelia?

And the Mr Covey remembered the events of last night. He visibly paled and chocked a sob. He had already lost his wife to death and his son to pride. He couldn't loose his daughter too. "Amelia!" he shouted as loud as he can, trying not to cry in front of a public. "She's still in there! my daughter is trapped in there!" most people stopped what they were doing. Some of them gasped.

And then Diana screamed.

"Amelia!" she sobbed and feel on her knees to the ground.

Gilbert handed the bucket to another man and climbed down the ladder. "Excuse me!" he shouted. When he reached the ground, he ran in the direction of the door. Many men and women tried to stop him, but he continued. He didn't know what he felt for Amelia, but he didn't think he could live without knowing. He needed to save her.

Anne got up and ran towards Gilbert. "Gilbert! Wait!" he didn't stop and continued running to the house in flames."Gilbert! I have a plan." that made him stop.

"Anne, there's no time for plans! Amelia could be dying! I can't let her die." Anne nodded. "I know. But I know how to stop the fire." when Gilbert didn't speak, Anne continued. "Fire needs oxygen. I'll close all the windows and doors to slow it down. You go after Amelia. Mr Covey told me her room is at the back on the top floor." Gilbert nodded and ran into the house.

The house was in flames. Pieces were falling down, and both teenagers had to be careful not to get burned by the flames. Sweat covered them both quickly. Anne made her way through the ground floor first, closing all the windows and doors. Gilbert quickly ran up what was left of the stairs, but then quickly got lost. He looked in all the rooms, and then he heard her. She was screaming, and it was faint, so he gathered her room was down the hall.

He checked in the last room, but he couldn't see her. But then he heard her. She was coughing hoarsely. Gilbert entered the room, careful not to touch the flames and entered the bathroom. And he saw her.

She was crouched on the corner of the room. Her hair was covering her face, as she coughed. Seeing as there were no windows, she didn't realise Gilbert was there because of the amount of black smoke in the room. He walked towards her and put his hands on her shoulders. She jumped and looked straight at him.

"Gilbert?" she whispered, before coughing again. And that moment she though he looked like he was crying, but soon forgot about it when the events finished. Both of their faces were covered in ashes. Gilbert picked Amelia up and carried her out of her room.

"I'm scared, Gilbert." he looked at her, with an emotion Amelia couldn't read from his eyes. "I'm here Amelia. It's going to be okay." She faintly closed her eyes. She was exhausted, and her lungs couldn't take it anymore. Gilbert saw and shook her. "Please, Amelia, don't close your eyes. Try to keep them open." she nodded and did her best.

Anne was already outside when Gilbert arrived with Amelia in his arms. He slowly lay her down on the ground, and she coughed profusely. "I'm okay, I'm okay." Diana hugged her tightly. "How can you say that? Quick, someone bring her a blanket!" she was soon handed a blanket, and wrapped it around her body.

When the panic was over, Mr Covey kneeled down next to her daughter. "I though I was going to loose you." and then he proceeded to hug her. Amelia was surprised. She couldn't remember how her father's hug felt like. It felt so good. She hugged him back, and they remained like that for a moment.

It was later in the morning. The fire had stopped, but the house was still burned and black from the ashes. Everyone was stood facing the house, as the minister said a few words.

"And we thank Thee, O Lord, for your mercy. And of some have compassion making a difference." Gilbert looked at the blonde girl, who was wrapped in a blanket and was still covered in ashes, but not as many as before. "Others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." he hadn't had a chance to speak with Amelia. Everyone had crowded her, and she didn't have a chance to go over to him, but they had locked eyes.

"Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy..." and then they locked eyes again. and as the minister was giving his speach to thank the Lord for his mercy, the two teenagers fell a bit deeper for each other as they just stared at each other, speaking a million different emotions just with their eyes.

"... we thank thee for watching over us and keeping all in our community safe from harm." as they say, the eyes are the window to our souls.

"Praise be to God Almighty."

All of them were to be distributed. Amelia and her father were going to stay with the Barry's. The Gillis, who lived next door and their house had also been burned, were going to be billeted out. Ruby would be staying with Anne, and her parents in Rachel's house. Diana walked over to Amelia and smiled. "I'm glad everything turned out okay." Amelia chuckled.

"Well, apart from having two houses burned down, everything is cheerful." both girls laughed and side hugged. "You know, Gilbert hasn't stopped looking at you since he pulled you out of your house." smirked Diana, and Amelia looked behind her to see that indeed, Gilbert Blythe was looking at her while speaking to a man she didn't recognize. As soon as he realised, he looked away.

"He's probably just worried about my health being. We hadn't had a chance to talk properly after he saved my life." Diana scoffed. "Well, he definitely was worried." Amelia looked at her with curiosity in her eyes. "What do you mean?"

"Well, as soon has he heard that you were still inside, he ran inside like a bullet. He was nearly in tears." Diana giggled and nudged Amelia with her elbow. "He sure does like you, Amelia." Amelia looked at him again, and couldn't help admire him from afar. The sun hit his face, so his Hazel eyes were sparkling. His jaw was clenched, which gave him a badass vibe, and Amelia didn't mind.

"Do you really think so?" she asked Diana.

"Oh, I know so."
