"do you want the truth or something beautiful?"
Her feet skidded through the grass, as she laughed, out of breath. She had only met Anne a couple of hours ago, but she felt like she knew her since forever. Anne had such a way with words, and it felt like the three of them were meant to be friends till the end of time. She quite admired her bright red hair and her freckled face, Amelia thought it was unique and beautiful.
On the other hand, she had met Diana a couple of weeks ago, when she moved to Avonlea from Scotland. They had become friends instantly; she didn't exactly know why. They had just clicked, and she liked how Diana was polite and welcoming, unlike the other girls who were vain and were girlish.
As the three girls reached to a stop, tired of running through the big wide fields, Anne let out a sigh, admiring the beautiful view. "You're so smart Anne. I never would have though to sell poems for train fare." Diana said. "And you're home in time for the church picnic. Did I tell you we're hosting it here?" Diana paused and smiled at Anne. "I'm really glad you're back, Anne."
"Me too Anne." added Amelia shyly. Anne smiled at both girls. Amelia wasn't as polite and outgoing as Diana. She was quieter and timid, but had a big wave of emotions inside of her, bottled up. "Well, you two are the only ones. well, Matthew seems to be, but he must have talked her into it." she exhaled. "That's not true Anne."
"Oh, miss Cuthbert wasn't happy to see me. She didn't care a whit." Anne said, so sure of her answer, not being used to so many people caring about her. Amelia knew the feeling, as for her whole life she had never been surrounded by so many people who cared about her. "But Rachel Lynde told father that miss Cuthbert was torn asunder after you left." Amelia argued, and Diana nodded.
"Not possible." Anne still argued, shaking her head. "You're very stubborn." laughed Amelia. "It's hard to believe she was sorrowful when she doesn't seem to like me at all." Diana shrugged her shoulders. "At least you're home." All three girls hugged tightly for a couple a seconds, breathing the fresh air. "I've missed you." adds Anne. "Both of you." she sighs and let's go. "And I don't want to seem ungrateful, but it did fill my heart with joy to be back at Green Gables!" Anne climbed the fence, and the other two girls followed suit.

Amelia awoke the next morning, feeling extremely chirpy. It was Anne's first day at school, and Amelia was excited to show her around. she didn't have many friends; her only was Diana. It wasn't because she was not pretty or unkind. In fact, the girls envied her looks and kindness; she had beautiful long golden locks, thin rosy lips and soft blue eyes. Her pale skin suited her physique like a well fitted glove. She was petite, but non less beautiful. she was shy and kind, but stubborn and hot headed. Most boys had a liking for said girl, even tho she repeated she had no interest in boys whatsoever.
She walked to school, like every other morning. she had gotten used to the early morning breeze and the soft rays of sunshine on her face. To get to school she had to walk through the woods first, before meeting the fields. She could take the main road, and arrive at school faster, but she enjoyed the woods more.
The grass was green, the sky was blue and the sun shone bright. She was sure today was going to be joyful.
Amelia was doing a light sketch on a piece of paper when she heard Diana shout Anne's name. She hurried over when she realised Anne had just arrived and hugged her new found friend. "My, what have you done to your hat?" Diana asked. The reason she asked was because Anne had added different kind of flowers on her hat, like lavender and daisies. "Well, I wanted to make a good first impression, and it was so plain." all three girls chuckled."You're making an impression alright." Anne smiled brightly and Diana's said words.
"Welcome to the first day of school." Diana and Amelia said in unison, laughing at the coincidence. Anne left her hat and sweater and set her things on her new desk. She'd be sitting next to Amelia, even tho Amelia and Diana always sat together, but it was her first day at school, so they let it slip. Two boys, Moody and Charlie came up to them.
"Hi Amelia." both boys said, and she just rolled her eyes.

"Hi boys. this is Anne. Anne, this is Moody and Charlie." the boys smiled at the redheaded girl, before setting their gaze on Amelia. "Won't you spare us a date, Amelia?" Amelia scoffed. "I've told you a million times, and the answer is still no." she replied.
"Don't talk to the boys. They're ridiculous." said Diana to Anne."Nice to see you too, Diana." said Charlie, before they walked away. "Are all boys interested in you, Amelia?" laughed Anne. "I wish they weren't."she muttered, and all three girls laughed. "All boys are stupid." she added. "All except Gilbert Blythe. He's dreamy, but he won't be here today." Diana added. "Do you know Gilbert?" Anne asked Amelia and she shook her head. She hadn't met this cute boy all the girls talked about.
"I have no interest in boys."
Before they could continue their conversation, a group of girls walked towards them. Diana smiled to them.
"This is Jane Andrews and Josie Pye and Ruby Gillis and Tillie Boulter." Diana introduced to Anne, pointing at them while she mentioned them.
Jane was quite a plain girl. long brown hair and brown eyes with a yellow dress, she wasn't someone who stood out of the crowd. Josie was another matter. with her blonde hair and brown eyes, the girl was rather pretty and the leader of the group. she was usually fairly unkind, but the other girls still stuck together with her. Tillie, with her green dress, brown hair and hazel eyes, she was a bit overweight but fairly pretty. Ruby, being the smallest of the group, had quite a childish face. with her pink dress and golden hair, she was very emotional and insecure.
"Hello Anne." said Jane, while Tilly added brightly "Nice to meet you."
"It is a scrumptious pleasure to make your acquaintances, and I shall do my utmost to prove myself worthy of your friendship." Anne answered and the other girls looked at her with distaste. "uh... Anne loves to read, and she knows ever so many big words." added Diana. "Does she use them all in every sentence?" Josie sneered, and Anne's smile faltered.
"Some of us like to spend our time wisely, instead of trying to look prettier while instead, looking uglier." Amelia defended Anne, and the other girls laughed while Josie scowled at her.
"Why do they make you wear that old-lady dress?" Josie sneered again. "It's just nice to have something new." Anne stammered. "If you're an orphan, I suppose. I would be caught dead in it." Diana glared at Josie, and walked away with Anne and Amelia. "Ignore Josie, Anne. she's just jealous and mean." Amelia said and Anne smiled. "I'm just glad to have you both." they hugged and walked out of school.
Amelia looked towards the fields. She felt sorry for Anne but she knew she was strong. But no one deserved to be treated like that. Amelia wasn't always treated bad, but she knew being interested in art and painting made her queer, so she made her passion a secret not even Diana knew about.
