summary :Gilbert finds your diary and tells you how beautiful you are because you wrote about your insecurities

You were sitting in a circle next to Diana and Ruby as Anne walked in with a big smile on her face.

"Someone looks happy" – Josie said as she rolled her eyes.

Anne placed herself down and ignored Josie's comment.

"Why are you so happy today Anne?" – Diana asked her, as Anne emptied her basket.

"I have the most exquisite idea" – she said, holding a little notebook against her chest.

You looked at the strange notebook she had in her hand and frowned.

"Oh, do tell us Anne!" – Diana asked her over-excited.

Anne took a deep breath and placed the notebook on the floor "Diaries!" – was the only word she said.

"Diary?" – you repeated soft.

Anne nodded to you and you smiled shy back.

Anne held the notebook in the air "A diary is your closest friend, it knows all your secrets and desires."

Everyone moved closer to Anne as she was telling everyone about the wonders of having a diary.

"Isn't it the most romantic thing that you know, a secret diary. Every girls dream" – she said as she let her fingers slide against the notebook.

All the girl giggled at the thought of having their own diary, except Josie she just rolled her eyes.

"If you think I'm going to participate in this childish nonsense than you are mistaken" – she replied as she crossed her arms.

"But it will be an adventure and a challenge, to keep it safe and write all your deepest thoughts into it" – Anne said, already dreaming away.

Josie scoffed "I'm not joining your little diary club". She then got up and asked for the other girls to follow her.

Everyone staid seated, since they deeply wanted to have a diary of their own.

Josie stomped her foot angry down and left furious.

Everyone giggled once she left.

"Where do we get a diary Anne" – you asked her shy, fumbling a piece of your skirt.

"That's the beauty of it Y/n, a diary can be anything" – she said, drawing everyone closer to her.

"For instance," – she continued "a few pieces of paper put together make a perfect diary" – she said as she pretended to put some pieces of paper together.

"But a notebook like this one is of course more convenient, don't you think" – You nodded at her comment and was hanging on Anne's lip. She was always so good with words, every word she said sounded like violins playing.

"But we don't have any notebook's?" – Ruby suddenly asked confused.

The other girls agreed, and you noticed them being disappointed that they hadn't had a notebook to write in.

"Lucky for you girls, I have plenty" – Anne said, holding like 6 notebooks in her hand. Each of them had a different colour and texture.

Everyone laughed and was overjoyed that Anne had a diary for them.

You and the other girls quickly grabbed one. You grabbed a blue one with a little flower on it.

You looked at the diary for a few moments and let your fingers slide against its cover.

Everyone grabbed a pen or pencil and flipped it open, eager to write something down.

"But what do we wright in it?" – you asked Anne, the other girls looked at you and nodded as they agreed on your comment.

"Well, anything you like" – she replied, already writing stuff down.

"Can I write about Gilbert?" – Ruby asked her, daydreaming away.

All the girls giggled, and started to write down whatever they liked.

You were the only one having trouble with writing something down, they only thing you had written down was your name on the first page.

You grabbed your diary and got up "I think I might get some inspiration outside".

Anne looked at you and smiled "Of course, being outside might stir your imagination. I mean being surrounded by the most beautiful trees in Avonlea gives you the most exciting stories".

You nodded and quickly rushed outside holding your diary against your chest.

You sat down on a log and took a deep breath as you opened the first page.

The boys were playing in the background and you kept staring at your blank page.

"Dear Diary" – you started to write down.

Your diary started to grow on you? You've had it now for almost a week. You filled page after page with exciting stories, memories and your feelings.

Sitting down between everyone's coats, you were writing down about your insecurity.

"Dear Diary" – you started.

"I worry, I worry that maybe.

I'm not good enough, I'm not as smart as Anne or beautiful as Diana.

I'm not an artist like Cole or an excellent student as Gilbert.

I'm not good enough or beautiful and I will never be.

I try and try to be like them but I always fail.

Anne told me that poems may help me how I feel and I think I found the most perfect one that describes me.

Today my forest is dark, the trees are sad and all the butterflies have broken wings.

I feel like one of those butterflies, broken, ugly and not good in anything.

Will I ever find something that will help me get over this fear."

A single tear fell on your page as you finished writing.

You quickly wiped your tears away and putted your diary into your basket, or so you thought you did.

"Ready to go Y/n" – Anne said, as she and Diana were waiting for you to go home.

You nodded and tangled your arm around Diana's.

Gilbert left the group of boys to get his coat when he noticed something between the coats.

Something blue caught his eye, he pulled some coats aside and found a blue notebook laying down.

He frowned and picked it up, examining the cover.

"Are you coming Gilbert?" – Moody said, patting him on the back.

Gilbert replied with a quick yes and hid the notebook in his coat, he would examine it further at home.

When he got home he took the notebook from his coat and placed in on the table.

He putted away his coat and stared at the notebook for a moment.

He reached out his hand to open it but he stopped before he touched it.

"I shouldn't read this" – he said to himself, shaking his head.

He turned away as he scratched the back of his head.

"But ..." – he said, turning around again "If I don't then I don't know to whom this belongs".

He sighed deep and tried to open it again with shaking hands.

"No, I shouldn't it" – he called out loud, desperately rushing his hands through his hair.

Gilbert kept pacing around the table where the mysterious notebook was laying down in the middle.

He kept telling himself why or why not he should read it.

"Just the first page then Blythe" – he said, convincing himself.

He reached with one hand to the notebook as he half-covered up his eyes with his other hand.

As he felt his fingers touch the cover he froze for a moment, after a deep breath and some hesitation he opened the notebook.

He removed his hand from his half-covered eyes and looked at the first page.

He noticed a name was written at the left top side of the page.

"Y/n? this is Y/n's notebook?" – he said, confused.

He then let his eyes go lower down the page and panicked once he saw the words 'dear diary' written.

Out of shook he placed it quickly back on the table. He placed it down too quickly because the diary fell from the table, open with its pages against the floor.

He quickly grabbed it and whiteout doing it on purpose his eyes read a few lines of the open page.

It was the page that you wrote today, about how insecure you are.

Gilbert kept reading the page as he sat down, he never knew how insecure you felt.

He always thought you were a very beautiful and smart girl.

The next morning you were desperately looking around in the classroom. Everyone else was still playing outside while you ran around the classroom desperately searching for your diary.

"Where is it?" – you said, as you pulled almost everything out of your desk.

Outside Gilbert walked over to Anne and asked her where you were.

She told him you were inside and he quickly rushed inside.

As he walked in he witnessed you desperately searching everyone's desk.

Gilbert took of his hat and stepped closer to where you were.

You didn't noticed him at first, so he had to clear his throat to get your attention.

You turned around shocked by the sudden sound.

"Gilbert?" – you said, once you saw him.

He walked closer to you, step by step. "I believe this is yours?" - he said, pulling out your diary from underneath his coat.

"My diary!" – you called out of excitement and pulled it out of Gilbert's hands.

You pressed it close to your chest as you took a few deep breaths.

Realizing what just happened you frowned your eyebrows "How? ... How did you get this?"

"I ... I found it yesterday" – he replied shy

"You did?" – you asked him, concerned if he had read it

"Yes, and Y/n I'd like to tell you that you are a beautiful girl" – he said, fumbling his hat "Y/n I like you for who you are and you don't have to be like any of us, you are ..."

You interrupted him angry "You! read! My! Diary!" – crossing your arms furious.

Shocked by your reaction, he suddenly stuttered "I ... It was an accident Y/n"

"How can reading someone's diary be an accident?" – you asked him, while glaring at him.

"It fell open and when I picked it up I read some lines by accident" – He said, reassuring you it was an accident. "I swear"

You wanted to speak again but Gilbert covered your mouth with his hands.

"Just listen to me Y/n before you go all mad girl on me again".

You glared at him even more and tried to release his hands from your mouth.

Gilbert kept his hands in place and continued "look Y/n, you are an extraordinary girl and don't even think for a second you are less worthy because you are special to me".

Your eyes widened as Gilbert said those words about you.

"I don't want you to be like Anne, Diana, Cole or even me for that matter" – he took a deep breath "I want you to be like you. You are smart and beautiful, you just don't see that."

Gilbert softly removed his hands from your mouth and you let yourself fall down on a seat near Gilbert.

"I ... I ... No one has ever said any of those things to me" – you replied, feeling tears come up.

Gilbert kneeled in front of you "Don't you see Y/n, you are perfect in your own way and don't ever try to change".

You wiped your cheek clean from some tears and smiled at him "Thank you Gilbert, that means a lot to me".

Gilbert smiled back at you and pulled you close for a hug.

For a moment you were glad that Gilbert found your diary because now you know that he believes in you. His words made you think you were someone special and that there was no need in being insecure anymore.
