Y/n's pov

An endless plain of darkness, a barren wasteland that was once a beautiful world. I was once the hero of this land, but now I am it's prisoner. Held here by the legendary weapon that I once used to protect the people from calamity. My chains firmly wrapped around my body, holding me to the ground as the sprouts of the calamity destroy what is left in this dimension. This is my punishment for failing to protect the world from the seed of calamity. I was so close to destroying the seed, but before my chains could crush the threat, the seed had sprouted out into my world and destroyed everything. I was not the first hero to fail to protect my world, and I was sure I wasn't going to be the last. The seed require a world to release its built up power so it selects 2 worlds and have them choose which will be destroyed. The waves of calamity connect the worlds together through the dimension where the seed resides. Monsters leave through the gaps formed creating the waves that the Heroes must fight against in order for their world to continue existing. If both worlds can fight off enough waves for the seed to release all of it's power, then the calamity will stop. Sadly that takes too long for any world to survive, so the worlds have heroes with the purpose of getting rid of another world's heroes. I was the first hero to try to fight the seed directly, but in order to do that I had left my world without a hero. I was the reason for the end of my world and now I must watch as the calamity releases all of it's power upon my world.

Suddenly, the fissures in the sky that connected my world to the calamity dimension had completely covered the sky, and everything around me had vanished. Leaving only me behind, chained to nothing. I heard a voice speak out from everywhere "Chained one. you have failed in your goal of protecting your world, but you have not been destroyed. do you know why?" I stared into the abyss around me "This is my punishment..." "" I frowned and closed my eyes "why would there be a second chance, I failed my only purpose. This world is gone" "" "when I was supposed to be?" ". " I opened my eyes, in front of me was a purple form, the seed Of calamity that I had failed to destroy "why. why does it have to be me!" " . " "and what if I fail that world as well" " Then I will move you to another. Until the day you are able to stop my calamity " "but I'm not special in any way. I'm just a failure" " " The chains wrapped around me disappeared, only for a shackle to appear on my wrist, connected to a purple chain. "Great, now I am even more of a prisoner..." " " "cursed hero?" "" "wait!" I was suddenly falling down, away from the seed. Only for my vision to fade.

When I opened my eyes I was in a forest, I looked around, not seeing any other living person around. I slowly sat up and looked down at my wrist, The shackled had been Changed into a bracelet with the chain attached to it, and a purple gem on the top of it. I wrapped the chain around my arm so it wouldn't get caught on anything. I looked down at the status Icon in my vision and pulled up my stats. My level had went down to 50. The 7 years of training I had in the other world was reduced to a mere 50 levels. I frowned and looked at my title [Chain Hero] It hadn't changed despite my weapon now being called [the Cursed chains]. I checked my abilities, most of them had been locked because of my lowered level but they were all still there. There was also new branches of skill off to the side labeled [Calamity] and [Curse series]. I looked through the inventory that I had from my last world, a lot of the things were still in there but a few things had a cursed debuff on them so I couldn't use them. I took a cloak out of my inventory and put it on, the cloak would hide my chains and cover my face. Nobody knew me in this world but I didn't want people to know me yet. I climbed up a tree and looked around the area. I saw a road nearby with a group of cage wagons being escorted by soldiers. The cages were filled with a bunch of people with animal features. I frowned and climbed down the trees, deciding to follow them to where they are going.

They went into a city so I couldn't keep following them without getting caught. I waited until they were all gone before entering into the city myself. I needed to find a place to gather information so I looked around until I found a library. It wasn't large but there would be enough for me to gather information about the languages and other basic knowledge about this world. I started with books to learn the languages, it was similar to the language from my last world so it was pretty easy to learn. After finishing with that I went over to the history books and read through a few of them, I got a grasp on the basic laws of the land as well as knowledge about the countries of the world. I also found out that this world has 4 heroes they summon instead of a single hero. I sighed as I put away the books that I read, walking out of the library and looking around the city. I would need to get a map soon so I need to find a way to make some money I walked around near the exit of the city and found a person who was exchanging monster drops for some coins. After figuring out what monsters were in the area I headed out of the town to hunt. The only things nearby were [angry rabbit] and [hungry wolf]. I easily killed a few of each with my chain, putting some of their fur into the gem on my bracelet in case it could unlock any new variants for my chain. When I change my chains I can do a few things; Change length, change texture, change the end piece, or change connections. I can make my chains shorter or longer depending depending on my level (2 feet [60 cm] minimum, extra 3.3 feet [1 meter] per level). I can change the texture of each chain link to make them rough, sharp, smooth, or anything i can think of. the piece at the end of my chain is normally a metal lug but I can change it depending on the things that I've fed the chain. changing the connections allows for me to have the chains hold certain shapes, like a makeshift spear, a hook, or anything I can think of.

I headed back into the city and sold the rest of the stuff form the monsters and found a store where I got a few maps to help me when I travel around. I asked some people around the city and found out that the group of soldiers took the animal people, called Demihumans, up to the lord of the area's mansion. I headed up towards the mansion and got on top of the wall surrounding it to try and locate where they might be held. I was going to need a companion to travel with so I decided that I would borrow one of the Demihumans when I had the chance. I figured that there were too many spots they could be kept so I found a hiding spot so that no one would be able to see me and waited. I knew that eventually they would do something that gave away the area they were being held so I watched carefully, eating food from my inventory when I got hungry. After a few days I noticed that the lord of the place frequently went into a underground spot located in the courtyard. I knew for sure that it was where they were being kept when I saw them transporting a single girl out and into a cage wagon, sending her away. The guards had left with the cart so I figured tonight would be the best time to sneak in and find someone I could take with me.

Once the sun had went down, I left my hiding spot and sneaked into the courtyard. After making sure no one was around to see, I went down into the underground area. There weren't any guards at the gate so it was easy to unlock the door and enter. I quietly walked around the area, making sure that there weren't any guards patrolling down here. All of the demihumans were asleep so they didn't make any noises. I looked in each cage to see if any of them would catch my interest. I would need to find one that I could make a dummy corpse for so that no one would notice them missing. I heard a lot of quiet coughing coming from one of the cells so I walked over to it and found a small girl curled up on a bed, holding onto something as she coughed. She looked like she was close to death and she didn't have anyone else in the cell with her so she was the best candidate. I unlocked the cell quietly and walked over to her, examining her features and monster remains in my inventory to make a body very similar to her. After I finished I laid it on the ground and walked over to her, taking the small flag out of her hands and putting it in the hands on the body on the ground. I picked up the girl carefully and teleport-ed to a teleport marker that I had set out in the forest when I was hunting. I laid the girl down on a soft patch of grass and gathered some herbs from around the area.

After I had enough herbs I took out some tools and used my skills to make some medicine, I changed my chain to give me improved skill for making the medicine and then used potion enhance to make the medicine better. After finishing I walked over to the girl with a small bottle of medicine ready. I tilted her head up and carefully poured the potion into her mouth, watching as some color returned to her skin and her cough died down. She shivered a bit so I took out a blanket made out of fur from my inventory and put it over her, building a fire nearby as well. I put a kettle of water next to the fire with a few leaves of herbs, mint leaves, and a sweetening leaf. I stared into fire as I thought about what I'm going to be doing. I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard movement behind me so I turned around, seeing the girl I had brought with me sitting up and looking around panicked. "calm down child, you are safe" She looked over at me, startled "Wh-where am I? Wh-who are you?" I moved the kettle away from the fire a bit "we are in the woods, about half a days walk from the city your people were taken to. I am the person who broke you out of your captivity" she stared at me, trembling "w-why.." I took 2 cups out of my inventory and poured the tea in the kettle into them "I wanted to have someone to travel with, so I figured I would get someone who wouldn't be noticed if they happened to disappear or die" She started trembling more "p-please...d-don't hurt me" I frowned and walked over to her, holding the 2 cups. "I'm not going to hurt you. Why would I have made medicine and healed you if I was just going to hurt you" She stared at the cups in my hands, still afraid "h-healed?" I nodded and set one of the cups next to her on the ground. "if you haven't noticed yet, I got rid of your illness. You are already looking much better than when I found you." She stared down at the cup I put next to her "what is that" I sat down a little bit away from her "It's tea, go ahead and drink it. It should help if you are still feeling sick. just be careful not to burn your tongue" She nodded and slowly took a drink "...its sweet" I nodded and looked at her, noticing a mark on her chest "yeah, I used mint leaves and a sweet leaf in the tea." she drank more of the tea, like it was the only thing she's drank in a long time "th-thank you" I set my cup down and got a bit closer to her "what is that mark on your chest?" she trembled a bit and looked down "i-its a slave mark.....It's a curse mark that makes it so I can't disobey my master..." I nodded and grabbed the end of my chain, changing it to the cursed end "would you mind if I tried something with it?" she trembled more and set her cup down, nodding. I put the end of the chain against the mark and saw a display appear in front of me. It allowed me to make changes to the curse on her, but I couldn't remove it. I changed it so I was the person that owned her instead of the noble that I had taken her from. She let out a whimper as the slave mark glowed for a moment before returning to normal. I moved the chain away from her and put it back into my sleeve, putting the chain end back to its default. "wh-what did you do?" I moved back to my cup and picked it up "I made it so that I am your master now" She whimpered again and looked down "m-master...." I went back to my spot by the fire and sat down "don't worry, I only did it so that no one would be able to control you"

I put more sticks onto the fire and looked over at her. She was holding onto the blanket, trembling still "wh-what is this in front of me?" I stared at her "the blanket?" she shook her head "n-no, it is a w-weird bar and a name, Y/n L/n" I looked in the corner of my view and saw a name under my health bar [Rifana (slave)]. I sighed and looked at the fire "that is my name, a similar thing is in my vision. So I'm assuming Rifana is your name." I poured more tea into my cup. "o-okay, M-master Y/n" I frowned and looked over at her "you don't have to call me master if you don't want to." she nodded "O-okay..." I heard a rumbling sound and watched her face turn red "are you hungry?" she nodded and looked down. I took out some meat from hunting the rabbits earlier and put it over the fire using a stick. "you can come over to the fire if you want Rifana. It's much warmer." she slowly went over, bringing the blanket with her as she sat on the opposite side of the fire from me. I smiled at her and she looked down, avoiding eye contact. I sighed and watched the meat, making sure I don't burn it. Soon the meat was cooked thoroughly and I handed one of the Rabbit meat on a stick over to Rifana. She looked at it for a bit before eating it quickly. She started choking on the food so I reached for my cup of tea since it was close by and handed it to her. She drank it quickly to wash down the food and sighed. "you don't have to eat so quickly, It's not going anywhere and I wont take it from you" she nodded and ate the food more slowly. I smiled and watched her as I started eating my own food, after finishing I put the stick into the fire and looked at Rifana "go ahead and get some sleep after you finish eating. You are going to need it for tomorrow.
