《Rising of the shield hero: the fifth forgotten hero》Chapter 5

I AM NOT FORGETTING THIS STORY COMPLETELY YET. You know where we left off
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Y/N's POV-
I was sitting with Ren and Itsuki among the audience, quietly furious. Ahri was looking at me concerned, but turned attention to the match when King of stupidity announced the start of the fight between his lapdog and Naofumi.
Motoidiot: "You might want to give up Naofumi. You can't possibly think you will win with only a shield."
Y/N: *chuckle*
Ren: "What's so funny?"
Y/N: "That idiot is underestimating him... the only true weapon is imagination. Those who lack it are dead first."
Itsuki: "He's right Ren. Imagination is the strongest natural weapon ever created and Motoyasu seems to lack it quite a bit and he let's his pride get the better of him."
Y/N: *internaly* says the one that has pride for days *externally* "and Naofumi thinks outside the box. Most of his abilities are defensive, but he could use them in a creative way offensively, giving Motoyasu quite a surprise."
King Melromarc: "Let the match. BEGIN!"
Motoyasu: "Did you ever hear the story of a fight between the spear and the shield?!"
Motoyasu charges going for a quick stab, but Naofumi blocks it.
Naofumi: "I did, the Shield came out victorious, because the spear couldn't penetrate it!"
The shield hero then goes for a punch. Motoyasu had some air knocked out of him before he backed of giving all of us time to notice a (red) balloon biting down on him.
Motoyasu: "What the?! How did a balloon get here!"
After he kills the balloon Naofumi reveal four more hiding under his cape.
Y/N: "Clever..."
Itsuki: "but isn't that cheating?"
Y/N: "In my eyes it is not. Naofumi lacks offensive capabilities that could do large amount of damage. Hiding monsters that are strong yet do no damage to him make up for a decent weapons in a way. Also I would believe that animals feel naturally safer around him making them a bit easier to tame for Naofumi. Besides it's just balloons nothing major."
Ren: "Just because you see it that way doesn't mean. Everyone else will."
Y/N: "True, *sees Malty chanting* but now I would pay attention to the princess."
Ren and Itsuki notice Malty chanting as well, but didn't say anything. Naofumi was too focused on Motoyasu to notice her casting the spell. Naofumi manages to knock Motoyasu down easily, but when he lost his guard the air magic hit him hard. This gave Motoyasu to use thunder spear to finish Naofumi off. I sigh before standing up and going down there with Ahri in tow.
When I got down there I saw the red-haired bitch quietly taunting the shield hero. I click my teeth before waiting by the doorway Glaring at Motoyasu and Princess bitch. Naofumi was looking in shock, but felt a bit better when he saw me glaring nuclear missles at the royalty and their lapdog, but there was something else in Naofumi's expression... realization... that he was being used to gain recognition for the princess and the Spear he- no someone like him doesn't deserve the title of a hero.
Unimportant Noble: "The girl who was enslaved by the cowardly shield hero has been given her freedom by the triumphant Spear hero!"
Y/N: "Cowardly? tch says the one who was hiding behind castle's walls instead of fighting on the front lines."
I said it quietly, but Ahri heard me. I heard many nobles whispering and mocking the Shield hero
Ahri: "True coward is the one not willing to fight where the most danger is hurting the innocent."

I saw my menu pop up out of nowhere and Light shining in a blinding manner. When I could see again I saw a rainbow-ish pattern enveloping my vision with a short notification in the middle.
-Blessed series requirement met-
I was confused by what I saw, but I saw the gem in my hand shine a bit with a blue and pink colour. not too brightly, but enough for me to notice, before hiding my hand in a glove quickly. I was lost in thought a little before Ren the sword loner spoke.
Ren: "You two are like made for eachother."
Itsuki: "Yeah..."
It took me a second to realize what he meant, but when I did I hid my blush behind my hardhat. I look at Ahri seeing she has the same kind of blush, but our little akward moment was interrupted by a smacking sound that echoed throughout the place. All of us turned attention to Raphtalia who slapped beautifully Motoyasu's ugly playboy face.
Y/N: "That was a beautiful slap heh..."
Raphtalia: *to Motoyasu* "You're a liar and a Cheat!"
Princess bitch: "How dare you?! Sir Motoyasu set you free."
Raphtalia: "I never asked to be 'freed'."
Motoyasu: "But I though he was using you and treated you badly.?"
Raphtalia: "Well obviously you know nothing about Master Naofumi."
Motoyasu: "W-wha?"
Y/N: *to Ahri* "Just play along with me. *to Motoyasu* She is correct. I was watching the Shield hero's actions the whole time. He didn't use her or even treat her as a slave. The treatment Ms.Raphtalia recieved was more comparable to taking care of a child or a close friend. Indeed there were moments where Naofumi used the slave crest's curse, but it was never out of ill intention. It was to try make her push herself to move on from the past and her fears. He only used it to help and protect both himself and her."
Motoyasu: *hits the ground with a tip of his spear* "and that's the problem. Nobody should ever be forced into a fight."
Y/N: *Sigh's loudly* "Says the one who forced someone to fight him..."
Ahri: "The Irony of the situation."
Motoyasu looked at me shocked before realizing I was right and putting his head down in a ashamed way.
Raphtalia: "Not to mention Master Naofumi cannot use weapons. The shield defends so someone has to fight for him. Master Naofumi defends me! We work as a team and always gives me time to rest when I'm tired."
Motoyasu: "N-no way he just isn't that kind of guy."
Y/N: "How would you know Motoyasu? You knew him for how long? one day?"
Raphtalia: "Well here is the truth. He was willing to help a sick diseased slave who was on a verge of death. Master Naofumi fed me every day healthy nourishing food anything I wanted, not only that he gave me valuable medicines-"
Y/N: *thinking* "does she mean our terrible excuses for medicine we make every day?"
Raphtalia: "- and treatments that cured my illness. Are YOU capable of such kindness?!"
Motoyasu: "O-of course I am."
Raphtalia: "If that were true you would have someone loyal by your side too, instead of that two faced princess."
Motoyasu: "E-excuse me?!-"
princess bitch: "how dare you say such things?! You will take that back you damned demi-human!"
red-haired bitch lost her composure completely and was about to slap Raphtalia, but Ren and Itsuki finally decide to show up.
Itsuki: "Myne I am sorry, but I have to ask about your illegal, magical interference during the duel."

Itsuki had a unamused expression, but I knew he was just as shocked as Ren and everyone else sensible enough, that saw Myne cast the wind magic.
princess bitch: *bitchy attitude* "What are you talking about?"
Motoyasu: "Illegal interference?"
Ren: "Hey motoyasu hate to say it, but you lost that duel."
Motoyasu: "wha-"
Ren: "Obviously someone shot a powerfull magic spell at Naofumi. It was difficult to tell at first, but it was clearly a type of wind magic."
Motoyasu: "uh..? Myne?"
princess super bitch: "I think you Imagined it. The audience didn't see anything."
Y/N: "The king has told everyone to keep quiet about it, but some people and nobles still had their heads on their shoulders and told us about it out of their free will."
Itsuki: "I can't believe Royalty would intervene in a sacred duel."
Raphtalia then leaves off to try comfort Naofumi. At first she didn't do much, since he was caught up in his anger, but after a while those two got into a comforting hug.
Motoyasu: *to himself* "Is she still feeling like a slave to him or maybe Raphtalia is doing this only, because she's brainwashed."
Ren: "I am not so sure about that."
Y/N: "Just look at them dumbass."
Itsuki: "It's not like a master and a slave relationship, it's different."
Y/N: "I think we should leave them alone for a bit. Naofumi still needs to collect his thoughts. *starts walking away* Oh and Motoyasu."
Motoyasu: "Yeah?"
Y/N: "I will duel you some other time, I think that the people saw enough of fighting for today." *thoughts* "And you would be patheticaly easy to fight against."
We all left to where we stayed and got some sleep.
-timeskip brought by readers thinking I am going to give Y/N a dragon-
It is currently the next day and we are back again in the slave-trader's shop. Raphtalia has her crest reapplied. I was leaning on pile of crates, observing the whole situation. I could tell Ahri was bothered, ever since the duel after what Ren and Itsuki said. I sigh, because honestly I was thinking about it myself. Me being in love with a person I pretty much raised for just a few weeks? I must be a real creep, but I think it would be better to straighten this out before it affected us during a important fight.
Y/N: "Is something bothering you Ahri?"
She flinches for a bit before blushing a bit more and acting defensive.
Ahri: "N-no nothing is wrong. It's just... ever since you bought my freedom. I did nothing usefull, but observe you doing all the job. *stands in front of me firmly* So I have decided, that I am going to follow you, even to the pits of hell just to repay your kindness! and I... I would like to have a crest to prove my loyalty."
Y/N: *choke's on air a bit* "Y-you don't have to go that far to prove yourself trustworthy."
Naofumi looks at me with a smug grin that could rival Beloukas's.
Ahri: *pouts* "I absolutely insist on proving myse-"
I out of nowhere kiss her cheek before walking past her.
Y/N: "Is this enough of a proof to say I believe in you."
She became a red stuttering mess and all of us start laughing a bit, including the slave trader, who I didn't know could grow even creepier grin.
Naofumi: "Hey what's with the eggs over there?"
I turn attention to what Naofumi was talking about and I saw a box with sixteen eggs.
Beloukas: "Oh! This is a monster egg lottery. For a 100 silvers I can guarantee atleast a filolial. Your monster will grow atleast double in value if you take care of it properly."
Naofumi: "A filolial?"
Y/N: "Those are the large chicken like animals that are used to pull carriages."
Naofumi: "Oh those."
Beloukas: "What's more! if you hit the jackpot. YOU WIN A DRAGON and may I remind you that beast is worth 20 gold pieces!!"
Naofumi: "Is it like a Gacha game?"
Y/N: *chuckles* "It certainly sounds like it."
Raphtalia/Ahri: "What's a Gacha game."
Y/N: "A game of luck where you pay to get something that is completely random."
Beloukas: "So gentlemen. Would you like to give it a try? Act now and I will give you a package deal. For that AND the slave crest."
Y/N: "hmmm... I can get almost any monster for myself to tame, if that is what you're saying."
(Just so you know. The slave trader said that filolial has the highest chance to drop, while the dragon has the lowest, but he never said those two monster types were the only ones.)
Beloukas: "That's right sir!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/N: *pulls out a coin pouch* "Shut up take my money!!!"
-take 2-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Y/N)/Naofumi: *pull out 100 silvers each* "deal."
Both Naofumi and me pick a random egg and the slave merchant gives us small portable hatching nests. I thank him and with Naofumi, Ahri and Raphtalia we take our leave.
Raphtalia: *sligthly concerned* "If you ask me. You shouldn't waste your money like that Master Naofumi."
Ahri: "same goes for you Y/N."
Naofumi: "Yeah, but well when I thought about it. It wasn't fair to let you do all the fighting by yourself."
Raphtalia: "I am doing well all by myself thank you very much..."
Y/N: "I admitably bought it only to find out what kind of future partner my luck would bring me and adventuring in a group of two would get pretty boring quickly. No offense."
Ahri: "None taken and I can actually agree with the last part of your reasoning, but still..."
Naofumi: "If you think it is really unneccessary we can always sell them back to the slave merchant."
Ahri/Raphtalia: "You should really stop loosening your purse string so much."
(Y/N)/Naofumi: "Yeah, yeah."
-timeskip to the medical herb shop-
shopkeeper: "I have alot of relatives in Lute Village. They're the one's who asked me to help you out here."
Raphtalia: *quietly* "Do you think this has something to do with someone you saved during the wave?"
Naofumi: *confused* "You got me..."
(Y/N)/Ahri: *unamused face*
Shopkeeper: "This grimoire contains recipes for finer medicine than the ones you bring me."
Naofumi: "I appreciate it, but I cannot read this world's language."
Shopkeeper: "There is something else. The old hag at the magic shop was asking to see you. It's for a similar reason. She said you helped her grandkid out in that Lute Village battle.
-timeskip to magic shop-
Wizard: "Shield hero you have a rare affinity for healing and support magic. Sir.Y/N you have a extremely rare affinity for creation and lightning magic and the young racoon lady has affinity for dark and light magic, while a ninetailed fox has affinity for almost all magic types. Make sure they learn illusion magic."
I just blink my eyes a few times.
Wizard: "Now that being the case..." *puts a magic grimoire on the table*
Naofumi: "We don't have money to buy a magic grimoire though."
Wizard: "It's a gift as thanks for helping my grandchild. I would've preffered to have given you a magic crystal ball instead of it."
Naofumi/(Y/N): "Huh.?"
Wizard: "Oh you mean you didn't know? If you use a crystal ball you can learn one of the magics sealed within it."
Y/N: "First we ever heard of that."
Wizard: "But I heard the royal court ordered a bunch of them for all the heroes."
Y/N: "Yeah.. they probably did, but they most-likely forgot about me and didn't want to give Naofumi a thing."
Wizard: *smiles* "Learning magic from a Grimoire may be hard, but if you keep at it and do the work. You can learn as many spells as you want. *cheeringly* You can do it."
Naofumi: "Thank you so much." *wide-eyed* *quietly* "thank you so much?"
Y/N: *smiles at Naofumi* *thinking* "looks like your condition is getting better ay Naofumi."
-timeskip-
Raphtalia, Ahri and I were looking at the small village form a hill. I remembered I had earbuds and a Ipod with some music in my pockets. Why didn't I remember sooner I had these. Simply put... I am an idiot. I put them in my ears and listen to some relaxing music. I took off my googles and hardhat for the first time, leaning myself on a tree and closing my eyes.
(if you want to)
-Naofumi's Pov-
I was trying to figure out some way to read the Grimoire, but my legendary weapon sadly cannot translate it no matter what I try. I wanted Y/N to try help me figure out, but when I look at him I see that he has his googles and Hardhat off, earbuds in his ears listening to music. Ahri was snuggled to him. I also could faintly hear what he was listening to. The image overall made me smile.
Naofumi: "Those two would make a perfect couple."
Raphtalia: "You are correct about that."
Naofumi: "They make their point clear though. We manage to get out of the wave alive. It will be good if we take this one day to relax and recollect our thoughts."
Raphtalia: "... the view is beautiful."
Naofumi: "It really is."
I soon join Y/N in his relaxation with Raphtalia. I nudged Y/N's shoulder a bit and asked him, if I could have one earbud. He suprisingly agree and gave me one earbud. After about two hours we decide to pack this up and head back to our places. Over the time my opinion of Y/N is quite good and I fully trust him and her possible girl-friend. Hehe it'll be fun to tease the two about this, but for now it my main issue is... getting some sleep.

8 205Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
