《SLOW BURN》25. not the time

The resort is about an hour and a half drive from Portland. It's close to Mt. Hood National Forest so it's surrounded by beautiful big, green trees. It's absolutely beautiful.
"Have you ever been here?" I ask Josh as we get out of the truck. It's around noon so the sun is bright up in the sky. It feels good against my skin. We had a late morning. Josh ended up sleeping in which is good. He already looks so much better.
"No," he says as he grabs our bags. "I Googled it." He looks around and grins. "It's great, isn't it?"
"Yes, it's beautiful."
"Want to know the best part of it though?"
"What?" I ask curiously as we walk.
He reaches for my hand and intertwines his fingers with mine. "It's just far enough that I can hold your hand in public."
His words make me a bit sad. He's so darn cute. I'm really starting to think that I don't deserve him.
We hold hands as we make our way into the building. We go to the help desk to get the room key. I notice the way the women look at Josh and I put my arm around his, feeling lucky to be the woman he brought here.
Our suite is up on the fourth floor. On our way to the elevator, I spot a big pool and a restaurant. I think they also said there were tennis courts. Not that we're going to play, I hope. I've never played tennis.
"Wow, this is really nice, Josh," I say as we walk in our room. It is huge. There is a big bed and a huge bathroom with a beautiful tub. It has a fancy white dining table, TV, and a balcony. "Oh my god, there's a jacuzzi," I say when I walk out the balcony.
Josh chuckles as he puts his arm around my waist. I turn my head and he crashes his lips against mine making me laugh. "We won't leave the room all day if we continue." I tell him.
He groans. "Let's get out of here then."

We spent all day outdoors. We walk through the trees and enjoy the scenery. I can't believe I've never been here before. I really need to start exploring different cities more often. We have lunch then dinner later in the evening after we make our way back to the resort. It feels so good to spend normal quality time with Josh. It reminds me of high school, back when we would hang out during lunch and after school.
He tells me about his experiences during the times he was deployed and I tell him about college and how it wasn't anything like I expected.
"Well, what did you expect?" He asks as we make our way back into the room.
"I don't know. I expected it to be more fun. I spent most of my nights in my dorm pulling all nighters trying to finish homework."
He chuckles. "Couldn't have been that bad."
"I guess not." I smile at him as we walk in the room. "Remember how we always thought we would go to college together? I think we even planned where we would live one time." I laugh.

"That's true." Josh laughs.
"That would have been nice," I say with a smile and Josh turns his head to kiss me. "Hmm, can we go in the jacuzzi?"
"We can do whatever you want, Natalie," he says against my lips, his eyes burning with desire.
I press my lips against his and smile. "I'll go change."
"I'll be waiting."
I go into the bathroom and change into my bikini. I'm so glad I packed one. It's black and a two-piece. It's been so long since I've worn it. I put it on and look at myself in the mirror. I hope Josh likes it. I put my hair into a bun and head outside. I can see Josh already inside and I smile as I make my way outside. It's dark except for the lights inside the jacuzzi. Somehow, it looks magical. It's a great way to end a good day.
Josh turns to look at me when he hears me. I can feel his eyes all over my body. It makes me feel hot. The tingles in my stomach are very real. He reaches out for my hand as I step inside the hot water. I walk down the stairs. The water reaches me about mid-arm. It feels so good against my body, especially with Josh there.
Josh gulps. "You're so fucking sexy," he says putting his arms around my waist. He's leaning against the wall and I put my hands around his neck.
"You like it?" I ask with a smile.
He runs his hands all over my back. "I love it."
I close the gap between us and kiss him. Josh's hand travels down my back and I feel him squeeze my butt cheek making me smile. We make out until we run out of breath. "We couldn't kiss all day," I say breathless, referencing the conversation we had the other day. "We would run out of breath."
He chuckles. "We can always take breaks."
I place my hands on his shoulders and admire his handsome face. Then I lean in and kiss his chin. My lips travel down his neck, to his muscular pecs. I trace his six pack with my hands under the water before going back to his lips. He hugs me tightly after. I rest my chin on his shoulder with my arms around him and smile. What a perfect day. I wish all days could be like this.
"Natalie," Josh says softly.
"Umm?" I murmur tightening my arms around him.
"Can I tell you something?"
I feel my shoulders tense, suddenly nervous about what Josh wants to tell me. I pull away slowly and meet his eyes. "No."
He looks surprised and then he chuckles. "Are you serious?"
I laugh nervously. "I'm sorry, it just sounds very serious."
He strokes my cheek with the back of his hand. "Why are you so scared about getting serious?" He asks softly.
I hesitate. "It's just not the time."
He nods. "I love spending time with you. I would do anything to keep you, you know that right?"
I stroke his lower lip with my thumb. "I love spending time with you too."
He looks down and then looks at me again. "I'm willing to wait but I'm going to need you to do something for me."

"Okay," I say slowly.
"When you feel ready to take this to the next level, let me know okay?"
I smile. "I will."
"Don't you go dating anyone else because I'll lose it for sure."
I laugh. "There's nobody else I would want to date, Josh."
He kisses me. "I don't know how I got so lucky."
"I'm pretty sure I'm the lucky one."
He smiles as his brown eyes roam all over my face. "High school me never thought it was possible to have you in my arms. He wouldn't believe it if there was a way I could tell him."
"You're so sweet, baby." I whisper before leaning in and kissing him.
His hands go around my waist and he picks me up so I can wrap my legs around his waist. "May I?" He asks, breathless. His fingers tugging the strings of my bikini top on my back.
"I'm all yours, Josh," I say with a smile.
"All mine." He repeats as he pulls the string, untying my top. It becomes lose, freeing my breasts, and Josh reaches out and pulls it off. His eyes roam all over my chest which makes me a bit self conscious and glad that it's dark out here. I smile sheepishly then put my arms around him and press my chest against his. He sighs pleasurably and I feel him harden underneath me.
"Why don't we go inside?" I whisper in his ear.
His arms tighten around my waist as I feel him straighten up. "Oh, okay." I laugh when I realize he's going to carry me. I tighten my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist as he steps out of the jacuzzi, our bodies drip in water as he walks us back inside. With one hand, he pulls the door closed before walking to the bed where he lays me down carefully as if I were a doll. That's when I know he's in the mood for lovemaking.
I'm starting to anticipate the kind of sex Josh and I are going to have based on the way he touches and kisses me. It's actually pretty exciting as if being with him wasn't exciting enough. I sigh and I stare up at the ceiling as Josh begins to kiss my leg. He's working his way up this time. I shut my eyes and give myself to him entirely.
I am his.
And he is mine.

We don't leave the bedroom until it's time to go back to Portland on Sunday evening.
Josh holds my hand on his lap as he drives. I am exhausted. We rarely got any sleep at all but thinking about everything we did last night and most of the day today makes it worth it. I rest my head on Josh's shoulder and close my eyes.
"Natalie? We're here."
I open my eyes and realize that the truck isn't moving anymore. We're parked outside my apartment. It feels like I just barely closed my eyes. I straighten up and rub my eye. "That was fast."
"I'm sorry, I should have let you get some sleep." He teases with an amused look on his handsome face.
I roll my eyes at him. "Whatever, buddy."
He chuckles then kisses me. After a moment, I pull away and look at him. "I have something I need to tell you."
He frowns. "I thought you didn't do serious conversations."
I half smile. "I said I didn't like them." My smile fades. "It's about Brad."
He drops his hand at the sound of his name. "What about Brad?"
I gulp. "My mom called me on Friday. Remember how I was talking to her? Anyway, she told me that Brad had gone to speak with them which pissed me off. I'm only telling you this because I'm going to look for Brad tomorrow."
"For what?" He asks and he doesn't hide his anger.
"To tell him that he needs to stop."
Josh scoffs as he shakes his head. "Please, like that's going to do anything."
I frown, taken aback by his response. "What's your problem?"
"My problem, Natalie, is that you are doing exactly what Brad wants you to do. He's never going stop if you keep falling into his little games."
"I'm sorry but I don't know what else to do."
"You let him be," he says it like it's obvious. "You keep looking for him like you want to see him."
I glare at him, angrily. "Oh, yes, Josh. I want to keep seeing Brad. We both know how much I love him and can't wait to get back with him," I say my words dripping in sarcasm and anger.
I don't want for his response. I grab my bag and get out of the truck. I can't believe he's acting this way especially after the weekend that we just had. He knows I don't want to be with Brad anymore there is no reason for him to get jealous or angry at me. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. I was just trying to prepare him in case he saw me at the station tomorrow. I was trying to prevent misunderstandings. Instead, I caused chaos.
I make it to my apartment and shut the door angrily behind me, startling Cassie who is in the couch.
"Natalie," she says standing up. "Is everything alright?"
I nod, trying to calm my emotions. "Hey, yes, I'm sorry. I didn't realize I pulled the door so hard." I try to smile, trying to play it off. I think it works because she smiles.
"No worries." Her shoulders relax. "How was your weekend?"
It would have been perfect if I would have kept my mouth shut.
"Good. I'm really tired though, I think I'm going to bed."
I'm about to turn around when there is a knock on the door. I don't move and just stare at the door. Is it Josh?
"That's weird," Cassie says walking to the door. "Are you expecting someone?"
Before I have the chance to answer, she opens the door. I watch as her eyes widen and she gasps in surprise. For a moment, I think that I'm wrong and it's not Josh. Cassie doesn't know him why would she be reacting like that? And then I step to the side and see that it is Josh and he is staring at Cassie as if she were a ghost.
"Josh?" Cassie asks.
I start to feel sick to my stomach because somehow I know that everything is about to change.
