《The Alpha's Girl》Chapter 22

It's been a few days since Chance and I marked each other. Last night I spent the night in the basement because of the full moon. I have no idea what even happened. I woke up not remembering the night at all. Chance said my wolf took over and that sometimes, people struggle to get back out after letting their wolves take over. He said the next full moon I might need to be in the basement again, but I'm hoping not. I was so lonely and cold down there.

Today, I was meeting with Chance's mom. She was going to give me the history of the Luna. I have meetings with her every once in a while, to train me on how to be a Luna. Most she-wolves know the rules and duties of a Luna but since I was brought up in the human world, I didn't get any lessons on this type of stuff. Chance's mom would be giving me a small lesson to help me understand my role better.

"Good morning, Luna. I'm here to take you to training."

"I can walk there myself. Mary's house isn't that far."

Ryan shook his head. "Chance insisted that I take you over there. He can't do it because of the meeting with Brandon but he wants me to make sure you get there safely. His brother and him are talking about the rouges again."

I nodded, remembering Chance telling me about that meeting today, "Okay, but stop calling me Luna!"

Ryan chuckled. "Bailey, I'm on duty so I'm supposed to call you that. Anyway, are you ready?"

I nodded and followed Ryan out of the pack house and into the main part of the pack. We talked a little about Chance and Hannah and Ryan told me he was thinking of proposing to Hannah. I squealed. When we reached Mary's house, Ryan bid me goodbye and said I needed anything to contact him or Chance.

"Thanks again."

He waved goodbye and winked. "No problem, Luna."

I knocked on Mary's door and smiled when Aria answered. "Come in. Mom's in the kitchen."

"Okay, how are you doing?"

"Great! Can we have another girl's day soon? We miss you."

"Of course! Summers almost here so we'll be able to spend so much time together."

She gave me a toothy smile and I walked into the kitchen. I sat down across the table from Mary. "Good morning, how are you doing?"

She looked up from her book and a smile spread across her face. "Good morning, Bailey. I'm great this morning. Something's different about you."

I moved my hair to the side and Mary's eyes went wide. "Chance and I marked each other."

"I knew something smelled different about you! I'm so happy for you both."

I smiled. "With everything going on with Carter, I just wanted him to mark me. I know that with us being joined together now, we are stronger in battle and can help heal each other. I just wanted to be closer to Chance incase anything bad happens."

Mary nodded, agreeing with my reasoning. "I'm just so happy for you both. I can tell how much he loves you. Now, before we begin, would you like anything to drink?"

"Water would be fine, thanks."

Mary stood up and poured me a glass of water. She placed the glass in front of me as well as a plate of sugar cookies, my favorite. "So, Chance wanted me to give you the run down on Luna's and Alpha's. You already know the basics of a werewolf but you never had the actual lessons since you grew up in the human world, right?"

I nodded my head and Mary grabbed a small book from the chair next to her. "This is the book the Elders read from when teaching the kids about our history. The Lycan bloodline is actually a curse, as you know. There was once a group of hunters. They hunted wolves for food and their fur to keep warm. There was one man, however, who didn't hunt the wolves to cook them or use their fur for pelts. The Moon Goddess took a liking to him. She believed that there might be more people in the world like him. The wolves were her children. So, this man and her met on every full moon and she ended up falling in love with him. No one knows for sure if the man truly loved her back."

Mary paused to flip the page and my head was spinning with all of this information. "Secretly, the man was telling his group of people all about her and they became obsessed with her. They want to kill her for her power and magic and mortality. However, if the Moon Goddess ever dies, she gives her powers to the next most powerful Luna who is a direct bloodline of the Moon Goddess. No one knows for sure who is the direct children of the Moon Goddess and I'm also starting to get off topic. That's another lesson topic.

"So, anyway, on the fifteenth full moon, the man tried setting her up but her wolves came back to warn her. She's always one step ahead of everyone else. When the man and his group of hunters came to the hill that night, she cursed them, deeming them to be men greedy of power. She turned them into solves and cursed their generations to come. They were only to shift back on full moons. Fast forward a couple hundred of years and the Moon Goddess bears a child, a girl. The girl falls in love with one of the beasts. The Moon Goddess, loving her daughter and realizing that not all men are evil, reversed the spell so that the bloodlines are still cursed but instead of only being able to shift back into a human on the full moon, they can shift whenever they want. She had her daughter be cursed as well so she could live out the rest of her life with him and thus, mates became a thing for every new born wolf.

"By the time of civilization and migrations, the wolves realized they couldn't tell the huamsn about them or else they would be burned at the stake like the witches and warlocks. They started forming packs and had an Alpha in charge, a Luna by his side, and a Beta as the Alpha's second in command. Later one, wars began to happen and so they formed Warriors, Gammas as the Alpha's third in command and many more."

I sat back in my seat, processing everything Mary just told me. "That's so much to take in."

She laughed softly, closing the book. "That's just the summarized version. The children take Werewolf History classes for three years."

"That's crazy though, about how this all started. You said something about witches, those are real too?"

Mary smiled. "Yeah, witches and warlocks exist among us as well. They also originate from the Moon Goddess but we have no relations to them. Witches and Warlocks have the Moon Goddess' magic flowing through them. There aren't many left in the world and half of them don't even know they possess such powers because most of the time, the magic lays dormant."

"Do you know any?"

Mary nodded. "Actually, a warlock lives here"

I gasped. "What?"

"Yes, a warlock named Simon. He lives down by the river in a cottage. Witches and Warlocks strive better by using the earths elements. Simon is a water warlock. His magic is stronger by bodies of water. He's a great guy, one of Chance's best childhood friends. Almost every pack has a witch or warlock. They put up wards to protect us and help basically keep us alive."

I hummed, fascinated that no one in this goddamn pack has told me this. "Do they mate like werewolves?"

"No, they're like humans in that department. If they want, they can choose to marry or bind themselves to someone. IF they marry, they can always separate but if they bind themselves to someone, they're' stuck together forever. Witches and warlocks are immortal. We are mortal but we do age slower. The longest living wolf to date is 159. Anyway, if they bind to someone, they share each other's magic source. It's a beautiful ceremony. They literally bind their souls together to be one.

"That is really amazing. I had no idea all these things and people exist in our world every day."

"It's sad though that we can't tell humans about us or them unless they're mated to a wolf or bound to a warlock or witch. Some humans can't handle the idea of someone else having more power than them. There are still werewolf hunter that use the wolf bane to slow us down or kill us. There aren't many witch hunters anymore but there are still people that want to hurt us."

I nodded. "Make sense to keep us a secret. Also, I was thinking of going to meet Simon? Would that be weird? I now want to learn so much more about warlocks."

Mary's face lit up "Of course! It wouldn't be weird or anything. He's actually been dying to meet you."

Mary and I talked for a little bit more before our session was over. Before I left the house, I asked her one more question. "Back to the whole Moon Goddess and Luna thing, how do you know if someone will be the next Moon Goddess or not?"

Mary frowned. "That's the thing, you actually don't. It happens every five hundred years on the Super Moon. The next Super Moon is actually in a few months and I guess we'll find out whichever Luna gets chosen."

I nodded. "Okay, I might look more into that. It seems so interestng. I'm going to get going now. Thank you so much for all the information. I promise to come and visit more."

Mary hugged my goodbye and kissed my cheek, "Tell Chance to visit more, would you please?"

"Of course, I will."

I said my goodbyes to the girls and walked out of the house. I started walking towards the river in the direction Mary had told me to go in, excited to meet him.

***

About a half hour later, since I decided to walk and not run in my wolf form, I heard Chance speak to me though our personal mind link. Where are you? I came home and you weren't there. Your lesson with my mom should've ended already. Are you okay?

I had a stupid smile on my face. The way he said home makes my stomach flutter. I'm walking to Simon's house. You never told me about witches and warlocks. Your mom said he wants to meet me and I'm free the rest of the day anyway.

I didn't think it was important. Are you with someone else?

Chance was getting impatient. My mom said she could feel his wolf becoming restless. No, I'm by myself.

Chance growled through the link and I laughed. He's so overprotective. Well then, I'm coming too. I'll meet you at Simon's. Never walk by yourself again, it's too dangerous with what is happening.

Yes, dad.

Chance growled again and I chuckled. When I looked up from the ground, I saw a small cottage with smoke coming out of the chimney. When I made it to the front porch, I saw a black wolf sitting on there too. I smiled and Chance shifted, changing into the clothes he had in his mouth.

"Hello, my love."

"Hi."

Chance came forward and gave me a small kiss. "I missed you today. How was last night? Sorry I couldn't be there for you, I was on patrol."

I smiled, breathing in his scent. "I missed you too. Last night was fine, I don't really remember anything."

Chance gave me a lopsided grin. "Good and I love you."

Before I could say anything back, the door to the cottage opened and a voice interrupted us. "Are you two love birds going to start making out on my porch or actually come inside?"

I turned around and saw a young man standing at the front door. He was very attractive with bright blue eyes and brown shaggy hair. He wasn't very tall, compared to Chance, but he was taller than me. Tattoos lingered up and down his arms. Chance laughed loudly. "Shut up, man."

Simon laughed back and let us both. He turned to me. "So, you must be the infamous Luna I've heard so much about. How are you?"

I shook his extended hand. "That's me. I'm Bailey and I'm doing great."

We followed Simon into the kitchen. Chance sat next to me at the kitchen table and Simon was across from us. I kept staring at Simon and then he sighed, giving me a playful smile. "Go ahead, ask me."

Chance tried to hide his smile and I blushed. "I didn't want to seem rude."

He waved his hand in the air. "No, you wouldn't be the first."

I laughed. "Alright then, how old are you really?"

"Well, I tell humans I'm 23 but in reality, I'm 233 years old."

I gasped. "Oh my, that's insane. You don't look a day over 20."

Simon chuckled. "I know."

Chance placed a hang on my thigh and began rubbing small circles on it. "So, how have you been man? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever."

"Everything's been so amazing lately. I have the perfect mate. I'm the Alpha. I'm just really happy. How about you? I miss the days when we hung out every day. Now everything's so crazy with me being Alpha I barely have time for myself."

"I get what you mean, we really need to get together again. I'm also great. I just met with Eleanor last week, she's a beauty." Simon turned to me. "She's the witch that lives in Brandon's pack. She's a fire witch, and she's got my heart."

I felt my heart melt. "So, you two seem extra close. Did you guys hang out a lot when you were younger"

Simon nodded. "Chance and I go way ack. Well, not really far back because I'm a couple hundred years old but I've known him since he was a baby. We got close when he got older and he's not my best friend. We did everything together. Things have been crazy with him meeting you and becoming Alpha that we don't really have time with each other much anymore. Chance is great friend, brother, everything. He's like the brother I used to have."

I frowned. "Used to?"

Simon sighed. "Sadly, the warlock and witch bloodline gene jumps around to certain people in families. My family were actually werewolves and I wasn't. I am a warlock. They died when I was about 70. One thing about being immortal is that you have to watch everyone around you grow old and die while you're still here. I miss them every day."

My heart hurt for him. "I'm so sorry, Simon. I couldn't even imagine the pain you must feel."

Simon gave me a bright smile. "It's perfectly fine. I learned how to deal with the pain, which is why I need to find my soul mate and make babies with her. Hopefully it'll be Eleanor because I really like her."

Chance laughed loudly. "Who even says stuff like that?"

Simon rolled his eyes. "Me, obviously."

The conversation between the three of us kept going. We stayed for dinner and just talked about everything that night. I learned so much about Chance and Ryan and everyone else here. I had never seen Chance look so carefree.

I think I'm going to really like it here.
