《The Alpha's Girl》Chapter 17

I woke up to a blinding light. Two IV's were sticking out of my left arm. I sat up in the bed and looked around the room. No one was in here. I swing me legs over the side of the bed and put the slippers on my feet that were next to my bed. I ripped out the two IV's and growled. A little bit of blood came out with the needles so I quickly ripped a piece of my hospital gown off and put it on top of the cut.

When I was sure that I was steady enough to walk, I walked out of my room and was surprised that no one was in the hallway.

This is so weird, my wolf said, and I had to agree with her. Where was everyone?

I walked down the hallway and looked into every room I passed. Someone was laying in each bed, hooked up to monitors and battled wounds covering their bodies. I kept walking, trying not to get emotional over all of the men and women that are hurt.

I stopped and took a deep breath, the wound in my leg beginning to scream out in pain. I lifted up my gown a bit and saw at least ten staples going up my leg. How did I not notice this before or feel this? My shoulder was beginning to throb to and I frowned, touching it and feeling the bandages. I mentally cursed myself, thinking that one of the IV's given to me was morphine and I took them out.

I was almost at the exit doors, ready to get the hell out of here until I heard loud footsteps and someone calling out my name. I turned around and saw a frantic Chance, his eyes bloodshot and tears pooling in his eyes. "Where have you been? Where did you go? I was running up and down the halls looking for you!"

He pulled me to him and wrapped his arms around me. "What are you talking about? I just want to be in my own bed right now."

He pulled away from me but kept me at arm's length. "I went to get something to eat and when I came back you were gone. I-I thought he came back for you. I thought you were gone."

Chance's voice cracked when he said the last word and my heart broke. "No, I'm okay. I'm right here."

He started crying and I had tears in my eyes too. "I thought I lost you again. I thought you were gone again, Bails."

I frowned and hugged Chance. "What do you mean? I've been here the whole time."

He shook his head. "No, Bails, they lost you. I tried getting you here as quick as I could and you had lost so much blood and your heart just stopped. It stopped, Bailey."

He started full on crying now and I didn't know what to do. "Chance, I'm alive. I'm right here, okay?"

Chance nodded and he led me back to my room. He helped me get into bed and then he sat down in the chair next to me. I laid down and pulled the covers up over me. "What happened here?"

Chance took in a shaky breath and grasped my hand. "You went out for a run and as soon as you did, the bells started ringing. At least eighty rouges came into our pack and started killing and fighting people. We lost four people last night. I ordered the elderly, the children, and the pregnant women to go below to our safe bunkers. There were so many of them, Bails. I didn't think we could fight them all and win. I was trying to contact you but I think you were still shutting me out from the fight we had. I got to you just in time though, thank goddess. My wolf smelled you and we just followed your scent until we came to that clearing."

I looked out the window that was behind Chance. "That was the ex-boyfriend, Carter."

"What?"

I nodded. "That was him. He told me he was bitten by a wolf, took over the said wolf's pack, escaped jail, and then teamed up with rouges and now wants me as his mate."

Chance frowned. "If you're bitten, you don't get a mate. I also guess that explains why his eyes were red."

"I know that, he explained to me that he doesn't get a soul mate from the Moon Goddess but he wants one and he wants me."

Chance stood up from the chair and growled. "You're mine! I'm your mate and you're my mate! He can't have you."

I touched Chance's hand and he blinked, calming down a little bit. "I know, Chance. I told him that but he's crazy and doesn't want to believe me."

"I'm so sorry this happened to you." He said, placing his head into his hands.

"No, I'm the sorry one here."

Chance took his head out of his hands and looked at me. "What are you talking about?"

Tears welled up in my eyes. "These people, they fought and died because of me. Those families out there lost their loved ones because of me. Those people are waiting for their loved ones to wake up. Everyone in this hospital, is hurt because of me."

Chance shushed me and that caused me to cry even harder. He walked over to my bed and sat down, holding me in his arms. I cried into his shoulder and he rubbed my back, calming me down.

It worked because in the end, I fell asleep in Chance's arms.

Later that night, the sound of someone talking woke me up.

"At least they're getting along."

"Yeah, but it took her almost to die for that to happen."

"The goddess works in mysterious ways."

I kept my eyes shut and cuddled a tiny bit closer to Chance, the heat radiating off of him keeping me warm. I then opened my eyes when I heard a picture being taken. I sat that my face was in Chance's chest and his head was resting on top of mine. I smiled, liking that both of us are getting along. I hated it when we fought.

"You guys are just the cutest thing ever, I had to take a picture."

I turned my head and saw my parents and grandparents standing in the room. My mom's phone was pointing to Chance and I and I blushed, burying my face further into Chance's chest.

"I sent the picture to you." My mom said and then she came over to me and kissed my forehead. She sat on the chair that is next to my bed. "So, how are you feeling?"

I shrugged one shoulder, the one that wasn't bandaged up. "I'm feeling a little better. The doctor gave me some morphine to help with the pain. The stitches in my leg and shoulder will come tonight. He said my wolf wasn't healing us so they had to stitch me up until she regained her energy."

My dad came over and kissed my forehead. "He's still sleeping?"

I nodded. "Apparently he had a rough night."

"We all had a rough night. You should've seen him though. I have never seen him cry before. The thought of losing you almost killed him." My grandma said, shaking her head and giving my hand a squeeze.

"We were so scared when Chance called us. Carter's going to pay for this again."

Chance's hand under the blanket began rubbing small circles on my wrist. His eyes were still shut but I knew he was awake. "He plans on taking me as his mate."

"Over my dead body." Chance said, his eyes still closed.

My mom smiled. "Good evening, honey."

He opened one eye. "Hello, everyone."

I smiled and before any of us could say anything else, the doctor came in. "Hello, Luna. How are you feeling?"

"Much better."

He nodded and looked at my charts. "That's great. Are you ready for the stitches to come out? Your wolf should be healthy enough to heal for the both of you again."

Chance moved off the bed and I was a little disappointed when the warmth from his body disappeared. "Yes, I'm also ready to sleep in my own bed tonight."

The doctor chuckled and ushered everyone out of the room to give me some privacy. I stole a quick look at Chance and he smiled at me before he left the room. If only he knew how much I was already possibly falling for him.
