Lunch came earlier than Louis had anticipated to, so he hadn’t really found the time yet to freak out and stress over his meeting with Harry there. When the bell rang at 12 O’ clock sharp Louis gathered all his stuff and pushed it into his bag before hastening swiftly to the cafeteria, hoping Harry wouldn’t be there before him so the vampire didn’t have to look for Harry at one of the million tables placed in the room.
Finally Inside, the lad was astonished by the overcrowding in the cafeteria. Not quite knowing what to do, he stood still in front of the open door while students were rushing next to him all wanting to get their food as soon as possible. Someone bluntly bumped against him with a ‘Watch out where you’re going cunt!’, before hurrying away once again. Louis was baffled. Was it always this crowded at noon? Well, Louis was suddenly glad that he’d avoided lunches till now.
Luckily the vampire didn’t have to stand there all by himself for much longer as a grinning voice whispered in his ear, “You look like it’s your first time in a cafeteria, with your mouth open in surprise.”
Startled by the sudden voice so near to his ear, Louis brusquely jumped up.
“I was just looking for you,” he answered, dropping his shoulders in relief as he saw who the intruder was. It was odd that he hadn’t noticed Harry before with all his vampire senses. After all he found himself thinking that he’d recognize the boy’s familiar, but still delicious scent, from meters a far. This fact only added to how bewildered Louis was while standing in the crowded cafeteria.
“Well, I’m here now,” Harry responded cheekily. Afterwards he walked over in direction of the food, but quickly stopped as he noticed that Louis hadn’t yet tagged along.
“Come on Lou,” he furrowed his eyebrows, “What takes you so long? Let’s get something to eat.”
After his words, Louis instantly made his way over to Harry secretly glad that the boy had nicknamed him once again. They then headed together to the queue in front of the food.
“Yes!” Harry shouted when they were finally at the front of the line, “It’s pizza day!”
As Louis saw Harry taking two pieces he decided to do so as well, not wanting to stand out or seem suspicious. Besides, human food may not taste the same way like it used to do, he still had some sense of taste left. Pizza was nothing against blood, but it was still kind of nice.
But then Harry grabbed his wrist to lead them both to their table, making sure that Louis would follow and he lost the ability to form any coherent thoughts. The warm feeling around his lower arm made Louis light in his head and made him worry if Harry noticed his slightly colder skin that never managed to get warm.

Too soon the feeling stopped as they arrived at an almost full lunch table, making Louis mentally sigh as he felt the hand withdraw from his own. Would Harry feel the same disappointment, or was Louis the only one with a stupid crush, Louis asked himself.
“Hi everyone,” Harry shouted, “This is Louis, my roommate.”
He then looked back at the fringed haired lad, “Louis this is everyone.”
The two lads took a seat right next to each other as that were the only unoccupied places left.
“So this is Niall,” He pointed to a blond boy who carried a too wide grin and almost immediately answered with a “Hiya mate” of his own.
“These are Sean and Josh,” Harry now gestured to two boys with light brown hair, the second one a bit taller than the first, but they both had friendly faces and greeted Louis with a “Hi”.
“The one in the corner,” His index finger pointed at a tanned lad with a black quiff who was drawing a few sketches in a worn out notebook, “Is Zayn. Don’t mind his brooding self.”
The moment Zayn heard his name being called he looked up. Not a second later, after sniffing the air, his eyes spread wide open out of fear (or was it disgust?) and almost all the colour got drained from his face.
Louis himself was also flabbergasted but was better in not showing it. This was the biggest plot twist he’d ever experienced. But once again, how was it possible that he hadn’t sensed it before? The boy probably made his way through the same corridors as Louis everyday and it’s not like he couldn’t identify his species just from looking at his eyes or smelling his musky scent.
While Louis was condemning himself, the lad concerning gathered his notebook and still half full coke in a hush. After a last scraping noise from his chair getting dragged over the floor when he got up, he left the room in the same hurry. A glare in Louis’ direction was the last the boys saw of him. “Well this is awkward,” Harry commented, confusion written all over his face.
“Don’t mind him,” Niall interferes a bit bothered by his actions, “He’s acting strange lately. Never wants to talk to us anymore and always tired and moody. Well, even more than before.”
“Yes, I noticed too,” Harry muttered concerned, “I wonder what’s his deal.”
“You know, last night I couldn’t sleep,” the blond started, “and around twelve in the morning I heard him opening the window to jump straight out of it. I mean who does that? He didn’t even bother to come back before at least 5 a.m.”
Louis perked his ears, trying to get as much information as possible.
“Indeed,” Sean came between, abandoning his previous chat with Josh “I noticed too. The cold wind from the window woke me up.”

“Strange.” Harry concluded. He then threw himself on his food as he wasn’t even done with half of his first piece of pizza. A minute later the four boys dropped the topic and started to chat about the upcoming football season. Louis decided not to participate in it.
The newly gathered information in mind, he typed a text out to Liam asking him to discuss the matter and form a plan. He ended the text with,
‘The full moon lasts for three days right? Well yesterday was likely the first or second, so tonight things are prob gonna happen again. We have to make sure they dont !! but im not so keen in getting rid of zayn, there has to be another way right?’
After he pushed the sent button, he looked up again for only to notice that Harry was looking in his direction, curiosity clouding his green eyes. Louis gave him a small smile so the boy averted his eyes again, munching on his last bate of greasy food. The vampire decided to finish his own as well until he felt something buzzing inside the pocket of his pants. He’d gotten a reply from Liam.
‘Alrihgt see u after lunch outside at our usual spot?? x’
He sent a short ‘sure’ back, snorting at the little ‘x’ Liam always added before pocketing his phone again and participating in the conversation that was now about the legalisation of gay marriage. **************************
Harry’s POV
He hadn’t seen Louis since lunch, not even during French as the lad probably had ditched again (Harry secretly had felt a pang of hurt that his friend had abandoned him when he sat all alone trying the get a grasp of the foreign language, but he’d never admit it.)
As Sean and Josh were working on a group work in the library, telling their friends they would eat later, Niall and Harry found themselves eating dinner all by themselves. Zayn hadn’t showed up. Slurping his soup, Niall decided to discuss him once again as he was very concerned of his friend
, “But really I wonder what’s up with Zayn. He’s always moody and tired... You don’t think he’s a drugs addict, right? That that’s the reason why he left at night?”
The last sentence reminded Harry a bit of Louis’ former escape out of their dorm, but as Zayn and him besides that didn’t have any other ‘symptoms’ in common, he decided not to mention it. After all it was still his own little secret.
“To be honest, I really don’t know, Niall. Who knows what’s playing in that lad’s head.”
The two boys fell back to another silence. As Niall was looking sadly at his reflection in his soup, he suddenly blurted, “Do you think he’ll go out this night as well?”
Harry snorted lightly, “Well there’s only one way to find out, no?”
“And that is?” Niall asked confused which earned a roll of Harry’s eyes.
“You stay awake and if he leaves you text me or something and we’ll follow him. That way we immediately know if he’s going to a dealer or just wants to have a fag outside.”
Niall nodded greedily, glad with the idea.
“Yes, sure. We can do that!”
“Alright, deal.” Harry smiled in return. He munched on his sandwich and wanted to change the subject again.
“So what’s up with you and Josh now? Still haven’t told him and snogged the hell out of ‘m?” He suggested, his mouth still full of bread and cheese.
“No.” Niall answered, disappointment clouding his voice as the corners of his mouth fell down “It’s just... We get on really well, but I just can’t get a hang of his feelings. I don’t know if it’s just platonic or not, you know.”
He put his own sandwich down to continue his story.
“Sometimes when he high fives me or hugs me and his hand lingers a bit longer, I’m like ‘Yes, he does feel the same way!’, but other times I think he’s just the same with me as he’s with Sean. I just don’t know!”
Harry cocked his eyebrow, “Well then make a move, see how he reacts. Or just tell him, I’m sure it’ll be alright.”
A blush coloured Niall’s cheeks as he averted his gaze, “I’m far too shy to do that! But... maybe you’re right. I should... maybe... someday eventually tell him”
Harry smiled again, “Deal.”
“What’s up with you actually?” Niall subtly changed the subject again, not wanting to talk much longer about himself, “I’ve seen you looking at your room mate. And well, I have to admit he’s quite fit too.”
Thinking about Louis brightened Harry’s mood, but he didn’t really want to elaborate his crush on Louis right now.
“Well, he’s a top lad.” He just stated which earned a snort from Niall in return.
“Don’t bullshit me Harry. He seems like a bit more than a top lad to you.”
“I –” the curly haired lad stuttered. Fortunately he didn’t have to end his sentence as the staff started to shout and asked everyone to leave the room as the students were now supposed to go to their dorms or the common room.
“Fifa at mine?” Niall proposed.
“Sure,” gathering his utensils and empty plate , Harry smirked, “but I’m Man U.”
He got a groan as answer before they both rushed to Niall’s dorm.

8 152Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
