《Stranded》pt.3

We had been driving for like 11 hours, counting the pit stops. My ass hurt from being in the fucking seat for so long. "Hey, who's hungry? There's a dinner up the road a bit." Jessica asks and I chime in. "Yo I'm hungry. Let's do it please." The other girls agree but I could swear I heard chuckling. I chose to ignore it though because I was hungry. Jessica made a turn and we started down a back road. I held my bags as a way of comfort as we drove. I checked my phone. No service. We pulled to the side of the road. "I thought we were going to get some food?" "Yeah We are." Brianna says with a smirk. "Hey (y/n), you remember all the fun we had in highschool? You know all the stories we told, and the games we'd play." I nod hesitantly. "Well we're gonna play a game. It's called how long will it take (y/n) to find their way home." My eyes widened as the doors unlocked. Rey and Ellie pushed me and my stuff out of the mini van, closed the doors, and the two cars sped off.
~~~~
So here we are. Walking along an empty road, no service, and carrying all my shit cause it was too expensive to just leave. All I could see was an old sign for some house of wax. "Wanting to make up for the past my ass!" I scream as the sun starts to go down. "If I ever see them again I'm gonna fucking but new pairs of shoes to shove up each of those asshole's Assholes!" I mutter to myself as I grab a monster energy drink from my purse and start drinking. "I'm gonna fucking die out here. Or get kidnapped." I thought about my mom and how if I couldn't get service I might never talk to her again. "This is bullshit!!!" I scream out as I continue to walk in my heels down the road.
"Maybe I can try hitch hiking." I say to myself double checking for a car. "Look whatever God or goddess is listening if I put my leg out and a car shows up I am all yours." I never really preyed but this is as good a time as any. "Don't let me down." I sigh and pull up my pant leg to expose my own leg. My eyes widen as I see head lights starting to come from the distance. "Thank you!" I exclaim towards the sky. I can hear the truck coming up the road. Definitely a truck, probably a desil from the sound of it. I put my leg away and slightly slope the collar of my fluffy coat off my shoulders before waving. The truck slowly pulls up and comes to a stop infront of me. I wave and the window cranks down. "Hi! Oh my gosh, thank you for stopping! Please I need a lift into town. I was dumped out here, can you help me?" I ask quickly. It was slightly dark but I could see the man's face. He was kind of dirty. Had a dirty baseball hat on, little bit of scruffy facial hair, and a flannel on. There was road kill in the bed of the truck but that was like not my main concern right now.
The man smiled at me. It didn't feel like a creepy smile though. More like a 'aw you poor thing,' or a 'bless your heart' smile. "Can I ask your name?" He asks me and I nod. "(Y/n), my name is (y/n). What's yours?" "Lester. You said your friends just dumped you out here?" I nod at Lester. "Well I wouldn't call them friends." I try to laugh. "Hey if you can help me I've got money. I can pay for the gas or desil." Lester puts up his hand before opening his door. "Lets just worry bout getting your pretty self somewhere to rest for the night. I'll help you get your stuff in." He says and I thank him over and over again. "Beforr I get in would it be too much trouble for me to take a picture of your license plate? Security reasons." I explain holding my phone as he holds the bag with my clothes. "Don't trust me?" Lester asks and I shake my head. "It's not that I don't trust you, you seem like a very nice person. It's just that hitch hiking at night is pretty dangerous I hear." He chuckles. "Oh yeah I getcha. Go head." "Thank you." I take my pictures and the two of us, plus my stuff get into the small truck.
Holding my stuff I look around the inside of the pickup truck. There were two deer hooves hanging from the rear view mirror. Plus some other stuff but it was getting dark. "There's a town a ways up the road. It's called Ambros. It's where I'm headed." Lester says as we start down the road. "There a motel?" I ask rummaging through my food bag. "Should be, but if you can't get in you can stay with my family for a little bit. Only if youd like though." I smile as Lester offers. "I don't want to be an inconvenience to anyone." I say pulling our tow cherry hand pies from my bag. Opening the two I hold one out for Lester. "Here, my way of saying thank you." Lester looks taken a bit back before gently taking the cherry pie out of my hand. "Thank you." He says softly before we start eating.
"So Lester, what do you do for work?" I ask not wanting wanting to drive in silence. "Oh, I , uh, I clear up road kill. If you don't mind actually I'd like to drop off what's in the back of my truck when we can. I bet the smells botherin ya." "Oh nah, not really, back home I got a cousin who clears road kill. I'm used to it." I explain with a chuckle. "Really?" Lester asks and I nod. "Yeah, and a cousin that's a butcher, and another that raises live stock. Kind of a circle of life of cousins. Tiny town." I laugh a little bit as we continue driving. "I hear that." Lester laughs and I smile. This guy seemed pretty nice.
I take another bite of my cherry pie and look around, spotting a glint of a knife on Lester's hip. "Hey what kind of knife is that?" I ask genuinely curious. "Oh! You like knives?" "Yeah, I collect them." I reply before Lester pulls out the hunting knife and holds it out for me to grab the handle. "It's a bowie, real good knife." Lester says all proud. I look it over using my phone as light. "This is really well made. Looks mighty sharp." "Cuts real well." Lester beams and I feel a light blush on my face. Holding the tip of the blade I hold it out for him to take. He stabs it into the dash and I shuffle through my coat pocket. "Mines hello kitty." I smile and click it open. I use my phone to light it up so he can see. "Thats adorable." Lester compliments. "Yeah but I got bigger ones." I joke as I close the knife and put it back into my purse.
