After a heated conversation with Michael, I finally accepted his proposal to give us a ride home. I told him that we could take a commercial plane and that I didn't want to be an inconvenience to him but he insisted. After all I was his employee as he put it.
The hospital gave my sister a room to examine her and my nephew properly. They had only minor injures but I insisted that they be taken care of before we left. As for me when the doctor finally gave me the okay to sleep and I dropped dead. It was 2 in the morning.
The next morning we all vacated the premises of the hospital and went to the hotel. Martin had a million questions like "where the hell we were?", "why did we never come back?", and stuff but we simply said that there was an "accident." Well, at least I did, Michael just grumbled to himself like a 5-year-old.
While we were packing, he kept pestering me about the accident but I just told him that it was nothing to worry about. I took care of the situation and it would never happen again.
When we were packing the car with our shit, Patton wanted to go say "hi" to mother before we left but I made an excuse and told her there was no time. I couldn't see that woman again. It cause me pain and high blood pressure.
As soon as we were boarding the plane Michael came up with a "brilliant idea".
"Now your sister can live with your friend while you live with me." he suggested.
"Michael, we already talked about this" I snapped. He was so stubborn.
Why doesn't he understand that I don't want to live with him? Living with him again was a terrible idea.
"Yes but I want to clarify everything that will happen once we go back to America" he said in a commanding way.
He was so funny. How dare he think he could command me? What the hell did I look like?
"I will not live with you Michael" I said in a dismissive voice as I picked underneath my finger nails.
So dirty.
"We'll see." he said harshly.
Once we got in our seats, Michael and I were giving each other the death stare. Then I got tired of staring at his face and I started to play Candy Crush on my phone. His eyes were still on me.
***
From the airplane, to the limo and then to my place. We were in front of the complex in a jiffy.
"So are we just going to drop her off or..." Michael asked as we unloaded my things. Then I gave Michael the "shut the fuck up" look.
When we reached the door, Tiffany opened it. She had the biggest smile in the world and then started to she jump up and down.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" she squeal and gave me the tightest hug in the world.
Fuck.
"Birthday?" Michael and Patton questioned.
"Yea it's her birthday asshole." Tiffany said, giving a glare to Michael and then her eyes brightened when they looked at me. I just sighed and went inside.
"Oh shit I'm so sorry Jeanie I totally forgot it was your birthday" Patton said as she covered her mouth in shock.
I wasn't. No one in my family remembered my birthday except for my grandfather. But I only saw him sometimes so it basically felt like I didn't have one. It wasn't important to anyone else, so why should it be important to me?

Tiffany only knows because she decided to be a noisy little Bitch and snoop through my wallet. She found my license and saw the day.
"It's fine Patton" I said uninterested and then went inside my room.
I was going to kill Tiffany.
I threw my bags on the floor and then threw myself on my comfy bed to get some shut eye. I wanted it to be tomorrow.
Then someone poked me in the side. I opened my eyes slightly and saw Michael with an amused look on his face.
"So it's your birthday?" he said through his grin.
"Sadly" I sighed.
"What do you mean? You should be excited." he said with such enthusiasm.
Ugh
"I don't really like my birthday" I explained and then sat up from my bed.
"Why not?" he questioned.
"Issues." I said vaguely.
"Well, we should celebrate either way. We'll have a get together at our house."he suggested.
"It's not my house Michael it's yours and I would rather just stay here. Sleeping the day away" I said uninterested.
"Jeanette we are having this party. I'll even let your rude friend help me." he said as he stood up to go to the door.
"If you guys wanna make me happy. Don't have a party." I cheered.
"Too late" he said with a shrug.
"GIRL WITH THE BLONDE HAIR! WE'RE PLANNING A PARTY FOR JEANETTE!" he hollered from outside my room.
"MY NAME IS TIFFANY ASSHOLE!" Tiffany yelled back irritated.
"WHATEVER!" Michael said as he rolled his eyes.
"These imbeciles don't even like each other, how are they going to plan a party?" I muttered bitterly to myself.
"You can sleep but I will be here at 6, so be ready" Michael said and disappeared from my room. I groaned into my pillow.
"I officially hate everyone" I exasperated into my pillow. Before I knew it I was sleeping. When I woke up it was 4:30.
"Kill me now" I groaned as I got out of bed to go take a shower. When I went inside there was an outfit hanging and a note: Put this on or else Bitch!!
I took a shower put on the outfit Tiffany forced on me and then went to my living room. There was Michael in a suit.
"Why so early?" I said as I scanned him. He was wearing some nice causal clothes.
"I couldn't wait to see you" he said softly. My heart melted.
"Such a softy" I teased and then pushed him playful.
"Listen... I know that presents are suppose to be for later but..." he said as he dug around in his pocket for something. Then he pulled out a purple small velvet box.
"Here" he said as he got down on one knee and opened the box. The ring made my heart skip a beat and my lungs were out of air in a good way this time.
"Michael it's beautiful" I said as I hesitantly took the ring from the box and stared at it.
"Look on the back of it" he said. I turned to the back of the ring and saw an inscription.
"You idiot you craved dimples on here." I said through a smile. He is so stupid but cute. There was a little heart on the I of dimples.
"What can I say I watch a lot of sappy movies?" he teased.
I kept playing with it in my hand. I was scared to put in on and I think he saw that.

"Here let me put it on for you" he said as took the ring from me and gently placed it on my finger. It fit perfectly.
"How do you know my ring size?" I asked.
"I looked at your shoe size when we were at the hotel" he simply said.
"Going through my things?" I accused.
"Only looking for your shoes. When we were in France everyone was asking where your ring was so I decided to get one" he said casually.
"Well thank you again." I whispered as I looked up to him taking my eyes off the ring.
He was inching towards my face and then he pecked my lips. His lips were so smooth and inviting. We just continued to kiss like that. It was light.
"This is a terrible idea." I interrupted.
"Lets go" he said and dragged me through the front door.
When we reached the house, it looked so alive. There were bright lights illuminating the house and it looked so inviting. We walking in and saw everyone having a good time.
"Even Wes is here? I thought you would have forbidden him from coming." I said amused and a little surprised. Michael probably hated Wes from that small incident we had.
"He means something to you and so I let him come. But if he flirts with you God help me" he said and guided me inside. Everyone said "happy birthday", hugged me and we had delicious cake. Everything was great until my sister gave an announcement.
"Can I get everyone's attention?" she said and started tapping on the glass that she had. Everyone was in the living room so we all settled down and looked at her.
"Jeanie I love you and I wanted to make this birthday very special so I had someone very special flying last minute for your party" she said with such excitement.
"Who? I asked.
Everyone was here?
She went to the door and then opened it. My father walked in. The minute I saw him the glass in my hand slipped and broke on the floor. The feeling of happiness left me. My body went tense and my heart felt like it stopped beating.
I could feel the eyes staring me down because I broke the glass.
What the Fuck is going on here?
"Jeanette. It's been a long time. How have you been?" He said as he looked at me with his piercing eyes and kept his stance in front of the door.
Silence. I said nothing. My mouth was dry. I felt just like I did when I was 10. I wanted to die right there on the spot.
Oh dear God where's that shotgun?
"Happy birthday." He mocked.
"How old are you now like 21" he said interested.
Silence. More silence.
What do I say? Fuck you?
"I see you managed to keep the weight." He flatly.
Silence is killing me.
"I got a present for you. Here." He said and then handed it to Patton and she gave it to me. I looked back and forth between him and the card box that was barely close.
"Well open it you idiot." He snapped. I opened it like a robot.
A bottle of pills. They were strong doses of pills that could kill you.
"Just in case you wanna end it all. I brought a back up." He said. He was mocking me with a cruel joke.
I looked at the pills and then at him then dropped them. Everyone was looking at me. So I decided to do the most ration thing I could do. I took Michael's glass of champagne and chugged it down.
"That's some good champagne" I said in a raspy voice and looked at the empty glass cup.
"Anyways... Thank you for the party it was lovely. Thank you all for coming." I said sincerely as I glanced at all of my friends. Then my gaze went to my father.
"Especially to you, beloved father. It's nice to see you after 7 years. I'm 24 by the way" I said through a fake smile and a fake cheery tone.
"I didn't want to come but Patton insisted. I would do anything for my daughter." He hissed.
"Thank you Patton. Thank you. Thank you..." I kept repeating like a broke record. I was angry with her but I didn't want to do anything to her so threw the glass at my dad but he moved and it hit a wall.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU JEANETTE?!" Patton yelled at me outraged and then she pushed me back a little. This is the second time she's done this.
"A lot of things" I said confidently.
"YOUR ALWAYS TRYING TO HURT DAD EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO YOU. YOU SHOULD LOVE YOUR FATHER. I KNOW YOU'VE HAD YOUR DIFFERENCES BUT HURTING HIM IS NOT THE ANSWER. WHAT KIND OF DAUGHTER ARE YOU?" Patton screamed in my face. My sister betrayed me again.
"Thank you Patton" I said in a distant voice. Then I walked out of the room all calmly and left the room fully of people behind. When I got outside I started to run and I didn't look back.
When I got far enough I called a car so they could bring me to my save house. I couldn't go back. If I did I would have killed him. And no one wants to see the slug that might come out of him when I cut him open.
I went straight to the bathroom and cried. My hand was furiously running through my hair and I just allowed my tears to fall freely. I didn't know what to do. I looked everywhere for my razor but I didn't find any. I ran out. The house looked all torn up like I had a nervous break down or something.
I just collapsed on the floor and cried like I use to do when that man caused me pain. When all the tears left me I just stayed there shaking.
I'm worthless.
That's what he always said and that's what I will always believe.
"So what happened to the party people! Shouldn't we be having fun?" Jeanette's dad yelled in amusement. I wasn't amused. I was furious. I didn't know what to do.
I should have stuck up for her. And when she left I was instantly ashamed of myself.
"Dad those weren't nice things" Patton scowled her father.
"She'll get over it Patton. She always does." Her father said with a grin.
How could he be happy when he just hurt his daughter?
"You must be the poor sucker that married that ugly bitch. How's that working out for you?" He asked me all of a sudden.
"You should have married someone nice like my eldest. Patton" he said and then made a gesture towards Patton.
"Daddy stop" Patton said sternly.
"Patton please. You are more beautiful. " he said loving to her.
Silence. No one has said anything since Jeanette left.
"I'll just go get a drink." He said and started to walk toward the kitchen but he didn't get far. I grabbed his collar and punched his jaw. He passed out cold.
"YOU JACKASS!" Jeanette's sister yelled as she went to her father.
I ignored her.
"Does anyone know where Jeanette might have gone?" I ask the crowd but no one answered. Just blank stares.
"Okay party's over everyone get the fuck out of my house." I yelled and everyone scattered.
Once I was alone I left the house and started to drive around the city to try and see where she had gone but I found nothing. I checked her apartment. Talked to the rude blonde lady that lived with her. Asked that asshole Wes. They were all dead ends. I waited up to a week and then I couldn't take it anymore. I was close to calling in a missing person report until the door rang. I was in my study and ran over to open it. But the only person I saw was Jeanette's miserable father and her sister.
"Where's Jeanette?" he hissed.
"I don't know you drove her away." I growled.
"Son let me rephrase my statement" He said and walked right into my house with Patton trailing him like a lost dog.
"Bring Jeanette to me" he ordered.
"Why would I do that?" I spat and then grabbed his collar. When I did that Patton gasped and put her hand on her mouth. He made Jeanette leave. He caused my Jeanette pain.
"You better get her or you'll have to suffer first." He said and then pushed me away from him.
"Your the one who made my fucking wife leave" I said through a clench jaw.
"That thing doesn't deserve the title "wife"" he laughed in a bitter tone.
"Bring me Jeanette NOW!" he bellowed.
"NO!" I yelled back and then we were about to attack each other but the door opened. Jeanette walked in whistling happily.
"Hello all" she said with a bright smile.
"Bitch. You came back" Jeanette's father said sharply.
"Hello father. I see your still alive" she said with the same sharpness.
"Jeanette-" her sister gasped.
"Jeanette you better not talk to me like that. You know what I'm capable of" he snared.
"I guess you didn't learn your lessons" he continued.
"More like abuse, but you can call it whatever you want. What do you want father dearest?" She said sweetly.
Who the Fuck is this? Why was she not angry? Why was she not cursing him out?
"I want you to come back to Florida with me" he hissed.
Never was my automatic thought.
"You want me to go live with you?" she question with a confused look. Then she busted into laughter. She stayed like that for about two minutes and then she spoke.
"Are you insane? Of course not" she said through her laughs.
"Jeanette if-" Patton started to talk sharply but Jeanette cut her.
"Patton if you don't know what this is about, I suggest you shut the fuck up" Jeanette snapped.
"Don't talk to my daughter like that you slut" the father barked.
"Funny. I thought I was your daughter too" Jeanette laughed bitterly.
"No one would be proud to have a daughter like you, so why should I advertise it?" he snapped.
"Again very good to see you dad. I enjoy your visits" Jeanette said in a cheery tone.
"I see you didn't use the pills. Your so ungrateful. I finally give you a birthday present and you just leave it on the floor." He said disappointed.
"I don't celebrate birthday's father. You made sure of that." Jeanette said dully. There was silence. The air was tense.
"Both of you get out of my house." Jeanette finally said.
"Your house? I don't think you know what work is" her father mocked.
"Get out of our house." I said and then stood next to by my wife.
"I'll be back" he lowly and then left with Patton trailing behind him.
"Where have you been?" I asked as I went to hug her. I missed her.
"A place." She simply said and wiggled out of my hug. She was about to leave but I had to ask her a question. Every time something went wrong she went to one thing. One thing I knew very well.
"Did you..." I started to say but stopped.
"What.." she asked.
"Did you... hurt yourself?" I hesitantly asked concerned.
"Sadly no. I misplaced my razors. I need to restock." She said in a dull voice.
"Jeanette I think it's time to see that therapist we discussed in Paris" I snapped. I didn't like that she was planning to hurt herself.
"And I thought I ended that discussion by telling you I don't do therapy. I'm fine. Still in one piece as you can clearly see." She snapped.
"Jeanette, I think therapy is the best for you." I said calmly.
"Michael. Can we not do this right now? I don't care what you think is best for me. I just-I just want to relax. I came here because I felt bad that I left so abruptly but maybe I shouldn't have come back." She lashed out and then ran up the stairs. I followed her and she went inside the bathroom locking it.
He doesn't understand. Why can't he leave me alone? Jesus.
I sat on the toilet and cried. I balled and then a thought went in my mind.
Razor top draw.
The hidden razor. I remembered I placing some razors in Michael's bathroom when I use to live here. Maybe I could just.... But then I thought against it. I was fighting with myself. I wanted to cut but something was eating away at me telling me to stop. That bitch was always contradicting my choices. She was the only part of me that wanted to live for some reason.
"Jeanette please open the door." Michael said softly, breaking my thoughts.
I didn't answer. The only things on my mind was my family.

8 271The Kiss of Two Moons
The last year is upon us. The world is ending, but you already knew that; everyone does. Spring has come, and the flowers have bloomed here in this small town with no name. Thousands of different colours now paint the field that had been coloured by frost alone just yesterday. The townsfolk have gathered by the field to celebrate the beginning of the last spring with so many smiling faces. Tears too. I can’t help but wonder whether the flowers will bloom again before the sky falls upon us. Others must be thinking the same. There are moments when the smiles fade and their eyes glaze over as they realize just how near to the end we are. They forget it again in moments. They make themselves forget. The children aren’t like that, though. They don’t seem to understand, or they’ve come to accept it in a way that their parents just can’t manage to. This one boy actually asked me why I was sad. I had to wonder whether he was actually aware that the world is ending, but it seemed wrong to mention it. I ended up just telling him that I was waiting for someone, and he scampered off, wearing a silly smile. I can’t help but feel jealous of him. The beginning of next spring; the day that the world ends. It seems so far away, yet so close. Wherever you are now, I have to ask, how are you spending your last spring? Did you get to see the flowers bloom? Did you smile? Did you cry?
