"Evacuate, now!"
The words echoed through the whole room as the teacher at the door screamed on the top of his lungs and within a second, the whole hall was full of chaos when the students started running outside. Well trying to because they were after each other on who will get out first.
Only one feeling inside that was fear. The fear of uncertainty, the fear of the unknown. It was funny to see the students of a prestigious institution to act like this when they should have been calm and composed at this hard minutes however can't blame them, the terror was way too much and overpowered every kind of thinking capabilities they had in them.
Jeongguk along with the others were slowly making their way out. They were trying to remain as calm as possible but the crown behind them wasn't letting them to be as they kept on pushing forward.
"Fucking move, Jeongguk."
"Hell!" Jeongguk mumbled and was about to lose balance when Jimin held him and helped him maintain his balance and in a minute they got out.
Once out of the hall, they were running down the stairs but in the middle Jeongguk stopped and started running in the opposite direction. But with the overflowing crowd and chaos, none of his friends, old or new could make it with him as he was the only one to run towards the chamber where his father was kept for treatment.
"What the fuck is Jeongguk doing?" Namjoon asked to no one in particular as they all made their way down and soon enough, they were in the big land inside the campus in front of the building.
"All the students of Belfort, we are in an emergency. So, stay calm and composed. You all will be safe. Keep your wands close, just in case—" one of the teacher's shouted and all the students just gulped, some of them kept on chanting holy words and some of them kept on glancing at their classmates or friends not knowing what's this all about and stuff, some were craving some adventures.
"I hope Jeongguk is okay," Jackson mumbled looking over at the sky and the around. All the students were holding onto their wands as if they was their swords and they were in the middle of any battle.
"Look, there!" one of them shouted, pointing up at the blue, clear sky and each and every one of them could see that creature flying in the sky. It looked like a bird but at the same time it didn't look like one.
It was looking like some kind of hybrid and Taehyung noticed how it was flying around the height where the healing room was, where the mage was kept.
The professors and the advisors and everyone belonging to Belfort was out in the big garden except Jeongguk, the mage and the ones in duty of his healing. They evacuated when someone saw the creature inside the campus flying around and tried attacking people.

"This is a trap," Taehyung muttered under his breath and observed the creature up above that tried to hit the close windows of the healing chamber now validating all of his thoughts and doubts.
"Guys, it's trying to get the mage and Jeongguk is there too, we have to help!" he shouted out, running forward, Namjoon and the others followed and looked up watching the horrific scene.
Taehyung immediately held his wand up and cast the spell, "Sevir Ascariaz."
And all the students watched a flash of lightning, more like a bolt hitting the creature which was too sudden for it and it got infuriated that instantly.
For counter attack, it stopped hitting the window and now was heading towards Taehyung who panicked. The war begun and the brunet didn't comprehend that he will be the target next which was actually uh very predictable? However when the situation was like this, he lost his capacity to think and probably anyone would so fair enough.
Seeing it coming after him with full speed, he closed his eyes and muttered a inaudible 'fuck' but before the creature could attack him, Namjoon, Hoseok and some others pulled out their wands and in unison cast the same spell as Taehyung did a minute ago.
The brunet landed on his ass on the ground due to the huge impact of the wind created by the humongous wings belonging to the creature which now struggled to keep it's balance in the air as soon as a lot of lightings hit it in different places.
Taehyung hugged himself for self protection and was waiting for it to attack but when it didn't plus the loud screams of the spells made him look again and he saw how the powers of many spells combined together took the creature down.
The huge collision of magic in form of lightning which got wider and hit that one thing with full force. It was gorgeous to look at, a miraculous sight to behold and everyone there were just so surprised.
The way the blue wave went and surrounded it from all sides and attacked it just when it was clueless. It was only possible because the powers merged and they did it together.
Magic gets stronger when used together and it was a perk of team work. A beautiful composition.
It landed on the grass with a huge thud and all the students along with the management staff took multiple steps behind.
The acting head master in absence of Jeongguk's father quickly ran over to that wounded creatures squirming and making low intensity noises and pointed that wand at it, just in case it gets up.
But what happened next was more disastrous than it getting up.
The creature was shifting into something else, something human.
And they knew who it was.

"It's professor Moreon!" she gasped watching the black bird thing shifting to someone she knew so well. He was all wounded in all the places, he lost consciousness and was now laying on the ground, harmless.
All the people present there were shocked to see who was the one behind all these. He was the one making holes in the veil and he was the one who petrified Jeongguk's dad is all they thought.
But how and why was the real question. His colleagues knew he was always fascinated by dark arts and now they were having theories on what's the source of this powerful and pernicious spells. Of course it's the dark arts. No way it can be something else.
Taehyung didn't know how to react to this. The professor he thought was one of the best in Belfort despite the fact that sometimes he didn't like him one bit but still seeing someone he watched almost every day turning out to be one of his worst nightmare— he was baffled. Totally bewildered and perplexed on what just happened with him. Whatever it was, he had more important thing to do, check if Jeongguk and his father was doing alright.
They were most probably okay cause he just distracted the professor in disguise of a creature and almost died there for it however he can't be in peace until he sees it himself.
He started running back in, Jimin following him behind and seeing that, one of the professors did too along with all of Jeongguk's friend circle which consists of three members.
Taehyung's steps were bigger than usual and very rapid.
Once he was there, he saw the door was wide open and Jeongguk was tightly hugging his petrified father sitting on the edge of the bed while one hand was out in the air holding onto his wand oh so compactly.
That one sight just made him so many emotions at once that he can't explain. He was feeling sad just thinking about how Jeongguk must have been feeling at the moment.
Also realized how much he loved his father that he didn't care about his safety. It's not like he wouldn't have done it for his father but also his father didn't deserve this and now he just wished, his father was a little kinder and gentler with him.
He just wished he wouldn't behave like he did and then probably Taehyung wouldn't be questioning if he would actually do what Jeongguk did for the mage.
Hearing no more bangings on the window and seeing his father alright, he thought maybe it was all okay now.
"Jeongguk," Taehyung called out and the blond guy immediately pulled away from the hug and turned around to see the other.
"Omg, Kim. Is everything alright? Did that thing whatever was hitting the window go away? Is dad safe now?" Jeongguk kept on asking different questions and before the older could reply, Hoseok appeared and pulled Jeongguk in a huge hug.
"You okay, bro?"
"Yeah, I am fine." Jeongguk assured and looked over the other's shoulder at Taehyung who smiled, "Everything's fine now, your dad is okay. Even if it wasn't, you are there to protect him, so no chance he isn't safe."
Jeongguk couldn't but smile at that and as Hoseok was hugging him tightly from the front and Jackson from the back and Namjoon from the right side, he from in the middle of them all reached out to hold Taehyung's hand that caught him by surprise.
With that bone crushing group hug he was experiencing, he still managed to smile widely at the older who simply nodded, muttering, "It's all okay now."
Jimin seemed to notice that and giggled at the small interaction before hugging Taehyung from behind, "Jeongguk, it was my Taetae who was the bravest of them to attack first and save you and the mage. You better give him a something. A double beef patty burger would be nice no?"
"Yeah, that would be great." Taehyung said and slowly pulled his hand out of the blond's hold as he was now a little embarrassed.
"Please, a burger is nothing. I owe him my life," Jeongguk said getting the hint that Taehyung felt awkward due to what he did and retracted his hand just before the group hug ended.
They watched the healers hiding in the bathroom inside get out and Jeongguk rolled his eyes when he remembered how he literally begged them to stay there with their wands to help him if something happens but they didn't stay and hid inside.
They now ran back to the mage and seeing him alright, they sighed in relief.
"Taehyung," Jeongguk immediately shifted his gaze from them to the older now and room a step closer. He again reached out for Taehyung's hands, this time both of them.
The older gulped and let him hold them up while he was feeling all the blood rushing to his face. For some reason, he was feeling weird, all these attention and sweet words from them was all new and he was just overwhelmed at the moment.
"Thank you, look I know a thank you isn't enough but really thank you. I promise to be always by your side, Kim Taehyung. No matter what happens."

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
