《Water and Ice | Shoto Todoroki》Chapter 66-Desires and Fires

I broke the surface of the water with a splash. Todoroki came up above the water a few feet away from me.

"OH MY GOD YOU GUYS WERE DOWN THERE FOR SO LONG I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!!" Ura exclaimed.

I couldn't help but let out a small laugh.

"We're fine. Just wet and cold." I responded.

"HOW DID YOU EVEN BREATHE DOWN THERE??" She asked.

"I have my ways." I replied.

It seemed like the whole class had crowded around the edge of the dock to watch us come up. I swam back the shore, Todoroki not too far behind me.

I wasn't really sure what to say to him. Sure, we had kissed, but what did that even mean for us?

I found it hard to believe that after all this time of wondering and confusion that he was finally making a move. Still, that feeling I had felt when he kissed me...surely that couldn't be fake.

I reached a place where I could touch the bottom and made my way out of the water. I was a little tired from that stunt I pulled with the air bubble and then getting that water out of Todoroki. Ura had already come over with towels and handed one to me.

"Thanks." I said as I began drying myself off.

"So what actually happened down there?" She whispered so no one else would hear.

"I'll tell you later." I replied quietly.

She nodded, smirking. I finished drying off and it mostly went back to normal.

I went and hung out with Ura and a few of the other girls and we continued our fun at the lake.

The rest of our time at the beach went pretty well. There weren't many more incidents besides Kaminari almost electrocuting everyone in the water, so I'd say it turned out better than expected.

Now we were collecting supplies for the bonfire we were having tonight.

"Ugh. Another stupid splinter." Ura grumbled.

I suppressed a smile and picked up another stick.

"How many is that? 15?" I asked.

"More like 51." She rolled her eyes in annoyance.

We continued picking up more sticks and kindling.

"I think this'll be enough." I said after a few more minutes of collecting.

She nodded and we began heading back to the campsite. We reached it and saw that the others were already starting to build the fire up. We had a few makeshift benches made from large logs so me and Ura sat down on one.

After a little while, our classmates finished setting up the fire and everyone else had returned. Todoroki was using his fire to light it, and it worked pretty well. The kindling caught and then the sticks and logs, turning the wood into a mass of roaring flames.

We sat around it together, and it began to get dark. We cooked our dinner over it, and it worked surprisingly well.

Soon enough we were having s'mores and telling ghost stories in the dim light of the night.

I looked across the fire at Todoroki, only to find him staring back at me. I held his gaze for a moment, but then looked away.

I could feel the tension surrounding us, it was so obvious I could cut it with a knife. A butter knife.

Hell, I could cut it with a stupid spoon if I wanted to.
