《Water and Ice | Shoto Todoroki》Chapter 65-Kisses with the Fishes

I sighed as I laid out in the sun, it was relaxing to listen to the soft waves coming from the shoreline of the lake.
But what wasn't relaxing was all of my other classmates yelling and splashing around on the beach.
After we had finished with the tents Mina suggested we go out by the lake to hang out and have fun. Everyone had agreed, so now we were out here.
I was currently resting on my towel in the sand, but the others were either swimming, out on the dock, or playing along the shore. It felt really nice to just have a break from all the intense training and constant life-threatening situations.
I felt myself drifting to sleep as I blocked out the sounds of my chaotic classmates.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was jolted awake by sudden movement.
I quickly looked around and realized I was getting raised up. It took me a few seconds to realize what was actually happening, but I was getting raised up by my classmates.
It looked like they were trying to carry me down the dock, but I had no idea why.
"Hey! Put me down!" I protested.
I tried writhing out of their grasp, but it was no use.
I had no idea why they were doing this, until I saw it. Apparently I wasn't the only one about to get dumped in the lake. Todoroki was also getting carried to the end of the dock.
There was no way to escape, and I realized Mina and Ura must've planned this. With a sudden force of movement, I was sent over the edge of the dock and into the freezing water.
I slowly sank to the bottom, and struggled for air. I quickly realized my panic was unnecessary though, I literally have a water quirk.
I used my quirk to create an air bubble around myself so I was able to breathe and look around. I suddenly saw Todoroki who had sank as well, and expanded the bubble to fit him as well. He didn't move though, which I worried me.
I went closer to him and realized he must've taken in too much water from the fall. I silently cursed Mina and Ura for potentially hurting our classmate. I put my hands on his chest, and focused on his breathing and the water inside of him.
I'd never tried anything like this before, and if I messed up it could be worse than leaving him like this. I felt the excess water in his lungs, and I put my attention towards it. I slowly removed it, and the lake water left his mouth. I felt his chest again, but he still wasn't breathing.
I blinked back the stinging sensation in my eyes. It wouldn't end like this, it couldn't end like this. There was no way I was going to let him die from some stupid prank our friends had pulled.
Suddenly something just clicked in my brain, before I knew it I was leaning forward, pulling him closer and interlocking his lips in mine. I only stayed there for a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity.
I pulled away, and suddenly he started coughing. I sucked in a surprised breath and hugged him.
"Don't scare me like that idiot!" I exclaimed.
I pulled away from him and realized he was looking at me in a weird way.
"What?" I asked.
"Did you just...kiss me?" He asked after a moment.
My face immediately turned as red as Kirishima's hair.
"Uh- I- Um- I didn't mean to-" I tried to stutter out a response.
I was interrupted by him leaning forward and kissing me again.
My eyes widened, but I didn't pull away. Instead, I kissed back. After a few moments he pulled away again.
"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that." He said.
I couldn't help but smile at the sensation that was still left on my lips. I noticed him smiling too, which only made me happier. He took my hands in his and intertwined our fingers together.
What I had been hoping for all this time had finally happened, and there was no other way to describe the feeling circulating through me other than complete joy.
Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
