《Water and Ice | Shoto Todoroki》Chapter 37-Wait for it

The last matches of the first round, and then the initial battles of the second round went by. I tried to keep my attention on the fight, but I couldn't help but have my my wander towards my anticipation for my own match. I couldn't help but fidget in my seat the whole time I watched.
Finally, the time(a little too early for my taste) came for my second match, against Bakugo. As nervous as I'd ever be, I got up and said goodbye to Ura and Todoroki. I went through the hallways again and came out of the entrance.
Sure, I'd faced off against Bakugo during training and class, but that was different. There were so many people watching, and so many opportunities if I did well. So much crushing doubt for what would happen if I failed.
Bakugo faced me and we both glared at each other. I was still a little angry with him for going so hard on Ura, she was feeling horrible and it was his fault. I got ready and so did he.
"Begin!" Midnight announced.
Bakugo charged at me, but I just stood there. I was near the out of bounds line and he probably thought he could explode me out. I waited until he was close. I saw his eyes widen as realization hit him. He was about two feet away, and he couldn't stop now. I jumped and floated on a cloud, dodging him. He skidded to a stop, his foot less than an inch away from the boundary line.
"Damn it!" He yelled.
"You should've seen that one coming. I've already beat you with it in training before." I called from above, almost laughing.
I could feel his anger intensify. He used his explosions to try and get on my level, but I simply dodged him on my cloud again. I did this multiple times, and I could tell his frustration was building.

"Come on...just a little more..." I said under my breath.
I was very near the boundary line, but he didn't seem to notice. He was too caught up in his frustration and rage to see my plan. He came at me again, but this time I swiveled around behind him and sent him forward with a blast of water. He wasn't expecting it, and was too disoriented to fight back or counter. Of course I cushioned the impact(I'm not that evil), but he fell right out of bounds.
"Bakugo has been knocked out of bounds! Y/n is the winner!" Midnight declared.
I floated back down to the ground, and tried to help Bakugo up, but he refused. He got up on his own and walked away angrily. I sighed and walked out through the other end. I went back up to the stands to Ura and Todoroki and sat down with them.
"Nice job y/n!" Ura congratulated as she gave me a high-five.
"You both fought well, but you outsmarted Bakugo." Todoroki summarized.
I smiled.
"Thanks guys. I honestly didn't think my plan would work, but I guess I got lucky." I shrugged.
"That wasn't luck, it was strategy." Todoroki corrected.
"Yeah...I guess it was..." I made the mistake of looking back towards him, catching his gaze and getting lost in his eyes again.
We we just watched each other, and I felt a wave of calmness and reassurance wash over me as I held his stare. Whenever I was around him, I just felt safe, like the world couldn't touch me. We were in our own little bubble.
And then Ura popped it.
"WELL! I think it's time for Todoroki's battle!" She broke the silence.
I nodded and looked away.

"Good luck, I'm sure you'll win." I tried giving encouragement.
He nodded and walked away. Once he was gone, Ura started to talk.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" She asked excitedly.
I shrugged.
"So I'm not allowed to look at him?" I asked her, already knowing she would overreact.
"No. I mean, that was like a LONG look. Like you guys were staring into each other's eyes for a LONG time. I definitely felt like a third wheel. Are you sure you guys aren't dating?" She giggled.
I rolled my eyes.
"No. And I highly doubt we ever will. He's out of my league anyway." I sighed.
"WHAT?! If anything, you're out of his." She crossed her arms.
"Yeah sure." I responded sarcastically.
"I'm serious! Stop putting yourself down. You're sweet, caring, smart, and awesome! If you don't see that...then maybe you're just blind!." She was almost exasperated at the idea of me not understanding what she was saying.
I shook my head but didn't reply.
I watched the match and wondered, what if he actually was out of my league, and he had just been leading me on all this time?
