《Friends with the Football Team》23~ Good in Red

"How was your birthday?" Lena asked me. "I'm so sorry I couldn't make it. I was too busy getting enrolled in Greenhill High School" She smirked.
"Oh my gosh no way" Connor jumped up and hugged her. She giggled and wrapped her arms around his neck for support when he spun her around.
We all burst with happiness. It was me, the boys, including Will, Remi, and Lena. We were sitting in our living room just hanging out and watching movies.
"You have got to be shitting me right now" I was the second one to hug her.
She shook her head with a smile. "I'm being one hundred percent serious"
"We're all happy you're going to be at school with us" Carter said.
"Sucks to be you losers, she's in my class" Coop stuck his tongue out at the rest of us.
Will laughed and Con smacked his chest. Con turned to Lena.
"How'd you get your parents to agree to it?" He asked. I think he was the most excited that Lena was moving to our school. They text almost nonstop and he's always smiling at her text. I can tell he really likes her, but he won't confess to it.
"Well I told them what happened at the party and that I met some amazing people that go to Greenhill and the immediately agreed to let me go there."
Connor's face paled a little bit. "Lena, you told them?" He asked.
She nodded. "We can talk about it later. Right now I just want to hang out with my new friends." she told him. He nodded in understanding.
I assume she told him already. She talks to him all the time and by the way he reacted, he definitely knew.
"And to answer your question Lena, I had a amazing birthday."
"Your present is in my car" She said as if she remembered all of a sudden. She hopped up to go get and Connor followed.
We were all talking as we waited for them to come back. She walked through the door with a wrapped box in her hands.
"I was gonna have me coming to school with you as a present but I decided to get you a little something else"
I opened the box to find a few face masks, some chocolate, a mug, and some nail polish. I grabbed the card that read, "Happy birthday to you, you deserve a day to yourself so here's a spa day in a box just for you. Happy birthday Cora. Love, Lena"
"Aww, I love it" I stood up and hugged her. "Thanks Lena"
"You're welcome Cor." She smiled and wrapped her arms around me.
"Oh yeah, I could beat you in an arm wrestle any day" Carter challenged Connor.
I rolled my eyes at their behavior. How does this happen all the time? "This happens all the time. It's pretty much a daily occurrence." I laughed lightly at Lena's shocked and slightly concerned look on her face.
The two boys set up for an arm wrestling competition on the coffee table. I laughed and sat back on the couch with an amused look. Everyone took a side and began cheering them on. Carter won and they started playing best two out of three.

Will came and sat on the couch next to me. His arm almost immediately found its way around my shoulders.
"How are you today?" he asked as we watched the scene in amusement.
I leaned my head on his shoulder. "I'm great, my best friends and I are all hanging out and no one has once mentioned football. I love it and all, but they make it seem like their only personality trait" I laughed. Although what I said was a joke, it was half true. Every time one of the boys is around they feel the need to play football.
I could see Carter slightly glaring at us from the ground. He hated when Will and I were even somewhat affectionate or friendly towards each other. Something about him being his best friend and not mine.
"I'm glad you're happy, snowflake" He smiled at me.
His smile made me feel all giddy inside. Something about him drew me in and I loved every second of it. Will made me feel like I was actually a special person. I hadn't ever felt that because of my mom. Yeah I had my brothers and my dad, who tried to make me feel special and it worked for a short period of time. After I got to bed I couldn't help but think, why didn't my mother want me? That question still haunts me to this day.
"Okay, I'm bored what do you guys want to do?" Carter hopped up from the ground where he was with the other brothers.
We decided to go outside. None of us really had anything else to do.
The girls came up to me with cheeky grins across their faces. "Don't worry about you and Will, Cor. We've got a plan" Lena said to me.
I looked to Remi to try and give me some clue as to what Lena was talking about. "We've seen the way Carter has been looking at you two. Trust us, we have this under control" She winked at me.
Coming from them two, there wasn't enough assurance in those seven words.
"Tag!" Remi screamed before taping Lena on the shoulder. I looked around in confusion as the boys started running in different directions.
Lena tagged me and ran off with the rest of them. I was running around trying to catch someone when Will, gave me a challenging look. He almost dared me to try and catch him and that's exactly what I did.
The girls somehow ended up ushering the boys inside, leaving Will and I alone outside. I see what they're doing.
"I'm going to get you Erickson" I said.
"You'd have to catch me first Barnes" he teased me.
We ran around and I chased him all throughout the yard. It wasn't until I tripped and Will caught me that we stopped running.
My breathing hitched at the lack of distance between us. Will had his arms wrapped around my waist to steady me. I looked up to his face and he was already looking down at me. My cheeks turned red and I wanted to turn my face away to hide my blush, but I couldn't. I hate how he makes blush just by looking at me.

"Are you okay?" he whispered in my ear and caused shivers to run down my spine. I couldn't articulate a response and hummed a yes as an answer.
My eyes flickered down to his perfect lips and perfect smile. I could see his eyes flicker down to my lips. Before I could stop myself, I reached up on my tippy-toes and wrapped my arms around his neck. We both leaned in until our lips met in the middle.
He picked me up by the waist and spun me around. "You have no idea how long I wanted to do that" he whispered in my ear, which caused a blush to form on my face.
"Yeah me too" I smiled at him.
He pressed another kiss to my lips, just a little peck, before my brothers came outside and we jumped away from each other.
"Hey guys, what'd we miss?" Coop said and wrapped his arms around our shoulders, which was easiest for him because he was the closest to Will height out of all of our brothers.
Will's and my faces turned red. "Nothing much, we were just talking" I said.
"You looked a little close for just talking" Carter mumbled under his breath, but I heard him. That earned him a smack to the stomach, not only by me but by Remi too.
"Well while you two were out here, we came up with an amazing idea." Lena sang happily.
"We're making a fort" Coop squealed.
"We already got the blankets and pillows ready to go, now we actually have to build it, so let's go" Remi stated and grabbed my wrist. She and Lena dragged me inside while the boys followed us inside.
It only took us half an hour, Cooper yelling, and at least three bedrooms worth of pillows and blankets but at least our fort was done.
We all got into our fort and snuggled up together. I was next to Remi and Will, but it was really everyone next to everyone. There wasn't a whole lot of space, but there was enough to for all of us.
"Oh dang it we forgot snacks." Coop frowned.
"I'll get it" Will and I said creepily at the same time. We both laughed it off.
"Don't worry snowflake, I'll get the snacks" Will offered.
"Oh it's okay I can get them" I said.
"You can both go get them" Lena suggested with a little wink in my direction. I rolled my eyes at her but we took her advice anyway.
Will and I crawled out of the fort and made our way to the kitchen, not that it was a long walk. The kitchen was right beside the living room.
We stayed silent as we pulled out various types of snacks. I grabbed some candy from my secret stash for me and the girls.
Will went to grab drinks from the fridge. What I didn't know was that he opened a bottle of water. We both walked in opposite directions facing each other causing us to run into each other. The open water bottle spilled all over the two of us and the floor.
"I'm so sorry" I apologized. "It was an accident" I grabbed a towel and weirdly began to pat down his shirt.
"Hey" he said softly and grabbed my hands. "It's okay, accidents happen."
I nodded slowly and realized we also spilled it on the floor. I bent down to dry the water off the floor. Will bent down with me with a towel of his own. He began drying the spot with me.
"Thanks" I blushed. I feel awkward ever since the kiss but he seems completely unfazed by it.
"No problem snowflake" he smiled at me. His smile alone made me weak in the knees. We stood up and put the towels on the counter next to us. "Oh and by the way, you look good in red" he smirked.
I gave him a look of confusion and he walked off with a couple of the snacks and a smirk engraved in his mouth. I looked down at my shirt and realized it was white and my red bra was proudly showing through my shirt for anyone to see.
I gasped loudly and ran upstairs to change immediately. I can't believe Will saw my bra and had the audacity to tell me I looked good in red. I mean I do and I still had my shirt on, but that's besides the point.
I took a deep breath before leaving my room and grabbing the snacks that Will missed.
"What took you so long?" Con asked.
"We spilt some water. I was just cleaning it up and changing my shirt because it got wet" I explained.
He nodded and we went on with our movie.
"Kids?" Dad asked as he walked into our house. He's been going out a lot recently. He keeps saying he's got stuff to do, so I guess he's just really busy all of a sudden.
He peeped his head in our fort to see his four children and the additional the three they brought over.
"Oh hey Will, Remi, and Lena. Would you like to stay for dinner?"
"That'd be great, Thanks Mr. B" Remi smiled.
Lena answered either pretty much the same thing.
"Of course Coach" will answered.
He smiled at the seven of us. "Great, I'll order pizza. Cheese okay with everyone or pepperoni?"
"I'm more of a pepperoni person, but I'll eat cheese" Lena said.
We all came to an agreement of cheese. Dad left to go order it and we continued our movie.
Dad came in the fort with us for a little bit during dinner. We all were making terrible jokes and laughing uncontrollably. It was nights like these I cherished the most. No one cared about the outside world, in this case the rest of the house, and we were just together. These were the days that I felt special.

Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
