《Little Thief (Black Butler G/T)》Chapter Fifteen

When Sebastian was certain the Borrower wouldn't wake up if he moved, he shifted her from his palm onto the pillow so she could sleep peacefully somewhere comfortable. Her red hair fell over her face, her tiny chest rising and falling with each breath the small girl took.
Silently the demon butler left the room. He made his way down the near silent halls, back to the dining room where Ciel still sat at the table. The smug look on his face was evident, and Sebastian would love nothing more than to wipe that smirk right from his lips.
"Where is she now, Sebastian? Cowering in the walls?" The Young Earl spoke, his fingers laced together on the tabletop. His blue gaze bore into Sebastian, but the demon didn't back down.
"No, she is asleep currently. She does what she is told and in return, her tiny body nearly collapses from exhaustion. It is intriguing how one little being is more competent than those other three combined." Sebastian stood near Ciel's side now, gathering up the empty plates.
"Sleeping? Really? You'd think after I scared her like that she'd have run by now," Ciel muttered to no one in particular, his thumb brushing over the royal blue ring on his opposite thumb.
Now the butler was silent. That was true. Maybe she could have. He's left her alone in that room, she has every chance to run and hide. But if he focused his senses just enough, he could detect her weaker soul. Weaker only because she was asleep.
"I'm ready to retire for the night. I'll expect you in my room once you get these dishes cleaned up." The Young Earl spoke in a bored manner, waving his hand dismissively while standing from the head of the table.

Sighing lightly, Sebastian bowed at the waist and returned to gathering the used dishes, stacking them gracefully on top of each other despite how tall the pile was getting. No matter how many he added, he was easily able to balance them in one hand.
It didn't take the tall butler long at all to get everything cleaned up from the meal. And as he placed the final washed dish in a cupboard, a male's presence caught his immediate attention. It wasn't from his Young Master's room, nor the main hall. Perhaps his own room where he left the sleeping Borrower. He couldn't figure out why he couldn't pinpoint where this new presence was coming from. Trusting his instincts, however, he made his way to the servants quarters where his bedroom lies.
When he stepped into the room, Kadence was still sound asleep on the bed. That didn't last long when a gunshot went off that would have startled any being that size awake. And since he hadn't seen anyone, Sebastian was unprepared to somehow muffle the sound for the Borrower and a bullet struck him in the shoulder.
The demon didn't even flinch. He ignored Kadence's soft whimpers and confused stare. He was now focused on the male figure that emerged from his wardrobe. That was why he couldn't point out the exact location. His clothes were tainted with his own scent, which made it hard for him to sense anything else.
"My. You startled her. Now she's going to have trouble getting back to sleep." Sebastian spoke, clicking his tongue disapprovingly while taking a step toward the man.
The man's aim changed, the gun now turning to Kadence. "I'm supposed to collect her. They never told me in one piece." His dark green eyes were narrowed harshly, his dry lips turning upward when Sebastian stopped moving.

Kadence had no idea what was going on. She had been sleeping peacefully when she was awoken by a loud crack that nearly burst her eardrums, and now she was staring down the giant barrel of a rusty pistol. "S-Seb-?" The butler raised a hand toward her as a sign of her to be quiet. So the Borrower sat still, somewhat trusting the tall man. She was though more concerned with the bullet in his shoulder, but it didn't look like it was bothering him at all.
She saw that mark on his hand yesterday. What is he?
"I'll warn you once. If you harm her, I will kill you." Sebastian spoke, his deep voice containing a soft growl as he did. He knows she's seen the contract seal on his hand. There is no point in being secretive about his entire being any longer.
"Then do it." The male challenged, his finger pulling the trigger of the old gun.
There was a bright flash and another loud crack, and all Kadence could do was shield her head with her arms and wait. And she waited. For pain, for death, for anything. But it didn't come. All that came after the gunshot that made her ears ring was a soft gasp of shock and fear.
Sebastian had easily moved, the copper colored bullet held gently between his middle and ring finger a few mere inches from Kadence's cowering form. "Are all of your men this stupid? I thought I should expect a challenge."
He watched as the Borrower moved her arms, her small emerald eyes wide in complete terror when they landed on the bullet in front of her, pinched between his fingers. "Stay silent for another few seconds." The raven haired man whispered before turning to face the man who now stood with that smug look no longer on his face.
"I-I knew it. I told them all but they didn't believe me! But I knew what I saw! Y-You're a demon!"
Sebastian lifted a brow, curiously cocking his head to the side. "That I am. But how would you know?"
Now the man was silent, the gun shaking in his hands.
"I see. You're not going to talk. Very well, this is yours, yes?" Sebastian glanced at the bullet still grasped between his fingers. His own thin lips curled into a smirk and he pulled his arm back around his shoulder. Ready to throw the small metal piece, he again spoke. "Then let me return to you."
