《Little Thief (Black Butler G/T)》Chapter Two

Kadence stood silently in the shadow of a bookcase, watching the tall man wipe down a table while balancing a vase of white roses in his other hand. She's been watching all the humans, trying to learn their patterns and trying to decide when the best time to leave to sneak food was. The only issue was, this one didn't seem to have any specific ones except for when he served breakfast, lunch, dinner, and tea.

It made her a little nervous though, watching the humans. She knew it only took one tiny slip up for them to catch her. To kill her. She shuddered at that frightening thought and took a deep breath through her nose, exhaling through her mouth.

His large black shoes fell near her as they walked past, and she would have squealed but she managed to barely bite it back. Now, where was he going?

Slowly she began to follow the raven-haired man, doing her best to stay in the shadows of furniture. He was certainly fast. But then he stopped and looked over his shoulder, and she could have sworn he was staring right at her.

Sebastian felt like he was being watched. He could feel a pair of eyes staring at him. But he could not pinpoint their location.

Hearing very light footsteps, he turned his head over his shoulder and focused on the spot they came from, but there was nothing there. Had he been human, maybe he would have thought he was hearing things. There was no way this was the case here. Something was playing tricks on him. Mocking him. And he didn't like it.

His decent mood was definitely wearing thin and he stormed off to go outside to complete a few things on his list out there.

Kadence shivered under his gaze, even though he wasn't staring at her, his eyes were frightening. Stern, without a hint of emotion behind them.

After taking another deep breath she followed him through another door just as it shut behind him. She was proud of herself before she realized where they now were. Outside. Where tons of cats roamed around and there was a horrifying hound named Pluto. And the other three humans were out here too!

Kadence watched as the tall, black-haired man made his way over to a shrub, a very large pair of scissors in his hand. Swallowing the lump in her throat, she followed him.

Sebastian hummed as he trimmed the hedge with the Clippers, his ruby-colored eyes darting back and forth across the lawn to keep an eye on the other three servants. Finny was weeding, Mey-Rin was watering the flowers and Bard, well, Bard was being Bard. Most of his thoughts were bent on the strange presence he was sensing. It was human but very faint. But also very close.

Now worried that what he was sensing could be a possible attack on his Young Master, he turned his gaze to the servants with a closed-eye smile. "I believe it may rain today, go on inside but take the back door. If I find mud across the already clean and polished floors it will not end well for any of you." His smile remained perched on his face despite his words and watched as the three idiots practically clambered over each other to get inside.

"There. Now, wherever you are you best show yourself. I am in a fairly decent mood so I might not kill you as painfully as I would until after you attack my Master." He placed the Clippers in the freshly cut grass beside him, dusting his velvet-gloved hands together to wipe off any dirt before cracking his knuckles.

A soft rustling of a bush caught his immediate attention, and when no one came out of anywhere else he was drawn to the shrubbery. He hadn't seen any of his cats all day, so he was drawn to this bush as he hoped to see one. His tone changed to a more calm and gentle coo to lure the creature out. "Oh, come here little darling. Allow me to see your beautiful face and lovely little paws."

The bush rustled more and he caught a flash of reddish color, only slightly lighter than Mey-Rin's. Suddenly, much to his surprise, instead of a kitten or cat, a tiny figure emerged from the leaves. Its reddish hair was matted and tangled, and the clothes it was wearing were old and raggedy. "I-I'm t-terribly sorry that I am n-not a cat." It spoke, and again he was surprised to hear a feminine tone. Even throughout all his years in Hell and on this Earth he'd never heard nor seen a creature like this. It only made him curious. But it finally explained what he'd been hearing and sensing all day.

"Hm. Forgive my bluntness tiny Miss, but who are you?" His gloved hand outstretched and plucked the little woman out of the grass, completely aware but ignorant of the fear he was causing.

She let out a small scream as she was suddenly lifted by the collar of her dress and began to kick her legs in a poor attempt to struggle. But she hadn't eaten in some time besides the nibble of cake and she was terribly weak from lack of sleep and nutrition. "I-I'm a Borrower, n-now p-please release me!" She cried out, her emerald green eyes filling with frightened tears as she met the intimidating crimson colored ones she feared so much.

"Borrower?" The butler hummed in thought, taking in her skinny and weak looking form. Her cries go unheard as he rises to his feet with her dress still gripped between his thumb and forefinger. "What exactly is a...Borrower?" He was only growing more and more curious by the second.

Seeing that he was more curious than anything, the tiny woman used her hand to push her red hair out of her tear-filled eyes. "W-We borrow from h-humans. L-Living in the walls and u-under the floorboards." She whimpered out and watched as the curious gaze suddenly shifted into a hard and upset look.

"So you're the one that took a bite out of the Master's chocolate cake I made." He mumbled. He had only left the kitchen for a few minutes but when he returned there were very small nibbles out of the frosting and spongy center. "It had troubled me how small the bites were."

"I-I couldn't r-resist. P-Please, forgive me! I-I'll do anything!" She pleaded and buried her face in her hands, certain the scary looking butler was going to snap her delicate body in half like a twig. It was true. The scent, the look, she had to take a small bite.

"Anything?" His ruby gaze turned back to the tiny woman as his lips curled into a wide smirk. "Well. I suppose you could start by telling me if you have a name. As you could be staying with me for a while you tiny thief."

A chill ran down her spine as her breath hitched in her throat. She struggled to form the words but all she managed to do was choke out her name. "K-Kadence."

"My name is Sebastian Michaelis, the butler of the Phantomhive estate. And little Miss Kadence, I want you to understand that I do not abide well with thieves." Sebastian's lips remained a smirk as he lowered her into the pocket of his tailcoat. "Also, stay still. I'd rather you remain a secret from the others for now. They can be quite...excitable."

Kadence squirmed around to get comfortable in her new fabric prison, struggling to make sense of the whole thing. He seemed...gentle, but also very intimidating. She doesn't know whether to trust this strange butler or to fear him completely. But she does as told, staying still with her heart hammering in her chest.

She had known it was risky to follow him. And now she was caught, in a pocket, and awaiting her fate that was quite literally in the hands of a frightening butler.
