《Theirs》Chapter 34

...
I continued to follow Kayda, but when we were in the more open hallways, she suddenly shifted.
"Kayda!" I yelled and started running as fast as I could.
Luckily the hallways were still a bit narrow for her dragon form, so that slowed her down and she could only run. But she was still a lot faster now.
Where is she going so hurriedly?
She took a left turn and I did too. But I quickly stopped in my tracks when I saw where we were.
What the-
I was standing at the entrance of a giant cavelike hall which was filled, and I mean filled with dragons. Some dragons spared me a glance while others continued to mind their own business.
What is this place?
I quickly spotted Kayda in one of the dragon nests. I slowly approached her, being extremely cautious of other dragon which were here.
"Kay..." I said slowly once I was in front of her.
But she didn't react. She had a pained expression and was quietly growling. I hesitated to touch her because she looked like she was in pain. And you know what they say when an animal is in pain.
Don't touch.
I felt arms wrap around me and I immediately knew who it was. I placed my hands over his and gently rubbed them.
"What happened?" Tharion asked as he nuzzled his head on mine.
"I don't know. We were just sitting and talking when she suddenly cringed and ran out of the room. And while I was chasing after her, she suddenly shifted and came here." I answered as I let him cuddle me.
He hummed in approval and kissed my neck.
I was watching Draco and Blaze as they were talking to Kayda. She looked panicked and like she was in a lot of pain. Luckily, Matt was right next to her. I feel like she'd look a lot worse if he wasn't here.

"Calm down sis. You'll be okay. It's gonna be over before you know it." Blaze said in a soothing voice as he and Draco gently rubbed Kayda's belly.
Matt was whispering something in her ear, which visibly relaxed her.
"Why are they-"
"Just watch." Tharion said with a smile.
Then an ear-piercing roar left Kayda's mouth, but Tharion was quick to cover my ears. It lasted for a few seconds and then everything went quiet. I looked at Tharion with wide eyes.
"What the fuck was that?!" I whisper-yelled in astonishment.
Since his hands were still over my ears, he just turned my head toward Kayda. And then I saw it.
"Oh... My... God..." I said flabbergasted.
Am I seeing this right?!
"You did great little sis." Draco complimented Kayda, which she returned with a grumble.
Matt slowly peaked his head from the other side and you could literally see hearts in his eyes.
"Our baby is in there?" He asked excitedly and ran toward a very large egg which was next to Kayda.
It was about 15 inches tall. Matt carefully took it in his hands and anyone could tell that he was currently having a cuteness overload. I saw Kayda closing her eyes and falling asleep.
"You can go there now." Tharion said and unwrapped his arms from me.
I immediately ran toward the egg.
Oh my God... It's beautiful...

Matt sat next to Kayda and pressed his back on her belly.
"Our baby..." He mumbled happily and gently hugged the egg.
I went to Tharion, Draco and Blaze and left Matt with Kayda and his soon-to-be child. As I was approaching them, I noticed they had weird expressions.
"What's wrong?" I asked once I was in front of them.

"We're just a bit confused." Blaze answered.
"Why?" I asked in confusion.
"Well, after mating, it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for a female dragon to lay eggs." Tharion started explaining.
"And it's extremely rare for them to lay eggs after 4 weeks. It's usually 5 to 6." Draco added.
"But Kayda laid an egg after only 3 weeks." Blaze said.
"Not to mention the size of that egg. It's slightly bigger than an average dragon egg." Draco added.
"It probably has something to do with Matthew being a human, but we'll bring our doctor later to check up on her." Tharion said.
As I was slowly processing this information, something came to my mind.
"Lyla won't give birth to an egg right?" I asked worriedly.
I don't think something like that is even possible. The egg is huge. She can literally die.
Blaze chuckled.
"Don't worry. She did an ultrasound this morning and we could clearly see that our baby was shaped like a human baby." He explained and I breathed out a sigh of relief.
"But how did Kayda not know she was carrying an egg?" I asked in confusion, because she looked normal all the time.
"She probably didn't shift even once ever since she mated with Matthew. If she did she'd notice it immediately." Tharion answered.
Oh.
I looked at Matt and noticed Kayda was slowly waking up. Then she saw Matt holding the egg and rubbed her head on his arm. They looked so cute just sitting like that and admiring their baby. I can't wait to see it.
"When is the baby going to hatch?" I asked excitedly.
"In about 80 days." Draco answered.
"80 days?! So long?!" I said in surprise, which made all three of them chuckle.
"It's normal. Sometimes it takes longer, but usually it's about 80 days." Blaze added.
"Wow..." I said in amazement as I continue to watch the couple in front of us.
Then I sneakily looked at Tharion and Draco and imagined what would it be like if something like this happened to us.
That would be very interesting...
