《His Solace (Book 3) On Hold》Chapter Twenty - Six

Every time that I visited Lee's apartment, I couldn't help but feel like it was a privilege. Lee didn't seem like the type to have people over at his place just for the heck of it, but then again, I was still learning more and more about him every time we spent time together. He was no longer the puzzle that I had been trying to piece together in the beginning..he was more like a Rubik's cube that constantly kept shifting and changing every time I thought I knew what type of person he was.
Although, that didn't mean that it was a bad thing, it just meant that I hadn't known as much as I thought I had known about his character from watching him on the tv.
I stood against the kitchen's doorframe, watching as Lee continued to stir some soup in one of the large, gray pots sitting on the stove. "You really didn't have to cook for me." I told him, feeling bad that he was going through so much trouble to fix me a meal and I was just sitting around watching, "I can help you if you want." I offered for the third time that night.
Lee shook his head at me again like he had done the last two times I had offered to help him cook. "No, you're my guest. Go back to the living room and relax and i'll come and get you when everything is ready." He had repeated.
"Lee." I protested.
He held up a finger in my direction as if he was ending the discussion once and for all. "Nope." he said with finality.
I gave up, knowing that I wouldn't be changing his mind as I decided to go back to the living room, only this time I didn't sit back down on the couch, I walked over to the bookshelf standing by his front door. I glanced over it, pausing as my eyes came across a few picture frames. I grabbed the first picture frame that I had saw and held it up. It was a picture of Lee dressed in a black tuxedo with a woman in a bright yellow dress with red flowers in her hands. Her skin was pale, paler than Lee's if that was possible. Her hair was midnight black and was pulled back into a side ponytail. She and Lee stood together, Lee's arm wrapped around her waist as he smiled widely, while the woman held a sour look on her face as she stared back into the camera. She was beautiful, I thought as I placed the photo back onto the shelf and let my eyes wonder, scanning the books that were stacked neatly against one another. I randomly grabbed one of the thick books, opening it up before closing it and reaching for another one. I opened it, frowning as I placed it back. Just as I was getting ready to reach for a third one, Lee's voice cut me off.

"If you're wondering, they're all written in Chinese." Lee's amused voice called from behind me as he stood in the entrance of the living room.
I turned to him sheepishly, feeling like a child caught stealing. "Sorry that I went through your things."
Lee didn't say anything as he walked over to me, leaning his head over my shoulder as he smiled. "It's fine. I've been watching you for awhile trying to see what you were going to get into next." He said, grinning when he saw how embarrassed I had become. He reached for the picture frame I was holding earlier and pointed to the woman in the photo. "This is my cousin, Shi. The one I was telling you about the other day. We took this picture a couple of months ago at Thomas's wedding. She was still mad that she had caught the bouquet of flowers that Natalie had thrown. She has this thing about not wanting nor needing a man, so when she caught the flowers I had teased her all day about it up until this picture," He said, directing his eyes to me, "If you were curious." He added, obviously enjoying the fact that he had caught me snooping around.
"You're enjoying this too much," I turned to him, trying to change the subject. "Is the food ready?" Lee placed the photo back onto the shelf.
"As a matter of fact, it is." He took my hand in his as if it was the most normal thing, while I was still trying to get used to it.
He led me to the kitchen and pulled a chair out for me at the table. I sat down and watched as he walked over to the cabinet and grabbed two glasses before placing them down on the table and filling them both up with wine. After he was done, he took a seat at the table across from me and motioned to the food in front of us.
"I hope my food lives up to your expectations. I'm really more of a baker than a cook if i'm being honest." He said.
I laughed. "I'm sure tacos and soup won't kill me."
"You promise?" Lee asked cheekily.
I took a bite of the taco. "I'm still alive so I think you did an okay job." I joked back.
Lee wiped his head as if he were wiping sweat away. "Thank goodness, I'm glad you like it. I was a little concerned about leaving some of the meat pink on the inside, but i'm glad that I did it." He said in all seriousness.

"Wait, what?" I shrieked.
Lee laughed loudly, "I'm just kidding. I cooked the meat throughly, I promise."
I gave him a look. "I didn't think you were much of a prankster."
Lee was eating some of his soup when he looked up at me. "Well, that's unfortunate. Hopefully we can change your way of thinking in the future."
I took another bite of my taco. "So i've been meaning to ask you, how long are you and the band staying in town? I know you just had a concert last month because I was there, so are you guys on break now?"
Lee paused as he ate. "I rather not talk about it." He said evenly, going back to eating.
I frowned. "Why not? Is everything okay?"
Lee glanced up at me. "Everything's fine, I just don't want to think about having to pack up and be back on road for another three months." he drunk some of his wine, "plus, why would I want to think about leaving when it'll only remind me of how much time I have left to spend with you?"
"So you're leaving soon?" I said after a moment.
He sighed. "Yeah." he said glancing over at me. "The reason i've been so tired lately is because we've been practicing pretty much everyday to make sure that all of the music sounds right. This is technically our break, but it isn't that long either."
"How long?" I asked, not really knowing what I had expected to hear.
"About two weeks."
I stared at him, suddenly losing my appetite. "You didn't think that would be something to tell me?" I asked.
"Simone," he said when he saw me pushing myself up from my chair.
"I'm going to go home. I need to clear my head." I said, getting up from the table when Lee quickly made his way over to me, wrapping me in his arms.
"Simone," he said again, this time softly. I could feel his even breathing as my back pressed against his chest. "I was going to tell you. I was just waiting for the right time."
I swallowed hardly. "And when was that going to be? Before or after you filled my head with hope of a relationship with you and then up and left, leaving me heartbroken."
He sighed. "Look at me."
"I don't want to."
Lee turned me around in his arms, forcing my head up to him. He stared down at me with those dark eyes of his. "Yes, I have to leave to go on tour for three months, but I never said that that meant that we would stop seeing one another." He replied, "Unless that's what you want. Is that what you want?" He asked, his voice faltering slightly, almost as if he was unsure of my response.
I let out a sigh. "No, it isn't what I want." I admitted, "I just wish we had more time."
"I know, that's why i'm trying to spend time with you now. Even when I leave to go on tour I'll keep in touch, and if you want I can get you and Victoria tickets to come and see the band that way we won't be apart that long." He suggested.
"I think that'd be good." I said, my voice choking up with emotion. "We aren't even boyfriend and girlfriend yet and I'm acting like a clingy lunatic."
Lee brushed the side of my face gently. "Like I said yesterday night, I like you Simone, a lot, and i'll do everything that I can to make this work."
I breathed deeply. "I know, sorry that I overreacted."
He shook his head in understanding. "You didn't." He said, kissing my forehead. "Want to go and finish our food and watch a movie?" He asked, smiling, "and maybe talk about this whole boyfriend and girlfriend thing." He chuckled, pinching my nose.
I glanced up at him and instead of replying, I wrapped my arms around his back and hugged him tightly. "Yeah." I said into his shirt, my voice muffled by the fabric, "We can do that."
